You just elected Trump. Now what?
By Sean Hurley
Here we are November 9th 2016, Trump is the big man on campus in the United States, the President Elect. Can you believe it? Well you better because it happened.
The political experts are all wondering how it happened, they will pour over polls and election data for weeks trying to figure out “what went wrong”. In a few weeks we will all be getting answers, being told about why the Latino vote, the woman vote, the youth vote, poor white American vote, the high school educated vote, went to Trump. There will be all kinds of reasons and excuses offered to us all. America’s “Brexit plus plus plus” as Trump put it, will be explained. It won’t make any difference though, Trump will still be the President Elect.
Trump Won for a Simple Reason
The reason is really very simple, it does not require weeks of polls or data crunching. The voting public did not like Hillary, very few people liked Hillary, in fact what is painfully clear is the majority liked her less than they liked Trump.
There were enough reasons not to like her, she kept a mail server at her home, breaking government policy and then dismissing it as nothing of concern. It was policy, for everyone, not just for people below Clinton, for everyone. If you broke a similar policy in the workplace you would probably be fired, not Hillary. Nope she walked away scot-free and the Clintonites rallied around her.
Then there were the emails, we were told there was nothing in them, then we were told it was the Russian government interfering. What was not a large part of the conversation was the content. They showed the DNC had not been impartial during the Democratic primary, they had actively worked with the media to frame messages to benefit Clinton. When Bernie brought the DNC working to sabotage his campaign to the fore he was dismissed, however the evidence is right there for everyone to see. Again the Clintonites dismissed this.
The secret speeches given to Wall Street. Wall Street. Remember 2008? Not a single banker went to jail, the banks got all your money and you got austerity. The Bankers got bonuses, you got job loses and mortgage foreclosures. There Hillary was, enjoying engagements with Wall Street, taking their money, making promises. The Clintonites did not mind, Occupy what?
The war, so much war, Hillary sound bites cheering for the death of Muammar Gaddafi, like human life meant nothing to her. Talking about how she made a mistake voting for the Iraq war, but being more than happy with the destabilization of Libya which gave ISIS (Al Qaeda) a place to operate.
Hillary is perceived as a liar, a war hawk and a Wall Street sycophant and that is exactly why the American public turned their back on her. Bernie would have beat Trump hands down, but we all let Hillary and the DNC screw him over. This was not a gender issue, it was a trust issue, it was a move against the status quo.
You had Your Chance to Stop Trump
Now it is already time for the “progressive” to block Trump. Really? He was elected to the highest office in the land winning the majority of electorates in the country, what right do the so called progressives think they have to “block him”? He won the popularity contest and as such deserves a fair shake. He worked his ass off to win and now has every right to prove himself. Maybe he will surprise many of us. He is not interested in more war, unlike Clinton. He is not beholden to Wall Street, unlike Clinton. Trump should get a fair shot to perform as the President without the “progressives” trying to sabotage him before he has even started. He worked for it and he won, hands down, it was not even close.
Besides the progressives had a chance to stop him, they could have campaigned for a better option, like Jill Stein. But they didn’t, they got on the USS Clinton and went down with the ship.
It is over, Trump won and Hillary lost, that is all. Protesting won’t change anything. If we have learned nothing else since Occupy we should have at least learned that. The elite, the government, they know exactly how to deal with protests, peaceful or violent. It is a waste of time. Just as any of us paying attention already know, thanks to the peace movement of the 60s that changing the system from within is a completely failed plan. It is 50 plus years on from then and here we are, at war with everyone losing our homes and futures to big business.
If the progressives of the world really want to change things then they will act in a way the system can’t cope with. They will work outside the political system, they will stop shopping and giving their little bit of money to the wealthy elite. I outline this in “The Elite Only Have the Power We Give Them”. So instead of spending the next four years coming up with new and interesting ways to waste your time trying to block a president, learn about the systemic failings of our social system and how we can end the entire system by creating something new.
