Refugee Action Coalition Media Release
Immigration Minister Andrew Giles claimed that Labor reforms, “…will ensure that those found to be owed Australia’s protection will have access to quicker and fairer assessment of their claims, allowing them to rebuild their lives with certainty and stability,” and that Labor wants to “reform the migration system to prevent future exploitation.”
But since it was elected in May 2022, Labor has ignored the situation of the 10,000 asylum seekers processed under the flawed fast track refugee assessment of asylum seekers who have arrived by boat.
“Many of these asylum seekers do not even have the right to work or Medicare and are among the most vulnerable of all people on temporary visas,” said Ian Rintoul, spokesperson for the Refugee Action Coalition.
Currently there is a protest outside both Clare O’Neil’s electorate office in Melbourne and Anthony Albanese office in Sydney, while 22 women from Sri Lanka and Iran are walking form Melbourne to Canberra to raise awareness of the 10,000 on bridging visas or ceased visas many with no work or Medicare rights, or any right to study for them or their children. (Photos attached of protest outside Albanese electorate office Tuesday, 3 October.)
“We are demanding justice, protection, and certainty for all refugees, asylum-seekers, and their families. We believe that no one should be left behind, and that the rights of all refugees must be recognized and upheld. This includes study rights for their children and work rights for adults,” said one of the Tamil walkers, Geetha Ramachandran.
More protests are being planned. (Melbourne rally, Sunday 8 October,2pm State Library; Sydney Sunday 29 October, 2pm, Sydney Town Hall.)
Labor has recognised that fast track is fundamentally flawed but will do nothing to fix it, or provide a pathway to permanent visas for the fast track victims although they have been in Australia for 11 years and longer.
Labor’s announcement of “last in, first processed” can’t be an excuse to leave the 10,000 in limbo any longer. If Labor really wants to ‘reform the migration system to prevent future exploitation’, they can’t ignore the 10,000 victims of fast track. This is a backlog that can be easily, and should be immediately, fixed,” said Rintoul.

All down to the sheer incompetence of the previous government…’Debacle Dutton’,the Liar Morrison, the Mad Monk, and a myriad of other assorted bit players, including Brandis,Porkies Porter and the empire building snake, Pezzullo.Dutton’s lies are coming to finish off his woeful political career. The bloke never got past being a block headed, bigoted ,failed copper.Talk about delusions of grandeur. The clock is ticking.
Out of sight, out of mind?
Time for the Albanese Labor government to stop, cease & desist from this inhumane policy that destroys the lives & aspirations of legal refugees. It is time to bring all off-shore refugees to the Australian mainland and provide the necessary documentation to allow them to work, be educated and be successful.
Remember, there is presently an alleged shortage of labour in Australia while over 10,000 willing & able workers starve in anonymous frustration.
Perhaps there are too many city cellar dwellers ”advising” Albanese to continue the Pezzullo policies and Credlin practices for their own personal gains.
The numbers are astonishing. After 16 months of Albanese, we have 2.5M visas in the country, 850K “student” visas, and annual net migration has topped 450K, which smashes the previous Rudd record by 140K. Annual population growth has soared past 2% – that’s third world, not first world, policy.
If genuine refugees are not being processed, the fault lies with Albanese’s “Huge Australia” policy by now. Not Morrison, Dutton or Pezzullo.
Stable G, true. It must be obvious to all but sound sleepers that the agenda is an idiotic tweak of Trump’s meme ‘Make America Great Again, MAGA’, ie, ‘Make Australia Dysfunctional Again, MADA’.
By the time the next election comes around again there will be an extra x millions of people to house and service.
10,000 refugees are a blip the major parties are happy to ignore.
A country that is experiencing an influx of people of the current proportions is usually adjacent to a conflict zone.
Labor-LNP, thanks to them for creating a crisis in living conditions for new arrivals and many locals as well.
Labor-LNP, their lobbyists and puppet masters over at MSM-land must be chuffed.
Why do people continue to expect Labor-LNP to save the day? They are deliberately wrecking the fabric of society.
Little to nothing they say or do is in your best interest, unless perhaps you are a member of their club of parasites.

A few months ago, I asked Anthony Albanese (via the webform on pm.gov.au) to stop Services Australia abusing me. When Services Australia forced me into debts, I applied for an internal review. Instead of a formal review made by an authorised review officer (required by law), they sent me a review conducted by an anonymous delegate or officer, no phone number provided. Services Australia also keep sending me debt notices demanding rent assistance payments I was getting as component of my jobseeker allowance while paying private rent.
As there was no response from the PM’s office, I called them, They said that they won’t provide me with a reply, they sent my complaint to Amanda Rishworth and advised me to contact her office.
Does the PM’s office ever provide a formal response to reports of abuse / illegal debt schemes administered by Services Australia? Does the PM’s office ever follow up after they forward such reports to Services Australia?
