The bystander
By Kerri Lynn
The bystander shot at the Trump rally was Corey Comperatore. From what we know:
“Corey Comperatore, 50, was a family man who loved to fish. He worked at a plastics manufacturing company, volunteered as a firefighter and went to church.”
What of the listed 5 character defining qualities of this poor man bears any vague resemblance or even similarity to the character of Donald Trump?
One has to assume the Trump MAGA followers see something in the orange man that supports their way of life and belief systems, and yet the two values systems could not be more polar. To me this defines the Trump/MAGA brigade as a cult. They believe him to be something he isn’t.
It is very sad that this man was killed while following a lying, cheating megalomaniac and felon, who screws money and support out of people to further his filthy rich lifestyle, but how on earth does any country draw back those gullible lost souls to reality?
1. Trump as a family man!? He told Ivana, when Don Jr was born that he didn’t want the baby named after him because “what if he turns out a loser?”
2. He lusts after his first daughter and seems to forget the second daughter. He sought time out of his court case to attend Barron’s graduation. And then didn’t.
3. Can anyone seriously envision Trump even eating fish, let alone catching one.
4. Manual labour is for losers in the Trump playbook as his treatment of the workers of Atlanta would attest.
5. Volunteer work means no income and as for running towards danger to help others!?
And we all know that Trump believes church to be a place that you stand still in front of and hold up a book for a press photo op.
Provided that place has been gutted by fire and you have never read the book you hold.
America has a lot of issues with its politics which stem from its self-image.
Trump seeks to rewrite that self-image as a nation of winning victims versus losing elites.
When realistically he is dividing the nation into gullible, blind faith followers and those who question or seek to find truth or are well educated to know the truth and whom Trump calls elites because they are smarter than him. Of course, the irony of Trump’s self-portrait is rarely missed by anyone who doesn’t wear a red cap.
This persistence to divide in order to conquer in a pressure cooker country with more guns than people and more people who have learned to handle a gun, through military service, than have an ongoing job is the powder keg into which Trump, like the little box with the lady with artificially red hair is a match waiting to be lit.

Login here Register hereHistory has galleries of gutless gross garbage goats, many Trumpian types. Unfortunately, we know so little of so many “ordinary” folk, who may have been trustworthy, loveable, industrious. Today we have bleating world leaders decrying violence as it closes in on them and their types, yet the biggies front huge arsenals and stocks, sell and give death implements out, contribute right now to the death and agony of women and children, and take, take.., not give. Scum, turds, oil, politicians, all seem to float…Surely the pruning with extreme prejudice of a large number of political parasites might have a chance of improving things.
Maybe we should wait for the dust to settle, but let’s give it a crack anyway….
The shooter (registered Republican), the security and local police were hopeless; apparently Trump does (free/cheaper) outdoor gigs because he has a trail of unpaid venues behind him, but outdoors far more difficult to secure at the best of times.
Maybe, like post debate, it may not move the poll dial much, while Trump, GOP and their media are desperate to try and pin on the Democrats for encouraging violence etc.; Trump’s own narrow MAGA base is not enough to win the election.
It’s a blip on a blob. Driven by magnates seeking only profit, and a feckless media meddling to create sensation, and a desperate depressed proletariate hoodwinked by Holywood’s exceptionalism, and the stupidity of loud-mouthed two-bit celebrities. Now beyond entertainment, lies and deception are blurs in the air they’re accustomed to.
That they put their hands on their hearts for the horrendous Star Spangled Banner, and their weird notion of perfection based on the fear of unknowable god(s), speaks loudly of their inducement to confusion. And now, more than ever to anger.
Guns and blood are inevitable. But not Trump.
So Don Jr was the perfect name for his child because that is exactly what his daddy has always been, a LOSER.
Sadly a large number of Yanks think win at any and all costs is a legitimate way for conducting business and they are so envious of the toilet-mouthed conman getting away with so much that they wish to emulate him. The ‘American way’ is the predominent cause of all the shit happening in their country. STOP THE GREED!!
Another accurate description of Trumpery leading the western world in the same manner as the democratically elected 1933 German government got itself into power ….. then betrayed the trust of the workers.
Anything backed by Murdoch Media Monopoly must be wrong by definition.
What choice do people like Corey Comperatore have, though. There’s the simplistic populism offered by Trump Republicans, vs the condescending technocracy of the Biden Democrats. Neither of which are anything but exasperatingly annoying to this little anarcho-communist.
But try to have a sensible discussion of why and how both our political as well as economic systems are operating way beyond their built-in design limits, and have done so for a long time. Since the late 60s, even. Not happening!
My day job is carpentry and joinery, and I keep meeting, and working side by side with people like Comperatore: nice, diligent, hard-working, and increasingly harried people who really have nowhere to turn. I know better than to offer high-falutin disseminations of Marxist critiques of capitalism and anarchist reviews of the flaws of the mechanics of contemporary preference aggregation (a.k.a. liberal democracy).
This, so I thought, is in the first instance the preserve of academia (I did grow up in a solid middle class academic family background). But for some strange set of reasons, members of academia and the international “intelligentsia” (for lack of a better term!) seem patently unable to get out of their own way.
Enter simpletons like Trump (or Hitler), and yes, they will act as focal point for large crowds of leaderless desperados.
I’ve said it before, and I repeat it again: stop treating Trump and operators like him as if they were smart, cunning and skilful operators who deviously manipulate the public discourse to advance their own venal ends.
They are not. “The System” is creating ever greater crowds of frustrated punters, and the Trumps of this world happen to be those who, for whatever particular constellation of contributing (stochastic) dynamics, rise to prominence from within those crowds, and excite their imaginations.
The proper point of attack is not Trump, and it is not even various reactionary CPACs and “think”tanks funded by the likes of the Koch brothers.
The proper point of attack is the discussion and presentation of viable alternatives to the contemporary political-financial-military-industrial complex that dominate every aspect of our lives – and regardless of whether it’s the Reps or Dems, or Liberal or Labor who temporarily occupy the figurehead positions of our “democratic” processes.
