It’s not the ABC’s fault that you look like idiots

It was inevitable that James Ashby’s One Nation would fall out with the ABC. James likes to very much control the questions that can be asked of his band of miscreants, and by who, and he likes the power to terminate the interview when he sees fit.

And is it any wonder. When One Nation Senators go off the leash, their lunacy is revealed for all to see.

Watching Malcolm Roberts dismiss Brian Cox and NASA evidence of climate change on Q&A was just a taste of things to come.

Pauline blames Barrie Cassidy for her self-destruction just before the WA election when she expressed her admiration for Putin and her opposition to vaccination.

And then there were those bastards at Four Corners who did a “stitch-up” by asking where James’, or is that Pauline’s, plane had come from.

Pauline’s response?

She would be talking about the allegations raised in the program “in my own time, when I think it is right. I will explain everything if there are questions to be answered. There is not really, but anyway, I will be making some comments with regards to that.”

This from the woman who sells herself as the honest politician. If it was just a witch hunt by the ABC then it should be easily cleared up.

And now we have Andrew Probyn “big-noting himself” by reporting that Hanson and Brian Burston, along with four other MPs, were to go on an ANZAC day junket to Afghanistan and Iraq. The trip was subsequently cancelled due to security concerns.

Malcolm Roberts went into full meltdown.

Pauline seems to think the ABC’s reporting of her upcoming trip would have put the soldiers that would have had to protect her at risk. It apparently had nothing to do with her inflammatory remarks about Islam not being a religion and her concerted and continuing campaign to ban the burqa, halal certification, Muslim immigration, the building of mosques and pretty much all things Islam.

I would hazard a guess that the ADF were extremely grateful to be able to cancel the trip considering the government has already warned about a possible ANZAC Day terrorist attack. As Crikey points out, while wondering how a small crossbench party can get two spots out of six delegates, “If you’re not in the Defence or Foreign Affairs portfolio, a trip to Afghanistan primarily consists of opportunities to don body armour and have your photo snapped with Australians troops.”

Brian Burston has demanded that funding be cut to the ABC or One Nation will block government legislation.

“I’ve contacted (Finance Minister) Mathias Cormann and said One Nation wants the ABC funding reduced by $600 million over the forward estimates,” Senator Burston told The Australian.

“If they’re not forthcoming in reducing funding to the ABC as part of their budget repair we’ll have to seriously consider what budget repair options (we support) that the Liberal Party puts forward. It’s about time we apply a little bit of pressure on the government to do something about the left-wing, Marxist ABC.”

Burston has been on a mission to destroy the ABC from the outset as shown by the following excerpt from his maiden speech:

“A further example of elite contempt for ordinary Australians is public broadcasting. The cultural Marxist takeover of the ABC began in the late 1960s when Allan Ashbolt stacked the current affairs department. Ashbolt introduced the radical critique of mainstream Australia that had become fashionable in university departments of humanities and social science. Almost 50 years later, there is not one conservative program or anchor on the ABC—not one, in a billion-dollar enterprise. The ABC’s oppositional stance to traditional Australia has grown to include the two other taxpayer-funded public broadcasters, the Special Broadcasting Service, SBS, whose explicitly ethnic mission is to cater to the identity and interests of the multicultural community, and most recently the National Indigenous Television network, NITV, created to represent the identity and interests of Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders. For budgetary reasons, NITV is now within the SBS stable. All three broadcasters are biased against mainstream Australia. They distort Australian political culture and support aggressive political multiculturalism. The systemic bias of public broadcasting is one of the clearest manifestations of a hostile cultural establishment. This bias has been known for decades but the conservative side of mainstream politics has failed to correct the situation. The time for complaint and diagnosis is over. It is time for the nation to break the bias of public broadcasting before that bias breaks the nation.

How might this be done? The main proposals have been to defund and privatise the ABC. But the country needs public broadcasters. Despite or perhaps because of their biases, the ABC, SBS and NITV have constituents who benefit from their services. It would be sad to throw the babies out with the bathwater. Might not balance be achieved between channels? A fair balance might be struck by leaving the minority ethnic channels intact while transferring funding from the ABC to establish a new channel that might be called the Patriotic Broadcasting Corporation, whose explicit mission would be to represent the identity and interests of mainstream Australia. It would present news and current affairs from the perspective of the historic Australian nation. Stripped of its mainstream content, the remaining ABC structure would receive funding commensurate with the size of its inner city, Greens-voting constituency. Australia needs more diverse public broadcasting in keeping with the growing diversity of the population.”

