Good Cop/Bad cop

By Keith Antonysen

If I believed in conspiracy theories, I’d be believing that on climate change the National Party and Liberal Party are playing good cop/bad cop. The Nationals can be seen as the bad cops on the basis of a number of their politicians own shares in fossil fuel corporations, or they have received benefits from generous corporations; creating a conflict of interest. Also, the Nats will hardly countenance net zero in 2050. The Liberals appear to be doing all they can to produce a policy that will be accepted in Glasgow. But, in the background the LNP are trying to reduce the stringency of goals decided at Glasgow.

Those hyperlinks come from a leaked IPCC Report to be published early next year. Meaningful sentences from the leaked Report are – “Mitigation and development goals cannot be met through incremental change”, hence using gas as a transitional means to get to net zero does not fit in with what scientists are saying. “Delayed action increases challenges to both economic and societal feasibility after 2030”, which would appear to mean a breakdown in society in a number of countries. Not only are security matters seen as paramount, health is also seen as an issue for millions of people.

The Guardian, Hindustan Times, and Earth.org state that the leaked IPCC Report says greenhouse gases must peak in 4 years.

Scientists leaked the IPCC Report on the basis that it would be a whitewashed by governments. Scientist have stated: “Concerned that aspects of its conclusions will be diluted by policymakers, a group of scientists has leaked a draft of a forthcoming IPCC report, which argues that to avert further climate chaos, global carbon emissions must peak by 2025 and all fossil fuel plants worldwide must be shuttered by the end of the decade.”

At any rate, the flurry of activity displays how the LNP do not have any policy to speak of, apart from try and stymie the Glasgow COP, a strategy used by them in past meetings. There are governments with fossil fuel or meat export interests that are currently trying to stifle a Glasgow agreement; stacked against climate scientists stating we do not have time for such dangerous antics.

A passing thought, Professor Richard Alley has found abrupt climate change displayed in ice cores has happened in a 10-year period or even less time.

Keith Antonysen has been researching climate change for decades. Apart from reading about climate science, Keith also views pseudo-science presented by contrarians. It seems that the material referenced by contrarians is continually recycled. Immense problems will be created unless real efforts are made to thwart the worst climate can throw at us. Nature bats last.

As far as the demented, totally corrupt, self-serving climate-change-denying pathological liars and stone cold psychopaths in the Liberal National Party are concerned, there is only the EXTREMELY BAD COP and YOUR ABSOLUTE WORST NIGHTMARE COP!

The smirking, stratospherically arrogant, skirt-lifting misogynists, Hillsong cultists and arrogant sociopaths that line the cabinet of the Liberal Party are EVERY bit as bad, corrupt, self-serving and regressive as their Neanderthalic mates in the prehistoric coal-loving, water-stealing National Party! The LNP are overflowing with obscene, totally depraved misogynistic predators and callously inhumane sociopaths who have made a very good living as life-long political parasites with their grasping talons deeply embedded in the taxpayer purse, rorting us blind!

The LNP’s regressive ideology and adherence to filthy, polluting coal and gas industries has brought international condemnation to our door! What the hell have these discredited, bone-idle sociopaths in the worst, most undemocratic and corrupt regime in our history have achieved in eight long, arduous years? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to benefit the lives of ordinary Australians that’s for sure. The LNP ONLY make policies to enrich and empower THEMSELVES and their billionaire donors in the Top 1%. They have made a mockery of our nation, operate in a secretive atmosphere of deceptive malfeasance with an undemocratic lack of transparency that borders on fascism and have annihilated, destroyed, vandalised and defunded just about EVERYTHING Australians cherish INCLUDING our democracy, our (once) very fine international reputation (under progressive and foresightful Labor governments), defunded Medicare, our children’s State education, our taxpayer-funded ABC into oblivion whilst parachuting right-wing sycophants ()like Ita Buttrose and David Speers) onto the ABC Board and into influential panel seats to manipulate and control everything we hear and see! The LNP/Murdoch/IPA Alliance continue to vandalise our environment to appease their big donors in the ining, oil and tobacco industries and go on and on relentlessly targeting, vilifying and attacking the most vulnerable people in our society.

The appalling Alliance the LNP have drawn with Murdoch has now reached fever pitch with non-stop right-wing propaganda and anti-ALP slander spewing out 24:7. The LNP/Murdoch association with the unelected swill in the IPA (the stink tank known as the Institute of Public Affairs) which is loaded with self-serving, non-taxpaying grubs in the oil, tobacco and mining industries (including its Star member, Gina Rinehart) is a dangerous CARTEL of self-serving greedy neoliberal capitalists who don’t give a flying fig for anyone but themselves!

