Walking with Dinosaurs

By 1Petermcc

Science shows us that humans and dinosaurs did not share Earth, with the gap between us and them somewhere around an impressive 60 million years. But political science shows us that is not totally accurate. If you are thinking this is a Jurassic Park post you are almost correct in so far as the born again dinosaurs are not housed on Isla Nublar, but in the Coalition party rooms of our federal parliament.

Rather worryingly, just as in Michael Crichton’s forsaken theme park, the modern day dinosaurs are mixing freely with the human population with disastrous results.

Dinosaurs (at least the original ones) know all about global warming having been run out of town by a meteor strike that cranked up temperatures and killed off their food sources, but modern day dinosaurs have lost the art of reading Science and can’t make the connection between our behaviour and destabilised weather patterns.

Luckily we don’t need another meteor strike and runaway temperature rises to save the planet from these modern-day dinosaurs. We humans have the power to defeat them with a small piece of paper and a primitive pencil in the polling booth.

Don’t want to follow the dinosaurs into extinction? Send the born again dinosaurs to the Sky News retirement village where they can complain bitterly to the rest of the echo chamber. Almost totally removed from Australian society. Meanwhile, the rest of us can transition to our new low carbon economy quickly and get on with business. It doesn’t have to be a long drawn out change process if you vote for folk who can manage the transition, and are eager to bring it on.

The settled climate science appears to be about to be significantly revised by NASA.

“Multiple NASA Studies Confirm Bedrock Heat Flow Behind Melting Polar Ice, Not Global Warming.”

In what amounts to dissension from National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) climate change policy, a series of just-released studies by working-level NASA scientists prove that geological and not atmospheric forces are responsible for the melting of Earth’s polar ice sheets.

It is reported hat NASA will issue a significantly revised policy on climate change in 2010.

Terence, paper from 2010? It s taken a while for that story to hit the newspapers then?

There is no mention by NASA in their newsfeed or anywhere on their website that “bedrock heat flow” is causing melting polar ice.

According to NASA the culprits remain greenhouse gases.

    <

    blockquote>
Scientists attribute the global warming trend observed since the mid-20th century to the human expansion of the “greenhouse effect”1 — warming that results when the atmosphere traps heat radiating from Earth toward space.

Certain gases in the atmosphere block heat from escaping. Long-lived gases that remain semi-permanently in the atmosphere and do not respond physically or chemically to changes in temperature are described as “forcing” climate change. Gases, such as water vapor, which respond physically or chemically to changes in temperature are seen as “feedbacks.”

Gases that contribute to the greenhouse effect include:

The industrial activities that our modern civilization depends upon have raised atmospheric carbon dioxide levels from 280 parts per million to 400 parts per million in the last 150 years. The panel also concluded there’s a better than 95 percent probability that human-produced greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide have caused much of the observed increase in Earth’s temperatures over the past 50 years.

    terence,

climate change dispatch says it is “100% owned and operated by private citizens, doing it part-time and for free.”

“Global Warmists (those who believe man is responsible for any fluctuation in the planet’s overall surface temperature) have embraced climate change as a religion and not as a scientific endeavor for answers.

Our goal is not to change your mind, but to share with you all the studies and papers that consistently contradict the theory of CO2-driven global warming.”

You choose to believe some “private citizens” who use ridiculous language like “warmists” and do it out of the goodness of their hearts. Give me a break. Check the credibility of your sources before passing on their crap.

  6. Kaye Lee

Your second and third links to PSI…

Principia Scientific International (PSI) is a climate denial website that promotes climate change as a grand conspiracy with scientists “fudging” data. Overall, this is a pseudoscience website

  7. LOVO

Kaye, even Anthony Watts (Wattsupwiththat) and Lord Monkton have called principia-scientific.org a pseudoscience organisation.
Terence, I hope you didn’t send them any money? They are just another fake news site cashing in on the gullible.

    Circumstantial ad hominem

  9. Kaye Lee

    Terence,

You must understand that there is an entire industry deliberately spreading fake news supporting their climate change denialism. Which is why it is crucial to check the validity of your sources. “Private citizens” do not have the resources to take measurements or to interpret the data or model the trajectory. It is NOT circumstantial ad hominem to check peer review. It is essential. Just because you read something on the internet doesn’t make it true.