Just to be clear here, in the lower house, One Nation received 1.3% of the primary vote and the Greens received 10.2%. In the Senate, One Nation received 4.3% of the vote and the Greens got 8.7%.

One Nation blames journalists for trying to “get Pauline Hanson’s scalp”. What they fail to see is that they are the architects of their own demise by the sheer idiocy that spews forth every time they open their mouths.

Hanson is impliedly saying here that politicians should be unaccountable. She just doesn’t want to be accountable. She just wants the right to deceive the electorate and cover things up. Politics in a democracy requires that politicians and public officials are accountable. Its been that way since the Magna Carta in1215. If she doesn’t want to be accountable then she should get out of politics or go live in a dictatorship.

Burston, in his maiden speech, also called for an investigation into the slush fund used to bring Pauline Hanson down the first time around saying:

“the Queensland state government refused to repay $500,000 in electoral funding for the 1997 state elections, despite her conviction being quashed. This could have bankrupted her.”

    in 1998-99 alone

Pauline Hanson’s One Nation Ltd Declared Total Receipts: $4,176,966.00

Pauline Hanson’s One Nation Trust Total Receipts: $2,432,937.00

    http://periodicdisclosures.aec.gov.au/AssociatedEntity.aspx?SubmissionId=1&ClientId=1106

Pauline Hanson’s One Nation Total Receipts: $17,989.41
Pauline Hanson’s One Nation – Queensland Total Receipts: $1,171,840.42
Pauline Hanson’s One Nation – South Australia Total Receipts: $113,205.63
Pauline Hanson’s One Nation – Victoria Total Receipts: $117,321.18
Pauline Hanson’s One Nation – Western Australia Total Receipts: $212,266.71

And those were just the entries I found in that one financial year – there could have been others as there are so many different entities.

I knew One Nation senators were nuts but this stuff from Kaye is mind boggling. Thanks Kaye.

Now that ABC has exposed One Nation’s “crimes and misdemeanours”, maybe they can start looking more closely at what the Libs are doing, or talking about what they are NOT doing…

Maybe also tell their interviewers to treat all politicians with courtesy, not just the Right-wingers…

  5. vivienne29

What state election in 1997 did One Nation stand for Kaye. I don’t think they existed then. Pauline was in parliament as a disendorsed Liberal.

  6. Kaye Lee

vivienne, I think Burston was talking about the 1998 Queensland election. Accuracy has never been their strong suit.

    As for Hanson, “She’s now contested state or federal elections in 1996, 1998, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2016.”

She must have made a fortune over the years.

Looking at the photo at the top of the article brings to mind a slightly paraphrased line from a 3 Stooges short, “Every time they think they weaken the nation.”

They have created a whole new level to the Princess and Prince Precious syndrome.

  8. vivienne29

Thanks Kaye. That’s what I figured – made a fortune all right and then some. She could have bought herself a plane years ago.

Their stupidity is simply breathtaking. If our country was full of sane people they’d surely receive zero votes at the next election.

But there are idiots everywhere, and One Nation is doing everything right to appeal to them.

The media is often even more powerful than the fiercest and deadliest of weapons. As for our ABC ,most that work there are from various RWNJs media co’s.

All credit to Michael Griffin ( Flinders Uni ) for this excellent work on the unhealthy welfare card…….
The Greedy Liberal National Party (‘LNP’) welfare card program is really a greedy LNP rort for the benefit of the Greedy Liberal and National Parties and their greedy members, donors and supporters.
Indue Pty. Ltd, the corporation awarded the contract to manage the welfare card program and to operate its underlying systems, is a corporation owned by Liberal and National Party members and that donates to the very greedy Liberal and National Parties surprise surprise.

A big thank you to our police who protect us all from the likes of one notion etal.

From wiki;….During the Second World War, the ABC continued to recruit staff, including a greater proportion of women to replace men who had joined the armed forces. The organisation established reporting and recording facilities in a number of overseas locations, including the Middle East, Greece and around the Asia-Pacific region.
An early challenge to its independence came in June, 1940 when wartime censorship was imposed, meaning that the Department of Information (headed by Sir Keith Murdoch) took control of the ABC’s 7 p.m. nightly national news bulletin.perhaps an other reason why the LNP love all things military.
This lasted until September, when control of the news was returned to the ABC after we listeners expressed a preference for independent unbiased news presented by our ABC.
During and after the war, the ABC was given statutory powers that reinforced its independence from the government and enhanced its news-gathering role. if our ABC is not Liberal party biased right now then I’m dreaming.

