“This Is All A Giant Push By (INSERT NAME) To Trick You Into (INSERT PARANOID FANTASY)

“Beer?”

“Thanks”

“So what you been up to this week?”

“I went on a march to support the No Campaign.”

“Really, why?”

“Look there’s no need to attack me just because I don’t support apartheid in Australia and I want to stop aboriginals being given my house.”

“I wasn’t attacking you, I just wondered why you were marching when you’ve never been political before.”

“Yeah, well, most political causes rely on you knowing what you’re talking about and some smart-arse will tie you up in knots, but this time it’s great because the whole case behind No is about knowing nothing. They said: “If you don’t know, vote No!” and I thought that sounds like me, so…”

“I just worry that some of the people who were telling us to us to “do our own research” during the pandemic are now telling us that we shouldn’t do any and just vote accordingly…”

“Look mate, there were a whole range of different people marching. Men, women, black, white, old, young. There were all sorts.”

“Nazis?”

“Yeah, like I said, there were all sorts.”

“It doesn’t worry you that you’re on the same side as the Nazis?”

“Why should it? I mean we didn’t invite them and if they choose to come and march with us, why can’t they. It’s a free country.”

“Yeah but doesn’t it worry you that you’re on the same side as them.”

“Nah, you got that wrong. It’s them who are on the same side as us. We don’t support their views, they just happen to support ours.”

“I don’t really see the difference.”

“Look, if someone’s walking down the road and you start going in the same direction, then you’re following them, but if you start walking before they do, then it’s them that’s following you…”

“Yeah but if you’re both going in the same direction, isn’t that a worry?”

“Nah, why should it be?”

“Well, if you don’t wonder why you’re both going to the same place… I mean, it’d worry me if I was in a group and I found that we were all going to line up to get tickets to a Rolf Harris tribute band…”

“Is there a Rolf Harris tribute band?”

“No I was just… Anyway, let’s change the subject. Did you hear that Tony Abbott’s been appointed to the News Corp board?”

“Yeah, great move. Whether you agree with him or not, he’s a man who always says what he thinks. He was one of the few leaders to tell us that this climate change stuff is all crap.”

“But he said he didn’t say that!”

“Well, he had to say that to get elected, didn’t he?”

“You just said that he was a man who always says what he thinks and now…”

“You can’t always say what you think when you’re in politics, but I always knew what he was thinking.”

“I never he knew when he was thinking.”

“Ha ha. No Tony was one of those who really stuck it to the inner-city elites who keep trying to tell us what to do.”

“How exactly?”

“Well, by becoming Prime Minister and pissing them all off by stopping all that politically correct, cancel culture nonsense.”

“And then the Liberal Party cancelled him, followed by his own electorate.”

“Yeah, that’s the trouble: people don’t know what’s good for them.”

“So they should be told what to do?”

“Yeah!”

“But not by inner city elites. I see.”

“What?”

“Never mind.”

“Look people get sick of being told what to do by people who think that they’re superior. Take Sam Newman. All he said was that people should boo the welcome to country and all these virtue signallers said that he was an old fart who’s had too much botox and it’s gone to his brain. I mean who are they to tell Sam what to do. He’s got as much right as anyone to come out and tell people to boo. That’s the trouble with the country today people who think that they’re always right and feel that they should be able to dictate to others and I don’t think that it should be allowed!”

“But you’re just contradicting yourself. It’s like all those people who complained that Russell Brand is innocent until proven guilty and that they know that all the people making accusations are part of some giant conspiracy.”

“Yeah, so?”

“Well, if Brand has the right to the presumption of innocence, don’t his accusers have the same right?”

“No!”

“Why not?”

“Because they’re probably guilty.”

“But… Never mind. Do you want another beer?”

“Nah, I better be getting back to work. I’ve got an opinion piece to write on how schools are dumbing down the curriculum and making our kids stupider.”

“Ah, are you for or against?”

“Against. How could anyone be in favour of people being dumber?”

“Yeah, I wonder that myself sometimes.”

Sadly Rossleigh, the school curricula are being dumbed down because the desk jockeys on state DoEs generally lack the necessary skills & abilities to improve and/or update content.

Back in the 60s as part of the Sumner Miller revision of curricula, the late Professor Alwyn Horadam (UNE) updated the NSW Mathematics syllabus to include matrices. The huge cost of training established teachers resulted in Matrices again being excluded from the curriculum.

