THE CLIMATE COUNCIL celebrates today’s announcement that the Future Made In Australia Act is soon to roll off the Federal Government’s policy production line.
Climate Council CEO Amanda McKenzie said: “This is exactly the sort of leadership Australia needs to tackle climate pollution, generate clean jobs, and ensure a brighter future for our kids. In the US we’ve seen similar policies dramatically ramp up investment and create tens of thousands of new jobs. As one of the sunniest and windiest countries in the world, this is a huge opportunity for Australia.
“The Act could be a game-changer that facilitates immediate investment to match the global clean energy shift, supercharge new industries, and cement Australia’s advantage in clean energy.
“Diversifying into sectors like clean manufacturing and critical minerals is essential. Developing these sectors will not only boost our economy but also help us slash climate pollution.”
Climate Council senior researcher Dr Wesley Morgan said: “The world is changing fast with a big shift to clean energy industries, and Australia needs to act quickly to seize our advantage. Change is coming no matter what, so holding onto coal and gas exports is like clutching our Kodak cameras as the rest of the world goes digital.
“Globally, the US’ stimulus for clean energy industries is pulling in enormous investment and reshaping energy supply chains. Making smart investments of our own can attract capital and more bright ideas to Australia as well, putting us at the heart of these new global energy and industry partnerships.
“With the right policy settings, the Future Made In Australia Act can unlock huge economic benefits – in new industries, more jobs and a safer climate future for every community. The Federal Government is making a smart choice by prioritising clean manufacturing.”

How many months has Labor been in govt now?
Maybe they finally got the message. Labor voters want Labor govts to enact Labor policies.
In rough times, war and depression, most people stuck together, collaborated, got some result, because equal sacrifice and risk created a rough fellowship anyway, We need a world attitude to fair, even, comprehensible, positive “sacrifice” to achieve results in climate matters, peace endeavours, social cohesion and improvement and, we are NOT doing well.., so what about more noise to achieve some positive progress, even a little…?? (How about a committee of king Chuckles, the pope(s), Boris wanko, Trump, Putin, Mad Morrison, The UNO’s court jester, (too late for sensible Grouch Marx).
All well and good, and inspirational, but It’s a fine line to walk. Like most such things, the devil’s in the detail.
Given the propensity of states to keep secrets, and the fact that Oz has a comparatively high cost labour force in short supply, and a not very advanced robotics industry, how are we going to determine competitive advantage? By having a pow-wow with our competitors? Or maybe more like a Marbles-swap Treaty between marbles players?
And I’m not really sure what the ‘Made in Australia’ part of the ‘Future Made in Australia Act’ means.
Given we certainly need a major injection of private investment capital to achieve our renewables, renewables infrastructure and industries rejigging objectives, and we need to hurry up about it – the return on investment should be pretty well assured. But govt incentivized private investment into this ‘Made in Australia’ bizzo seems a tad opaque, and concurrent with the ‘poles & wires’ bizzo seems a big ask and perhaps unwieldly to manage given the known unknowns.
Read Albanese’s Queensland Media Club speech – sounded like a pre-Queensland election pump-up speech, and listened to him on the ABC’s 7:30 Report – same thing de-QLDed ….. all long on inspiration and ambition, but short on substance.
I can’t help but wonder just how advanced the Govt is in drafting the bill. Certainly the devil will be in the detail. And I suspect they’ll all be hard at it, seeking to enact it as Albo’s coup de grâce for next year’s election.
Good-o, we’ll see.

You are right to question new ideas promoted by Government which has spent some two years already trying to tidy up the foolishness of the nine years or more of Liberal muddle.
Even today (14/4/2024) we have in the WEAustralian Graham Lloyd questioning what the “Future made in Australia” is about. His piece is named “Domestic dream all hot air without gas”.
He seems to be stuck with old Liberal favourites which flood through Murdoch scriblbings.
Consider some of these misunderstandings plaguing Murdoch’s obsessions: the idea of climate change lies; the China fears about our first trading partner: covid pandemic and the failure of vaccine; the wonder of coal and fossil fuels; the failure of renewable energy; economics of the robotics kind; love of Donald Trump; misunderstanding of nuclear power; rejection of electric vehicles; etc

Albo’s speech was certainly a frank sitrep and an inspirational call for shoulders to the wheel, and it will be interesting to see how the messages read into the up-coming budget.
It’s the type of oratory needed in the face of the short grabs of warring BS we’ve been dished up by the wrecking-ball LNP and their dupes in the msm. Along with their near criminal neglect, incompetence and swindling of the public purse whilst in government and the accompaniment of glib, hollow rhetoric, in their policy-free zone they achieved little but a crushing of public confidence and rise in cynicism, the tall-poppy syndrome and mistrust in MPs, government, parliaments and the democratic project as the country started sliding down the gurgler. All such as the state self-demolition wrought by the Tories in Britain and the GOP in America.
Your list of “Murdoch’s obsessions” is well on point, and ought be seen as the great diversion only for the purpose of sensation grist for the daily news mill, and the lining of Murdoch’s pockets via feckless advertisers. They’re all issues clung onto by stupid greedy old folk clinging to preposterous perfectionism and fearful of inevitable change, those with vested interest in the olde worlde status quo, and the hunger for fuel by young thuggish new-world fascists. They divert from facts such as the fossil fuel industry being on its last legs due to lack of viable resource, and energy and fresh water for processing. They ignore that the world is perishing in the fossil fuel based toxic chemical soup, and the devastation of anthropogenic climate change. The LNP and its flunkies don’t give a rat’s arse about such matters, those drongos and droogs are only interested in trying to maintain their sinecure in parliament and a place at the trough of industrial vandals.
Indeed, the tangible dog’s breakfast of the LNP legacy, as well as the damage to the national psyche are matters that Albo’s Labor have no choice but to overcome, in addition to stabilization via reform, and pushing ahead and beyond the global headwinds to prepare us and model our economy, industry and social cohesion for the changes rapidly underway.
It is very pleasing to recently hear that the fortunes of the Murdoch empire are diminishing. The next psycho babble to contend with is social media’s destructive mine-field elements peddling misinformation, disinformation, fear and warlike vengeance in the minds of the young and vulnerable, all via the same m.o. as Murdoch; sensation grist for the news mill, and the lining of pockets via feckless advertisers.