If you are not ready to do that then please, stop calling yourself progressive. There is nothing progressive about tinkering around the edges of an archaic system trying to make superficial reforms when what we should be doing is abandoning the system all together. Oh and I am sorry to have to be the one to tell you this but, your “big plans” for reform that will make the system better, yeah that is tinkering. When you understand the scope and breadth of the many symptoms manifest by the fundamental problems with our social order, as we lay out in our free pdf “From the Ashes of Capitalism”, you will also understand why the tinkering will not achieve the outcomes some may expect them to.
Time to wake up, you just elected Trump as President of the most powerful country in the world.

Login here Register hereDidn’t you see the poll run in Australia on the US election day asking who we would vote for? Thousands responded and Australians voted for Trump too. Of course, our own ‘swamp’ united and attacked Pauline Hanson and Donald Trump continuously all day long. The people (the majority) hate the major parties and their filthy mouthpiece, the press. God bless Americans, they made a great choice. Just give us half a chance and we would do the same.
PPTYT – Have you considered that it is the ‘press’ – e.g Murdoch – who got Trump up in the first place?
There was irony galore during that campaign as Trumpenfuhrer dumped on a supposed corrupt media THROUGH THE MEDIA- a bit rich considering Drumpf was a ‘reality show star distributed through -drum roll – The MEDIA , and the hillbilly handfishers lapped it up. Too used to being spoon-fed drek through the box in the corner via the MEDIA ( there’s that nasty word again.), very few Americans were able to understand that Drumpf used the most hoary of chestnuts in politics – Divide and Conquer. It worked. Again. Through the media he dumped on as a major policy platform.
Does this not ring any alarm bells?
Sean Hurley,
yes America needed a wake-up call just as Australia does.
Sadly, I’m frightened of America’s choice for gender, racial and political reasons. I could be more specific but how could I prove my point on the shapeshifter Trump this early before he starts to prove his inadequacy?
Clinton was not the correct Other candidate either. She was too establishment except I WILL say, she could have been the 1st Madame President. Oh well, she was not the one honoured with the role after 240 years of US Democracy. Sad that.
Trump must walk the walk of his talk.
Sean, just a small note: the “A” in AIMN stands for Australian, not American.
Poo, the yanks made a terrible choice and will be spending the next 4 embarrassing years paying for it.
This was a good article from intro to conclusion. You, Mr Hurley have broken the stereotype. Which stereotype? This stereotype: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grD_IINiH9c
Poo, there is no way a person who manipulated audiences with racism, sexism, xenophobia, fear and hate can ever be called “great”.
You, Poo, are just easily duped. Most hilariously you think that’s a good thing. These arseholes like Hanson, Abbott, etc con you into acting against your best interests and even make you proud of it. What an audacious swindle.
Good article by Sean Hurley …
Could *Poo Poo To You Too * … please give a link or three, to the alleged ‘polls’ run in Australia on the U.S. election day ? … would be interested to see them.
You have drawn some conclusions that “thousands responded and Australians voted for Trump too”. Would appreciate some foundations / links on that as well. From where I sit, and I have had discussions with many, via social media, emails, and one on one – 99% are appalled at the outcome of this election – going way back when the merest thought of him presiding was a consideration. ” Arhh … he couldn’t win so lets’ not worry about it ” – and “God help us if ‘that’ bloke wins over there” … and many many other statements of revulsion at the thought, which has now become reality.
He appealed to the disenfranchised, the fearful – and spruiked nasties to the part of their community that thrives on that kind of thinking. And they soaked it all up.
Cannot believe Hanson or anything she utters. She does not command respect. … and she is rightly put in the same sentence as the Trump name.
I do believe however, that she is in the political game to garner whatever she can from her position, and sees many many $$$$ in the future for herself, from her time in politics, whichever way that might manifest itself. !!
Would suggest a change to a word or two in your closing statements. “God Help America” might be more appropriate, than God Bless America.
D’ya think – maybe ?
7.30 Report has been definitely got at. Oh! we had to have even steven time for Paul Keating and John Howard for the comments on the US Election. I’m sure the Liberals had time keepers standing by. Now I have to put up with Amanda Vanstone on Silvia’s Italian Table.
Well said Miriam ( today at 9.05 pm ).