  14. Zathras

The typical Reich-wing reactionary response to any criticism or unwelcome query is to blame the messenger and try to silence them.
Trump has his “fake news” and “alternative facts” allegations but still depends on coverage to maintain his profile, no matter how strange it can be. Bad news has to come out so it can be pounced on and defended by his acolytes.

Perhaps the ABC should simply boycott any further mention of Hanson and her party or just not grant them interview time but that’s something the so-called “free-to-air” sector would do.

Someone should just tell her that aviation fuel is Halal – that should ground her for a start.

Oh good grief, that Burston is repellent. His ranting that the ABC has become infused with the views of those from universities is hilarious. It reminds me of that quote from that stupid pastor Ray Mummert, an Intelligent Design advocate who declared, “We’ve been attacked by the intelligent, educated segment of the culture.”

Burston, Roberts, and Hanson make the Three Stooges look like intellectuals.

  17. Athena

ON’s result in WA gives me hope that some supporters are now realising their support for Hanson was misplaced. I hope to see many more of her outspoken batshit crazy candidates. I think they will do more to hurt her than anyone else trying to instill some sense into her supporters.

  18. Terry2

The problem with Hanson’s call for a cut in ABC funding is that she has the support of the IPA, News Corporation and the right-wing of the government.

That is a problem for all of us not least the independence of the ABC.

  19. Kaye Lee

    Terry2,

People shouldn’t think ON are a spent force after the W.A. elections.
“One Nation got 4.9% but this figure alone is deceptive as it did not stand candidates in all lower house seats.
In the three Legislative Council (upper house) regions covering greater Perth, the party polled between 6.4% and 7.87%. In the three rural regions its vote was between 10.5% and 13.5%”

Pauline has been waiting for years for them to “see her too. Romper bomper stomper doo.”

it is a disgraceful demonstration of Australia’s completely f*cked up election rules that allow fools to gain powerful well remunerated high office in this country. Australia deserves such fools for being so lazy to allow these one notion effwits to rule over our great country.
No one to blame but the listless, self absorbed Australian citizens who actually allowed Hanson, roberts and Co. to rise to the very top of Australian politics by their complicity … ‘she’ll be right mate’

  25. Kaye Lee

It’s interesting to note that Pauline has co-operated in a documentary about her that is to air on SBS in July.

“In new doco Pauline Hanson: Please Explain!, the Queensland senator claims she and David Oldfield shared a motel tryst after meeting in a Canberra pub after her maiden speech in 1996.

“He just said his name was David, he wouldn’t tell me his last name for reasons who he worked for,” Hanson said. “He came over to the motel I was staying in, we had dinner and he stayed the night. He left the next morning.”

Say what? A total stranger rocks up to the pub and the newly elected MP sleeps with him that night?

    http://www.smh.com.au/entertainment/tv-and-radio/news-and-current-affairs/pauline-hanson-rehashes-claims-of-fanciful-affair-with-powerbroker-david-oldfield-20160721-gqaoog.html

Oldfield is consulting his lawyers but in the mean time had a few words to say about Pauline’s motivation and capability.

“She’s doing it for adulation, she’s doing it for a living, she’s doing it because she loves the attention,” he said.

Mr Oldfield warned that “unless One Nation can evolve beyond being a cult and a fan club”, the party wouldn’t be able to achieve any serious difference.

“Pauline quite simply on her own does not have the management or intellectual capacity to make any of these things work,” he said. “The last person who should be in charge of a political party and making serious change and difference to Australia is Pauline Hanson.”

Cannot account for the description of a wombat coming to mind when considering the Hanson/Oldfield trist :

    ‘Eats, Roots and Leaves’ !

  27. Kaye Lee

Mr Oldfield is denying the incident.

“I didn’t go to her hotel room that night. It’s a ridiculous assertion. What she’s suggesting there just didn’t happen.”

Oldfield said he bumped into Hanson at the Canberra pub, which is popular with politicians, late in the evening and scotched claims they had dinner at her motel.

“For crying out loud, to start with, this all happened at 11pm at night. How would I be going to her hotel room for dinner? It’s monstrously ridiculous.”