FFS, WAKE UP AUSTRALIA! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! It is OVER TIME these wasteful, totally depraved, nefarious and destructive grubs were shown the EXIT – preferably through the “doggie door” with their tails between their legs.

I support Kathryn’s remarks. And, second them, third them, etc. and will add more coatings on the filth she describes…

It’s ‘bad cop worse cop’ actually. Reading about Morrison’s religious fervour in crikey.com it is easy to conclude that Morrison sincerely believes that the end is actually nigh and that his invisible friend has deputised him to hasten it. On the subject of corruption, the thought struck me that Obeid acted like a Liberal but the judiciary decided to sentence him like an ordinary criminal. This country is well and truly rooted, a corrupt gang ruling with the connivance of the police and the bench – a Hollywood scenario but with no rescuer coming over the hill.
A Hollywood script would – correctly – have the baddies incorporating the black-hatted pencil-thin mustachio-ed banker, but could not even imagine a scenario where the stereotypical crusading, incorruptible newspaperman was Rupert Murdoch…

Jack, they’re like primary school kids at play time.

“I’ll be the goodie and you be the baddie. We’ll swap over tomorrow.”

  5. Terence Mills

The deal with Morrison has already been done and it has nothing to do with net zero emissions but it has everything to do with the coalition’s re-election.

Barnaby let the cat out of the bag when he said that the inland rail corridor from the Darling Downs to the port of Gladstone at a cost of $3.5 billion was booked In :

    https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-10-13/barnaby-joyce-says-coal-will-be-sent-from-toowoomba-to-gladstone/100537238

For the Nationals, holding the coal mining seats of Southern and Central Queensland is their priority and if they can have the taxpayer pay for this rail extension to carry coal to the port of Gladstone, paid for by the Australian taxpayer, they are assured of another term in office. You may say that surely this would be an expense that the coalmining industry should meet but they can’t get the funding through conventional sources so they appeal to the federal government to give them the money for what could well be a stranded asset : Barnaby has snared the PM who will agree to this funding.

None of this has anything to do with reducing emissions but all to do with re-election. Even to be viable, this rail corridor will need between six and nine new coalmines to be opened in the Surat Basin.

Am I being cynical ? Just wait and see.

    Where is the good cop?

  7. Andrew J. Smith

Agree, and one can observe the same dynamic within the new green net zero NewsCorp; same usual suspects in high places acting the contrarians to continue the tactic of creating confusion and doubts.

    Florence

There is no good cop, there is just sheer treachery.
Pretending to put out a decent climate policy, while trying to undermine the International goals is treacherous in my view.

Prior to the 2015 Paris Agreement, Anton Vaks et al had a paper published in relation to permafrost thawing in cave areas. The team studied caves where there had been no thawing of permafrost, caves where there was intermittent thawing, and caves where permafrost did not exist. The conclusion was that when global temperature increased 1.5C in comparison to pre-Industrial levels was when permafrost thawed quite quickly. The Arctic already has a temperature increase much higher than elsewhere. Permafrost stores much organic matter which breaks down to methane and CO2 when exposed.

The Arctic is virtually a powder keg in relation to climate change should global temperature increase 1.5C above pre-Industrial levels. Siberia over the last few years has had some monstrous wildfires fuelled partially by methane.

The heat dome that caused unexpected high temperatures in North Western USA and Canada was completely unexpected. Lytton, in Canada had a temperature a shade under 50C and later was almost completely incinerated by wildfire.

Greenhouse gas emissions result in melting permafrost, melting polar ice and shrinking glaciers. The resultant water raises sea level to drown low island and deltas. There is ample visible evidence of the greenhouse effect as being ours. 8m pacific islanders are affect now with 320m delta inhabitants next. Thats a lot of people to hide under a carpet of climate change. On the other hand is climate change a natural process?
    ps
Waltz has the answer the next election is uppermost.
There are just enough deniers to hold on and the medicare costs is, like the tide, rising.

  10. GL

With the amount of noxious gases spewing from the Noideationals I’m surprised that the overall world temperatures haven’t gone up by at least 1 degree in the last week or so.

  11. HENRY RODRIGUES

If anyone really believes that Murdoch has had a road to Damascus conversion, in his attitude to global warming, they are the morons. Once the election is over and the Coalition is returned as they expect it will, it will be back to normal for the bastards including the very shortlived new thinking of Murdoch and his maggots. And all this drama of Scummo and New England fornicator will be just that, a pre-election example of bullshit being sprayed about to confuse and fool the voters. The fat slob from the west and the other creeps in her entourage will be still be laughing their fucking heads off.

It is never wise to underestimate or ever trust these sobs. And that includes twiggy and his green hydrogen pie in the sky.