It has indeed been an audacious swindle …+++ … over there – and most everywhere else in politics across the globe, in recent times.
True democracy was kissed goodbye quite a while back … and it will take many decades to restore it.
Meantime, we stare down the horrid barrel of fascism – both here ……. and in the former U.S. of A. Former ? because it is not united any more. Not by a long shot.
Sad beyond belief.
I have waited for the media in aust and usa to talk about the emails published by wikileaks.. the podesta emails and the dnc leaks. Astounding corruption revealed. Cronyism. Money laundering. Corrupt media. Corrupt clinton foundation. Corruption and payoffs to the DOJ investigating clinton.
Our media.. all of it including alternative media was silent. They all pushed the line trump is a racist moron.
Well if you do some independent digging you will find a very different story.
Hillary was so corrupt even progressives couldnt support her.
i am staunchly progressive but would have happily voted trump in the hope that he smashes this corrupt system to pieces and puts her in jail where she belongs.
If an author is going to promote a free PDF, it’s usually a good idea to at least provide a link:
I believe this is it: http://socialrebirth.org/Uploads/FromtheAshesofCapitalism.pdf
As to some of the bits about Trump, I sense some considerable naiveté -about which only time will tell.
Why do people like anne only make a comment when it is late at night and most people have gone to bed?
Miriam English:

Spot on – Many of the working class and unemployed are their own worst enemy. Trump is a lying establishment man: – A millionaire that hasn’t paid tax for years.A con man that has conned enough of the ignorant, gullible and desperate.
“He won the popularity contest” – WRONG. Clinton got more votes than Trump. Trump won the electoral college – A flawed system that overrides the popular vote no matter what.
So,the MAJORITY of voters DID NOT get what they wanted, and the MINORITY did – Flawed voting system American style.
Good luck with the continued protests in America….
anne
I totally agree with you except, the alternative media that I read routinely covers those topics.
Jennifer Meyer-Smith
It is 10:20 here, even earlier in W.A.
Cheers.
Saying they didn’t like Hilary doesn’t explain how she won the popular vote.
John Kelly:
Factoring in FOT (Fear* of Trump) partially explains it. I’ll post a bit more on that when the final numbers and more accurate figures of demographic breakdowns become avaliable.
* fear as used here also encompasses revulsion, breakdown of contemporary moral standards in rhetoric, and other intangibles like perceived emotional stability and so forth.
Yes Hilary won the popular vote and still missed the ‘prize’ As did a whole range of others in times gone by..
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_presidential_elections_where_winner_lost_popular_vote
Them’s the rules! She is just one among a number of others who have a ‘case’ of sorts. But seriously, it won’t wash.
That only slightly more that half of eligible voters exercised their right to vote (a right that many if not most hold in apparent low esteem) and less than half of those ‘exercises’ voted for Trump puts things in context. Those in the business of ‘generalisations’ can safely say: A minority of the US population elected to choose a different course in which to proceed..
Unfortunately, a pretty clueless assessment of why Trump was elected. Who is the author anyway?
Great comments, I enjoyed reading them.
Miriam I would hope the people of Australia would appreciate the implications of a Trump presidency on this country, as well as others. Should you not I suggest you spend some time looking into the current international agreements between the two countries.
Anne yes there was a media blackout globally on the leaked emails and the wonderful look over there tactic blaming Russia but never dealing with the content of the leaked emails. Sadly the majority of people still appear to find it too hard to do any looking on their own and expect to be spoon feed.
John the popular vote means nothing in the United Sates as they use the Electoral College system. Thus pointing out that she had the popular vote in meaningless. What is important however is that she lost the rust belt and Florida. If you want to compare the voting for popularity it is worth while to at least keep in mind the difference was in the area of 230,00 votes across almost 120 million, and i have been hearing that 10% of trump voters walked away from Hillary and voted Trump after the Sanders issue. Unsubstantiated as of yet but I will be interested to see if that was the case.
I may just add that I am not a Trump supporter anymore than I am a Hillary supporter. I don’t like our current political system as I think it is woefully ineffective when it comes to how we socially organise.