  10. Vikingduk

    Terence,

I have been a recipient of NASA’s Climate Change Newsletter for several years now, and not once have they mentioned your, what seems to be, bullshit.

The newsletter is produced by the Earth Science Communication Team, NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab, California Institute of Technology.

Mate, do yourself a favour, go read what credible, professional Scientists are doing.

    climate.nasa.gov

  11. DrakeN

“Just because you read something on the internet doesn’t make it true.”

Indeed. The contrary is more likely.

Without consulting the source material, even some precis can lead one astray.

“Why?” of course, is the enduring Question.

  12. DrakeN

    Vikingduk,

NASA made some fraudulent claim in 1969 that they had put men onto the moon, didn’t they? /sarc

  13. Diannaart

    Terence

Believe whatever you want but please stop making false claims about what NASA is doing or not doing, without checking on NASA website first.

Makes you appear, at worst, to be a liar or, at best, deluded.

  14. Vikingduk

Yeah, DrakeN, it was really shot in a Hollywood sound studio, but that a mate of a mate assures me they have raised their game lately and are much more professional with their dissemination of fake news. But we all know that they are controlled by shape shifting lizards intent on controlling the world and really want to end the religion of climate change with a new religion of mindless motherfckers. Providing a home, a place of worship for the braindead pig ignorant, a place for the happy clapping slogan bogans.

    Credible climate change sources?

The IPCC was created in 1988 largely due to the efforts of Maurice Strong, a billionaire and self-confessed socialist, as part of a larger campaign to justify giving the United Nations the authority to tax businesses in developed countries and redistribute trillions of dollars a year to developing nations. Strong had previously succeeded in bringing about the creation of the UN Environment Programme in 1972 and served as its first executive director. The IPCC is a joint project of that entity and the World Meteorological Organization.
(Strong was subsequently implicated in corruption surrounding the UN’s Oil-for-Food-Program and has resigned from his UN positions. According to John Izzard writing for the Australian publication Quadrant Online, “Following his exposure for bribery and corruption in the UN’s Oil-for-Food scandal Maurice Strong was stripped of many of his 53 international awards and honours he had collected during his lifetime working in dual role of arch conservationist and ruthless businessman.”)
Strong and his allies at the UN gave the IPCC a very narrow brief by defining climate change in the Framework Convention on Climate Change, Article 1.2, as “a change of climate which is attributed directly or indirectly to human activity that alters the composition of the global atmosphere and which is in addition to natural climate variability observed over comparable time periods.” IPCC’s mandate is not to study climate change “in the round,” or to look at natural as well as man-made influences on climate. It is to specifically find and report a human impact on climate, and thereby make a scientific case for the adoption of national and international policies that would supposedly reduce that impact.
The IPCC is also designed to put political leaders and bureaucrats rather than scientists in control of the research project. It is a membership organization composed of governments, not scientists. The governments that created the IPCC fund it, staff it, select the scientists who get to participate, and revise and rewrite the reports after the scientists have concluded their work. Obviously, this is not how a real scientific organization operates.
The IPCC’s first report, released in 1990, admitted that observed climate change was probably due to natural rather than human causes. However, every report since then has claimed with rising certainty that there is a “discernable human impact” on the climate and that steps must be taken to avoid a global climate crisis. There is ample evidence that this level of alarmism and asserted confidence is fueled by political considerations rather than actual science.
For example, in 1996, Dr. Frederick Seitz, one of the world’s most prominent and respected physicists, wrote in the Wall Street Journal: “In my more than 60 years as a member of the American scientific community, including service as president of both the National Academy of Sciences and the American Physical Society, I have never witnessed a more disturbing corruption of the peer-review process than the events that led to this IPCC report.”

  16. Vikingduk

Terence, is there no end to your bullshit? Ah, I see, just another troll peddling disinformation. Watch out, Terence old son, the flying spaghetti monster, the root cause of all that is wrong, will repair all. Yo dude, you’d be a great candidate for the church of the holy motherfcker, solemnly praying to the sacred lump of coal.

  17. Phil

I am so impressed with the ‘ Australian Independent Media ‘ .

