Andrew Bolt: the globe-trotting weather presenter

Believe in climate change or not, there is no denying that the most vociferous and fanatical arguments come from those kitchen table scientists who do not believe we are on the eve of a catastrophic event. Their media bosses let them loose on anybody who even merely says “it’s hotter today than last week”.

Somebody must have said such a thing recently; enough to inspire Andrew Bolt to dedicate five of his last eight blog articles to attacking proponents of climate change.

His latest piece, “Almost too cold to type this message to a warmist” does nothing for his argument. Or his credibility for that matter.

Absent from his blog for a few days, we learn from Andrew that:

As it happens, I am in Los Angeles, freezing my backside off in an unusually cold spell.

He’d better prepare himself for some fairly nasty weather: I’ve just checked the forecast for Los Angeles for the rest of the week and they are expecting Arctic-lke temperatures of 25, 26, 27, 27 and 27 over the next five days. Those temperatures are in Celcius, mind you. Don’t go outside, Andrew. You’ll be snap frozen.

Andrew also tells us that Los Angeles has been experiencing record low temperatures yet assures us that:

I wouldn’t be so stupid or dishonest as to claim that weather in one part of the world says anything about the climate everywhere.

Before coming out with this gem:

Fact: to measure what we call “global warming” we need global records, not anecdotes about temperatures in Australia or California. And what those global records tell us is that the rise in temperature paused 16 years ago . . . The world is not warming as was predicted. And gloating over some bushfires in Australia does not change that central truth. Indeed, it strikes me as dishonest.

(Now might be a good time to read Bolt’s short article in its entirety before continuing here).

While Andrew is sitting in front of the open fire while Los Angeles shivers he might want to pick up the local Los Angeles Times and read this article: 2012 was among the 10 hottest years on record globally. Here’s what it says:

The average global temperature in 2012 was among the 10 hottest since official record keeping began in 1880, with most of the world — from North America to far northeastern Asia — experiencing higher-than-usual temperatures, according to related reports issued Tuesday by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

Last year’s average global temperature was about 58.3 degrees Fahrenheit, or about 1.0 degree Fahrenheit warmer than the mid-20th century baseline, NASA said, making it the ninth-warmest year on record. NOAA’s evaluation showed that 2012 was the 10th-warmest. The agencies’ reports are based on slightly different methodologies and data.

Still, the two agencies concurred that the data point to a planet that has grown warmer swiftly and looks to get even hotter in the near future. The reports noted that except for 1988, the nine warmest years in the 132-year record all have occurred since 2000. And 2012 was the 36th year in a row that the global average temperature was above the 20th century mean of 57 degrees Fahrenheit.

Now, Andrew, who is being dishonest?

No doubt Bolt is trying to profit from being the poster boy for skeptics. Ask yourself, is anybody who models themselves on Bill Oriely to get attention to be taken seriously? This man has far less credability as a skeptic than he has as jouno if that’s possible. He is an attention whore trying to build a brand off the gullible, pretty easy in America and getting easier in Australia.

This is a genuine question that i am having trouble with :
Can we just ignore Bolt? Do we have to argue aginst his ridiculous views? Am i letting the team down by staying away from his stuff and not commenting on his blogs and articles?
I totally agree with Ricky’s assessment, but is actively ‘fighting’ him a necessity or a waste of our precious time?

Andrew Bolt strikes again as the idiot that was…an idiot, a liar, a true propaganda merchant for the oilies. Andrew Bolt, you are a piece of excrement. You are on Alan Jones equivalency for integrity; ie none at all…

  4. Rex Alfie Lee

The reason Andrew Blot is the poster boy for the oilies, those anti-climate, skeptic-septics, is that Jones has no financial support anymore. Therefore, it’s Blot…

Migs, good article, shame the same can’t be said for the subject matter. 👿

“does nothing for his argument. Or his credibility for that matter.”
    What credibility? 😯

The Man(?) is totally dishonest and has very little credibility with anyone but his rusted on followers and right wing nut jobs.

salzagalsally, from what I have heard/read, and I can only speak from what I’ve read/heard of the complaints of others who have tried, putting forward a dissenting view on Bolts blog will not get published, as it will not pass moderation.