Jexpat I agree there appeared to be some issues with the links being added to the post there are a total of five missing, this was out of my control. You can find the article on the Social Rebirth website with all the links to supporting information, including the Podesta emails.
I believe the Comey dirty trick swung it.
Passed behaviour usually dictates future behaviour. We have the physiological knowledge to describe a Trump or an Abbott. Trump’s tenacity bulldoggednest and snide rudeness is breathtaking. He’s reminiscent of the mean and nasty cut through bullies I had the displeasure of meeting at secondary school. In fairness to them they were they were only 14 years old. Trump is 70.
Both of these men are bullies and thin skinned and both still behave like the aforementioned adolescent bullies from secondary school. Both men cannot change now it’s too late. Both will cause much destruction. People in the US are right to protest, but it is too late.
The Neocons are ideologically driven; just like seventh day Adventist or ISIS. The thing is. Are Australian’s going to sit back and allow these crazy ideologues to screw us over? Yes probably .We don’t like to rock the boat here in Australia. We prefer to take up the arse and then complain; rather than be proactive and do something. So if you don’t like a Pauline Hanson type. Get off your arse now and do something.
It amazes me that some people think voting for bizarre alternatives like Trump or Hanson actually achieves anything positive. In the USA millions of people voted for Trump because they didn’t want slow change — “business as normal”, they called it.
Well, they’re going to get rapid change now. They’ve put the giant oil companies in charge of the government, both the senate and the house of representatives, and probably the supreme court too.
Instead of corruption creeping in a rate that can be fought, they’ve handed everything over to the most corrupt people in society.
Miriam you can’t honestly think that only now the oil companies have gotten control of the American government. Corporate interests have had their hands all over the levers of power for a very long time.
Maybe now people will finally understand that for us to move in a new direction as a species will require us to abandon this antiquated outmoded model of politics and create something new. Time will tell.
Agree Miriam listen to an RN podcast show (The Money) “How Money Messes with You”
http://www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/themoney/
I thought that it was the banks that are the deep state and that corporations are their minions. The minions do what they are told and the banks will magically give them currency.
Cheers.
Sean, no, I didn’t say that. The oil companies have had their claws in government for a long time, both over here and over there. But people could fight against them. For example the disastrous Keystone XL pipeline was fought and defeated, but those days would appear to be over now. Oil companies now have complete control of the US government. Trump is apparently going to appoint Forrest Lucas, cofounder of Lucas Oil as Interior Secretary. And of course the Koch brothers are going to want to hand piles of money over to Trump. All the oil companies will be partying. It’s their time. Now they get to roll back all the restrictions. It’s a new day for pollution.
“I believe the Comey dirty trick swung it.” – He did.
FBI = Our AFP.
My bold out there prediction: IF Trump does NOT do keep up his end (I don’t think he will/can.), for the ultra right wing racist groups, that he was happy to accept their endorsement openly,he will be bumped off sometime late in 2018.
I don’t think people know how dark and mean spirited The Conservatives are.The Left must now become more militant.
That could be a good thing Miriam as environmentalist have been fundamentally useless at making any serious in roads. Perhaps it will spur us into more serious action. If we are lucky we will finally come to grips with the fact that our entire political institution is antiquated and outmoded. If we don’t then we will continue to suffer and doom our children and grandchildren futures. I hope to see a mass movement away from the political sphere and towards alternatives which will make it obsolete.
I think Roger Yates said it well
“Those voting for Hillary Clinton, defending Clinton and supporting Clinton without reading the information reported by WikiLeaks are intellectually no different than those who criticize climate science without ever having read the science. In short, if you defend Clinton and ignore WikiLeaks, you have something in common with Sarah Palin. Let that sink in for a moment. Finished processing that? Now process this — if the journalists responsible for reporting on Watergate were labeled “Russian sympathizers,” charged by the media as “attempting to influence an election,” and banned from travel or communication access, how would history judge the event? This is exactly what has happened to Julian Assange, who has done more for journalism than any of these corporate-owned, brand-named media products have done this election cycle. Either you support access to information or you have a problem with an informed public. Which side are you on?”