Only LIARBRAL party & COALition supporters could support the ”No” case for the Voice. But then in New England the Tamworth NSW ladies believe that an adulterous, alcoholic, misogynist grifter representative of the NOtional$ best represent as their personal aspirations.

    Brilliant !

I haven’t been following the Voice, the wife prefers the Masked Singer so we’ve been watching that.

    Brilliant! Accurate! Disheartening.

The real question that NO voters should be asking is
How wil the YES vote winning change the lives of non-indigenous people?
    Simple answer is it won’t.

  5. Fred

LOL – spot on (unfortunately). I’m constantly amazed by the lies and stupidity of the NO campaign, but they seem to appeal to a lot of ill-informed people. JP is trying to convince us that the ATSI cohort is doing fine with water and food.

When it comes to indigenous “opportunity”, if you’ve ever been though a remote community you will know that “water” tastes differently to that of cities and nobody is going to build a new “silicon valley” out there, even though it feels hot enough to melt sand when you step out of the shade.

Why are we being asked to change the Constitution to recognise Aboriginals & Torres Strait Islanders as the first peoples of Australia? What has that got to do with with with giving them a voice to parliament?

If the constitution is changed to recognise an exclusive section of the population as the first peoples of Australia what will that make everybody else? Are they people who will not have the right to a voice to parliament unless they endure likewise such a ridiculous and deceitful referendum because they are obliged to by constitutional precedent?

According to well informed genetic science, we are all descended from the same ancestors. This is due to a time when our species was reduced to a few thousand people with a considerably limited gene pool. We are now what? Nine billion? Back then with such a small population there simply weren’t enough ancestors to go round to produce unrelated offspring today. What this means is that it is a mathematical certainty that we are all related by descent to whoever it was who became the first Peoples of Australia no matter where or when we too came to Australia. If one section of our society is recognised as the first peoples of Australia, then we must all be recognised as the first peoples of Australia. The constitutional change will only recognise Torres Strait Islanders and Aboriginals as the first peoples of Australia, even though the people asking for a voice are about 60,000 years too late to actually claim that status. We are not being asked to recognise subsequent peoples of Australia. Apparently they do not signify. They are not worthy of recognition. The future will notice that.

It is an odd request that is being presented to us because we don’t have to recognise ATSIs as the first peoples in order to give them a voice. Voting yes or no in this referendum will now create a barrier to establishing a voice to parliament that did not exist before Albanese created this situation by conditionalising the voice on constitutional recognition. This aspect of the situation is being widely ignored as we are repeated told that the referendum is just about the voice and nothing else. It isn’t, we are being asked to change the constitution to formally create an exclusive class of people. The first peoples of Australia. How does that distinction effect the rest of us? How does it unite us and bring us together, if some are first and the rest are what? Last? We ignore genetic science which tells us we are already united in our genes, and which could eventually rid us of the delusion of racism and we opt instead for exclusive social rights based upon birth – the very essence of racism, which has as much scientific validity as astrology.

Rossleigh, brilliant, sad but real and humorous gave me an arvo chuckle.

    BS, thanks, but no thanks.

I thought it was a John Clarke Bryan Dawe script for a moment, rossleigh. I can just see them saying it.. :)))

“If the constitution is changed to recognise an exclusive section of the population as the first peoples of Australia what will that make everybody else?”

Bloody blow-ins. Relative latecomers. Usurpers. Which. We. Are.
You are sounding more and more stridently unhinged as this goes on.

  10. Terence Mills

An American friend catching up on our referendum asked the same question about the reason to include Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in the Australian Constitution.

I explained that they were the first peoples to occupy this continent and the Islands.

He responded ‘was it a race ?’

  11. Brad

leefe, that seems to be a rather jaundiced view of 97% of people living in Aust.
Blow-ins, keep moving on; usurpers, thieves by another name; latecomers, your opinion doesn’t count.
Do you think everyone other than the 3% of people who identify as FN people should pack up and leave?
Or maybe 97% just kowtow to everything the legacy media is pushing without question, just say yes to everything?
These days I can’t turn a blind eye to the manipulation of politicians and their propaganda unit. They stink.
Terence, good question, is it a race?