  28. Terry2

So, an unknown bloke made his way to Pauline’s bed – come the cold, pale light of dawn did she peer under the duvet at this opportunist and utter the now immortal words attributed to her ? :

    Please Explain !

  29. Egorgozlow

Sorry. It was a different ABC during WW2 as it was a different BBC during the Battle of Britain. The Greens under Bob Brown were a different organisation. Now they are SIMPLY RED and I don’t mean the NZ pop group. They would know about as much about saving our environment as a cane toad. That is my opinion for what it is worth.

  30. LOVO

Simply Red were an British band from Manchester….just sayin’ ?

Burston says the ABC has not one Conservative presenter. Patricia Karvelas on Radio National is a comservative, so is Chris Uhlmann. Meanwhile Julia Baird, sister of former NSW Liberal Premier Mike Baird and daughter of former Howard Govt Minister, Bruce Baird, hosts the Drum. Or did the last time I watched it, which was a few months ago.

  32. Kaye Lee

Not to mention the IPA’s Tom Switzer and former Liberal Minister Amanda Vanstone.

  33. Zathras

Ex Liberal Senator Amanda Vanstone still hosts Counterpoint on Radio National. Now there’s a radio show with a definite bias toward Conservatism with its choice of guests and slanted commentary.

They tried a radio programme with avowed right winger hosts some time ago but it was dropped because of extremely poor ratings.
That suggests that the audience has a particular bias or that few were interested in what they had to say.

Shooting the messenger is a typical reaction to criticism or unwanted scrutiny from the Right, whether it’s alleged bias or “fake news”.

  34. Matters Not

Look at some of the appointments to the ABC Board and Senior Management of recent times.

Donald McDonald – Liberal Party member and long-time friend of the Howard Family.

Michael Kroger – Liberal party powerbroker and former president of the Victorian Liberal party. Member of the right-wing think tank the Institute of Public Affairs (“Ding!”)

Judith Sloan – Right-wing labour market economist, News Ltd Columnist and outspoken critic of the ABC. Associated with right-wing think tanks the Centre for Independent Studies, the HR Nichols Society and the IPA (“Ding, Ding!”)

Ross McLean – Former Liberal party MP for Perth.

Leith Boully – Member of the Murray-Darling CAC with close ties to the Liberal party. Former member of the NT Young Country Liberal Party.

Maurice Newman – Close friend and confidant of John Howard and founder of the Centre for Independent Studies, a right-wing think tank identical to the IPA (“Ding, Ding, Ding!”)

Janet Albrechtson – Right-wing columnist for News Ltd. Associated with the CIS and IPA (“Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding!”)

Ron Brunton – Former right-wing columnist for News Ltd. Climate change skeptic, critic of the stolen generations report and Director of Indigenous Affairs at the IPA (“Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding!”)

Steven Skala – Former director of the CIS (“Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding!”)

Keith Windschuttle – Right-wing historian. Outspoken critic of the ABC and regular keynote speaker for the CIS and IPA (“Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding!”)

Peter Hurley: President of the SA Hotels Association and major donor to the Liberal party and right-wing think tanks…oh bugger it (“Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding!”)

Jonathan Shier: Guess who called for this guy’s appointment. (“Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding!”)

Mark Scott: Former staffer to NSW Liberal minister Terry Metherell

The there’s Michele Guthrie and too many lesser appointees to mention.

  35. Miriam English

Yes, Matters Not, and yet there’s still enough intelligent, thinking, compassionate people in the ABC that extremists continue to rant about it. They intend to completely wreck the ABC so that when hardly anybody is left in the audience they’ll rationalise selling it off to Murdoch for a super low price. His takeover will then be almost complete with him in almost total control of the country — King Rupert.

Except I really don’t think it will get that far. Most people really don’t like the loony extremists. The only way extremists maintain power is by lies and distortion. It has to catch up with them.

  36. Kaye Lee

And don’t forget Vanessa Guthrie who didn’t even make it onto the recommendation list but got appointed anyway.

“The Turnbull government has overruled an independent selection panel to appoint the chairwoman of the Minerals Council to the ABC board.

In an interview with the Australian Financial Review last year, Dr Guthrie attacked social media activism against fossil fuels, taking aim at “inner-city smashed avocado eaters” for unfairly targeting coal and the minerals industry more broadly.”

    http://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/turnbull-government-ignores-advice-appoints-minerals-council-boss-vanessa-guthrie-to-abc-board-20170227-gum4hc.html
