Why is Peter Dutton so frightened of nuclear detail?

Solutions for Climate Australia Media Release

Still missing from the Coalition’s nuclear fantasy – any plans on costs, reducing climate pollution or nuclear accidents

The public will have to keep waiting after Opposition Leader Peter Dutton failed to announce anticipated costings and other detail of the Liberal National Coalition’s nuclear proposal today.

Following Mr Dutton’s speech, Solutions for Climate Australia called on the Federal Liberal and National parties to step up and tell the public just how long, how expensive and how risky their pro-nuclear reactor policy is.

Solutions for Climate Australia senior campaigner Elly Baxter said:

“Today, Peter Dutton has again failed to give any detail on how he plans to establish nuclear reactors in Australia. Mr Dutton seems to be bug-out frightened to put forward any detail – what’s he got to hide?

“Australia’s coal plants are old and falling apart. Nuclear would never be delivered in time, whereas solar and wind already provide 40% of Australia’s electricity.

Solutions for Climate Australia director Dr Barry Traill said:

“Multiple credible estimates from industry experts show that even if, somehow, the nuclear reactors were built by 2040, they could only produce 4% of Australia’s total electricity needs.

“Why would we spend many billions on the most expensive and risky way of making electricity in Australia, to produce just 4% of the power we need?

“We call on the Coalition to have the guts to put out the details of what they are proposing.”

He knows Australians won’t press the nuclear dutton. ‘Just trust us!’ he says. A stooge for fossil fuel lobbyists, he continually spouts disingenuous crap.

    Donald Dutton- full of shit.

  3. Uncletimrob

Dutts must believe there are some extremely stupid people out there.

He can’t/won’t even deliver the goods for those that sympathise with his nuclear plans. Most sensible political parties would have at least attempted to provide “detail’ by now.

“If you don’t know – vote no” sounds very appropriate in this case.

  4. GL

Pathetic Dunce inflicts yet another malodorous calorie free brain fart about nuclear upon Australia.

  5. Andrew Smith

Maybe it’s simply evidence of our RW MSM, fossil fueled think tanks and influencrs who are still running protection for Dutton, the LNP and fossil fuels, by taking his talking points at face value, and being barely challenged.

Ditto Abbott’s gaslighting by claiming ‘climate science is crap’ and this ‘non expert’ view is still sustained in Oz…… or worse (according to a UK visitor) most Australians are glib or ignorant about climate science and global warming, too easy.

Peter Dutton’s ‘If you don’t know, vote no’ is now to become, If you don’t know, trust me.

This is Peter. Peter is a hypocrite.

Smelly brown trails flow over the Dutton shoulders and it isn’t brains or even thoughts.., from deficient dinosaurial dickhead Peter Duckwit-Futton we have an outflow of excremental pressure, and we all wanted policy!! Donor driven Dickhead Dutton…the right wing political perverts get a good run from poxy Merde Dog’s misfit scibblers, those turdy typists…

I don’t know why you’re worried about Dutton 🙏. …at the next election he’s gunna go the way of Howard and Abbott and Friedburger…. he’s gunna be so Teal’ed … (though Howard was ABC’d)
P.S. little Johnny losing to an ex ABC reporter still makes me laugh 😂

He’s frightened of being shown up even more as the easily purchased by big business, empty-headed and clueless fraud he has been all the way down the line and being held up to the ongoing and rightfully earned derision, scorn, and mockery he so richly deserves.

The reason why Dutton won’t come clean on costs and timing and other essential detail, which would allow proper analysis and scrutiny of his plan, is Britain’s Hinkley C nuclear generator in Somerset.

It is costing about three times its original budget. It was initially due to be operational in 2017 and to cost about $35 billion, but it is now not expected to open before 2031 and will cost about $90 billion.

Spud needs to understand that we are not stupid and if he wants us to consider his brainfart we need facts and figures, no more evasion.

He is treating the Australian public like a mushroom farm : keeping us in the dark and feeding us bullshit.

His thoughts and ideas are as prehistoric and useless as those of the bloated orange thing from across the pond. I guess chrome dome hopes there are enough stupid gullible Australians who will worship the shit dribbling down his chin just like the world’s most easily manipulated nation, The Divided States of tRumpland.

A snowflake’s chance as he struggles to get even his besties to support his sinecure.

There IS no “detail”. There IS no plan. There IS no policy. Deadeyes Pete is just following the Steve Bannon playbook: flood the zone with shit!!! And Albanese – jumping at shadows in his wild goose chase for non-existent “bipartisanship” – keeps falling for it!

  15. Bert

But Terry, he can show how good an economic manager he is by sacking the First Nations ambassador, save a salary and travel allowance, that will shave a few dollars to pay for a nuclear plant no one wants.

  16. New England Cocky

The famous admonishment ”If you don’t know vote NO!!” ringing in our ears every time Boofhead Duddo blows the nuclear trumpet for his US mates keen to cash in on the USUKA sub debacle.

Why do pro fossil fuels climate science deniers like nuclear so much? Because not fixing the climate problem can be blamed on climate activism, which has been dominated by environmentalists. Why is it up to environmentalist instead of actual governments? Because people like Dutton (and Albanese and pretty much ALL their predecessors) ducked and dodged the climate problem and handed the issue off to (anti-nuclear) environmentalists in “you care so much, you fix it” style. In order to NOT have to face up to it and deliver solutions.

Dutton is squeezing the last drops out of “but renewables don’t really work” and “nuclear is the only option that really works” and – most of all – “global warming is crap” before public opinion catches up with the facts in spite of Newscorp – that renewables really do work, much better and a lot cheaper than anyone predicted (and still getting better) and that nuclear is really hard and expensive and comes with problems only high handed anti-free market energy policy can overcome. And global warming is real and going to hit Australia ever harder in the face of more emissions than ever. That we are seeing actual progress – we might see emissions peak sometime soon – seems to be a spur to the Dutton’s to oppose harder and for the Albanese’s to ease up on climate policy ambitions.

The spectacle of climate concerned Australians rejecting nuclear and making pro fossil fuels, anti renewables political mileage out of it seems to be the point. Dutton and team have never shown any emissions reductions ambitions and even now nuclear isn’t for fixing emissions, it is for “saving the economy” aka fossil fuels from Renewable Energy and “green foolishness” aka climate science.
