Oxfam welcomes Prime Minister Albanese’s call for a “sustainable ceasefire” and Australian vote for immediate ceasefire at UNGA

Oxfam Australia Media Release

Oxfam Australia has welcomed a joint statement signed by Prime Minister Albanese and the Prime Ministers of New Zealand and Canada calling for “urgent international efforts towards a sustainable ceasefire”, as well as Australia’s vote in support of an immediate ceasefire at the UN General Assembly.

The PMs’ statement calls for Israel to respect international law and describes Israeli settlements and settler violence in the West Bank as “serious obstacles to a negotiated two-state solution”.

Oxfam Australia Chief Executive Lyn Morgain said the statement and the successful vote were important steps.

“It is clear that this carnage has gone on for far too long and, as the statement says, 18,000 lives is far too high a price to pay. Civilians, including children, should never be punished for crimes committed by their leaders.

“For months now, Australians in their many thousands have been taking to the streets, signing petitions and actively campaigning for our leaders and government to do what it can to put an end to this senseless humanitarian catastrophe.

“The Prime Minister must continue to do all in his power to ensure this ceasefire happens, and that these issues aren’t forgotten once the fighting ends, so Palestinians have a real chance to live in a sustainable peace in their own state.”

How long will it be before Der Spud works himself into frothing at the mouth fit over this: https://www.smh.com.au/politics/federal/albanese-calls-for-gaza-ceasefire-in-statement-with-nz-canadian-leaders-20231213-p5er29.html

The retaliation that is unfolding in Israel/Gaza can pretty much be laid at the feet of a nationalist fanatic who has to align himself with even more rabid right wing nationalist religious fanatics to stay in power.

This does not mean that the religious fanatics who created the situation should get off scot-free either. Thousands of deaths of their own people…do they really care?

The fact that it has taken ALL this time for the ALP to finally retaliate against the brutal war crimes perpetrated against non-Jewish Palestinians is NOT OK and way overdue! This type of right-wing cruelty – putting one’s head in the sand and cowardly looking the other way when war crimes are being committed – is expected from the callously inhumane political psychopaths and war mongers in the LNP, but NOT from a left-wing democratic socialist government like the ALP who (usually) care about other people and what is happening in our society and around the world! Dutton, of course, chooses to go against the tsunami of rage against what is happening in Israel and, as anticipated, remains fervently rigid in his deluded, irrational support for the murderous Israeli regime. Dutton’s total lack of concern for the trauma perpetrated on the non-Jewish population of Israel provides intelligent, caring Australians with yet ANOTHER reason – of the many reasons – WHY we need to keep this misguided and dangerously undemocratic right-wing extremist, a power-obsessed fascist, in Opposition INDEFINITELY.

The fact that the Jewish regime continues to bomb schools, bomb hospitals, shoot and cold-bloodedly murder countless THOUSANDS of unarmed fleeing non-Jewish Palestinians (many of them women and children) – and not all of them Muslims – makes the Jews and their regime a GOOD DEAL WORSE than anyone right now! The obnoxious level of their hypocrisy is breathtaking. What the despicable Israeli government is doing RIGHT NOW is a WAR CRIME that makes the Israeli regime EVERY BIT as heinous as Hitler’s fascists and, indeed, the Palestinian Militant Group = HAMAS whom the hypocritical Israeli regime are accusing as being terrorists! Wouldn’t you think the Jewish population, and their murderous government, would know better after experiencing the trauma, torture, illegal incarceration and cold-blooded murder at the hands of Hitler’s fascist? Clearly, none of them have learnt a bloody thing and are inflicting the same heinous treatment upon fleeing non-Jewish Palestinians (which also include Christians as well as Muslims)!

Any Jewish Israeli citizen who had ANY level of decency, humanity or insight should be SERIOUSLY ashamed of the unspeakably depraved, murderous WAR CRIMINALS in their Israeli regime right now! The Jewish people in Israel should study history and realise that Palestine does NOT belong to the Jews – it never did! Palestine was inhabited by a majority of Palestinian Muslims and a smaller minority of Christians and Jews for thousands of years who ALL managed to live in peace and harmony right up until the end of WW2. It was at this time the UN (with support from the USA and the UK) relocated countless thousands of Jews into Palestine because America, the UK and most of Europe didn’t want them. Ever since this short-sighted decision, the Israeli regime have done their best to traumatise and persecute the non-Jewish population of Israel which has achieved NOTHING except the destabilisation of the whole Middle Eastern area! Any sympathy the rest of the world had for the Jews and their murderous regime (up until this time) has been replaced by horror and disgust! Shame on the Israeli regime and shame on the wealthy influential American Jews (who reside in New York, Los Angeles and Washington DC) who openly support them!

To little to late. Albanese’s support for Zionist Israel, AUKUS , the fossil fuel industry , USA policies and the trashing of Australia’s sovereignty will see Albanese, and many other Labor politicians who hold onner city seats, lose their seats at the next electoon.
Albanese’s timidity will turn what shpuld be a 3 to 4 term Labor govetnment into, if Labor is lucky, a hung parliament at the next election..
Albanese is a shiver looking for a backbone.

About bloody time that Albanese grew some testicles, discovered a back-bone and stood up to his foreign masters of war.

@ ajogrady: Sadly, I think your analysis has much to commend it. Perhaps it is time to get out the dirt files and expose the corruption of COALition pollies in the independent media because the MSM and Murdoch Media Monopoly will only ignore it as being against their agenda of destroying the Australian way of life as we know it.

@ Kathryn: The situation in the Gaza Strip ”open” concentration camp based on WWII experiences in the Warsaw Ghetto is, as then, simply state sponsored GENOCIDE.

The ZION@AZI regime creating the Netanyahu Nakba has one primary aim – ”to drive all Palestinians into the sea”. Then during the post- genocide reconstruction likely funded by American & European banks, the new residential premises will become homes for fresh ZION@ZI COLONIAL SETTLERS wanting clear title to their premises without any fear of claims by the dispossessed and displaced Indigenous Palestinians.

Zionism is/was an ideology of the 1890s that promoted the ”escape” from a Europe that wanted them out, and was prepared to ignore the actions of the German government 1933-1945 to achieve that objective. The collusion of England was obtained when Balfour was conned by Rotheschild, the banker funding much of the English WWI war effort after 1916.

However, it is the Gaza Strip open concentration camp is quite blatant state sponsored GENOCIDE!!

And ”Yes” we have seen it all before in the Anglosphere of Americas, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.