Roger Yates, Aurora
Sadly, if you wanted to avoid world war three, and total power and control of the population going to the big banks, and corporations, there was no one else to vote for than Trump. If you think that is an exageration … read wikileaks.
It was revealed in the Wikileaks docs that Bernie Sanders race was orchestrated, and the end date factored in before it even began. The clinton camp outraged that he broke their agreement and attacked her on issues he had agreed not to discuss. Further, they acknowledged they had leverage on him and someone should contact him to remind him of their agreement.
He was just a stooge to garner support from true progressives, raise a ton of cash, and bow out gracefully delivering a huge following of disappointed supporters and cash who they believed would be easy to manipulate and eventually with Bernie’s support agree to vote for clinton.
The problem was those who were well read, and sourced info from Wikileaks, and Project Veritas etc, knew she was corrupt and in no way progressive. They could not vote for her.
Most news sites censored all the details that came out about this, If you got your info from the MSM media, Hillary was the second coming here to save the world, and Trump was a racist misongyist who cheated on his taxes.
Read Wikileaks, the positions she held publicly are almost opposite of that she actually supported in private. She was actually pro fracking, pro TTP, very rascist, and was happy to accept millions of dollars in donations for the Clinton Foundation from Quatar and Saudi Arabia , where women are stoned to death and gay people are hung. She was not the person the media portrayed her to be. Much more will come out about how corrupt she actually is in the days to come.
Funnily enough, I believe Bernie would have easily won, he was also more anti establishment that trump but much more progressive.
Its a pity he was never actually in the race. They always planned for him to step down, and for her to rise to the position to which she believed, she was entitled.
In the end I think Trump got the vote because people wanted someone who was not Corrupt Hillary Clinton, who they believed was not bought. Someone they believed was not owned or indebted to large foreign governments and large corporations. Someone rightly or wrongly they hoped would actually do something for the American people.
Miriam
The party might already be over.
“So, when we consider that Exxon had to triple its capex spending to maintain production as well as increase dividend payouts to keep shareholders happy, the falling oil price is totally gutting the company from within.”
“For those who continue to be skeptics of the peak oil theory, YOU NEED TO WAKE UP AND LOOK AT THE DATA.”
“the Hills Group and Louis Arnoux forecast that within ten years, 75% of U.S. gas stations will be closed, and the oil industry as we know it, will have disintegrated.”
Happy___Annie
I agree.
Cheers.
Happy_Annie,
I have an open mind regarding Clinton but I have grave reservations about Trump who has stated he will demolish Obamacare and Climate Change is over-rated.
If Trump forces change and it is not for the better of the American people and the World, I hope he gets thrown out on his big, red boofhead!
Next is… TRUMP THE MOVIE!!!!!
See the Donald on previous business trips to Moscow.
See the Donald meet Russian hookers in his luxurious hotel rooms.
See the great footage from those itty bitty cameras in the ceiling.
Brought to you, produced and directed, by Vladimir Putin.
Unless we just see The Art of the Deal: Part 2
(boo, hiss).
You do your name proud, banjo!
Jennifer, I agree, that is the scary thing. Trump is the unknown wildcard. However, what was portrayed of him was quite manipulated.
Have a quick look at the latet interview with John Pilger…. he may allay some of your fears.
Oh, fun. First thing Trump did after putting on the crown was expunge any mention of climate change and LGBT rights from the government website.
At this point he’s in clear violation of USA law because he still is in receipt of money from overseas investments. He also needs to divest himself of his companies inside USA too. And there is mounting pressure to release his tax records, which he still hasn’t done.
The Republicans have already begun making sweeping changes, having begun to kill the affordable healthcare act (Obamacare) and trying to kill off the Ethics Committee (who ever needed more proof that they are unethical?). There was an immediate and strong backlash in republicans’ own communities about that latter move so they had to abandon it, for now.
By the way, OR Books http://www.orbooks.com/ is making the revolutionary handbook “Beautiful Trouble” available for free today only. They’re a USA company, so I’m not sure when the cutoff is. The book details the most effective ways to protest and force change.