But even if it did get through, you would be wasting your time arguing with him, as he is payed to be a knob, and for good reason…. cos he IS a knob. 🙁

So the short answer is no, you are doing yourself a favour by steering clear and ignoring him altogether.
Just keep your facts handy in case someone that you come across tries to defend him, and then let them have it. 😀

    Cheers 😀

I think any time Bolt speaks about climate,he should be reminded of the time Prof Will Steffen (the Climate Commissioner )appeared on his show and easily discounted every argument/theory that Bolt put forward.-one of my favourite YouTubes.

  7. Ricky (Tory Torcher)

You may notice that despite numerous invitations Bolt will not debate anyone of note on the subject. Bolt has built his as a character assasin, he has been convicted for his vile brand of smear lies. Just typing this is giving him more oxegen than the co2 thief deserves

The scary thing is that some – particularly of the older generation – do listen to him, & do believe his lies. These people all vote, no matter how ignorant & stupid they are; or how utterly selfish they are. Comments I hear commonly from some in my parent’s generation are: “who cares, we’ll be dead by then anyway”. They’re more concerned about not being even 1c worse-off financially, than anything about the planet, or future generations. It’s tragic that this sort of attitude & willful blindness, is stealing from future generations, & will likely cause the extinction of much of the world’s wildlife. It is not just tragic; it’s a crime against the planet, & against future generations.

Bolts in California again, probably getting more Fox training or updating of TeaBag squawking points. I wonder if Piers went with him this time.

salzagalsally, I can verify what Truth seeker says. On no less than 10 occasions I have contributed comment refuting the lies of Bolt (and/or) his supporters. Not one comment was allowed. My sister (a died-in-the wool conservative) gets her supporting comments regulary allowed. His blog isn’t worth anything with such a bias being displayed. I no longer read it!

After Limited News launch the attack on somebody,
    =
no reply online, censored, no reply in the paper- a policy which says to do that, I think that is unethical and inappropriate if you have launched an attack on certain people`s pay and you refuse to run a right of reply by a player in that space. As a councillor, I thought it might change. When I started writing in as a councillor, no change, still censored.

You can bet on Bolt being supplemented financially to support a conservative stance. Remember “Cash for Comments”, well this isn’t any different. It’s done to keep the unkempt, mostly “good” Christian populace, (the twats that sit on one side of the parish bitching about that slut with the married man sitting on the other side) or those idiots who just don’t want to know because their level of endeavour doesn’t offer them enough neurons to understand what scientists have to say, at bay. Against all common understanding & obvious problems these idiots continue to listen to the likes of Jones & Bolt. The funniest thing about Jones is that he’s gay but stands as an anti-gay icon. What an incredulous hypocrite!

Bolt probably knows better but has sold his words in the same way that John Laws & Alan Jones sold theirs for the CBA & Telstra. His words are only worth money & he has no more integrity than Jones has…

  13. Crash Skeptic

Disagree with Bolt all you like, but suggesting he’s “pretending to be conservative for the money” is ludicrous. Bolt’s problem, of anything, is too much passion.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – far too many on the Left do not seem to be able to comprehend that someone can genuinely hold different values/opinions to them.

  14. 730reportland

Even those not on the (left or right) understand so-called `integrity` is expensive, and not really needed, when you have sponsors from big-coal and thousands of `useful-idiots` at your Limited-News blog.

While the ignorant fool is “freezing his backside off” in LA he ought look out the window – a wildfire is raging out of control at Colby, just 25 miles NE of LA:
” The powerful Santa Ana winds, coupled with California’s driest recorded year in 2013, are making it more difficult for the 700 firefighters currently deployed to keep the blaze under control…”

Further evidence that Bolt’s report back from LA is dishonest.
I sent a link to this article to my sister who lives in LA, and today (19/1/2014) got this reply:

“This guy didn’t make the news over here. He is out of his mind, saying it is so cold he can’t even type! We got one week of really cold weather back in December…[..]… but that is it! We had a record hot November……hottest in 30 years and December and Jan have been hotter than I can remember. Today is heading toward 90[F]……so much for his bullcrap! If he cares to listen to the news we have bushfires burning in many parts of L.A. and the Gov has declared drought conditions here and a cut back on water use for everyone. We had no winter this season so Andrew Bolt is totally wrong and misleading…..I suppose that what he is being paid to do!”

    The man’s a fraudulent misinformer.
    Enough said.