It has something for everyone. From in depth analysis of the current state of politics, economics’ religion , all researched by some well credentialed contributors.

It can go from serious issues straight into some great satire.

I.E. The contributions from the comedian Terence and his piss take on global warming is a joy to read. He actually had me convinced for quite a while that he was a serious contributor and had an insight into global warming most of us who are so unqualified just don’t understand. His comedy brilliance was revealed with his links to the right wing cracka jack scientists who had all the credibility of a nine bob note. Yes I for one will be watching out for his next contribution. Rumour has it, his next piss take will be on a machine that will show perpetual motion is just not a scientific myth but, a reality.

Well done Terence. Btw have you worked with Ben Elton or John Cleese yet?

Gee I wonder where terence got his 2.22 blurb from.

Oh here it is. The Heartland Institute.

    About the IPCC

  21. Josephus

Kaye surely you know that climate catastrophe was invented by lizards pretending to be Jews who own the world, so halleujah we may have a Senator soon who believes this evident fact? This conspiracy lunacy reminds me of Karel Capek’s brilliant 1936 novel , The War with the Newts, in which sea rise is exploited by salamanders whose fast evolution will destroy humans and rule the watery world. Go the Newts!

  22. Josephus

PS Vikingduck, How dare you insult the flying spaghetti Monster! Signed, a devotee of Her Noodleship.

  23. Kaye Lee

Yes it’s an interesting idea that merchant bankers would use environmentalists, climate scientists and the UN as a complicit front for their plan to impose a New World Order.

    Oy vey (severe eye roll)

  24. New England Cocky

Now, now children … the growing world population is burning more petroleum products such as petrol, diesel, coal et al and so more CO2 is being produced that is affecting the composition of the world atmosphere and trapping more solar energy within the biosphere. Therefore the world is heating up and this is seen as more severe storms more frequently, more severe droughts more frequently, and higher diurnal temperatures.

The various suggestions about other causes simply do NOT stack up!! QED

  25. Lambert Simpleton

    Yes.

We do not a K2 meteorite strike to stuff the planet, because the people running things are far more effective at it anyway.

  26. Diannaart

    Terence

Given the lies you have written about NASA and, when contested, you immediately switch to a diatribe against the IPCC – a diatribe which you have copy and pasted from yet more of your nonsense climate change denial sites (I checked), reveals someone who not only lies and is deluded but cannot even string together a cogent argument to support anything you have claimed.

    🤥

  27. terence

    Diannaart

So you don’t think that I am perfect?

  28. John L

So, that’s where the latest diatribes by bitter old men who I have to converse with sometimes, comes from. Thanks for revealing all Terence, I did refer them to the actual NASA site, but I was wondering. Total baloney but, what does one expect…..

  29. LOVO

Terence, yes, you are perfect…in ways that you haven’t yet fathomed.
Your perfection has to do with your example; by which I mean; “You are an perfect example”
Circumstantial ad hominem that, cobba……….oh, guffaw.
    P.S. I hope you find your marbles……no really ☺

  30. Vikingduk

    Josephus,

A little late, but please accept my apologies for any slight to the great spaghetti monster, a momentary lapse I’ll attempt to not repeat.

Been wondering why Terence the troll targets diannart, think I may have the answer for his ignorant ramblings though — he has become a coal muncher after watching the smirking jerk motormouth morrison display his treasured lump of coal. Terence, maaaate, desist now, trust me buddy, you’re on a dangerous slippery slope that will lead to snorting the stuff. I mean, look at motormouth and josh the fraud, rumour has it that they regularly retire to the cabinet room for a few quick lines. Brown coal, coking coal, any coal, they care not. Save yourself buddy, rehab now.

  31. Diannaart

    Vikingduk,

And there was I, thinking my obviously female name and (offensively) intelligent posts drew this troll’s ire, nah just a coking coal snorter … ☹️

  32. Kronomex

“So you don’t think that I am perfect?”
    Perfect what?
    Twit?
    Git?
    Nit?

  33. totaram

Vikingduk: “..a few quick lines. Brown coal, coking coal, any coal, they care not.”

    Gold!

  34. peter mccarthy

Aw shucks. I’ve been missing all the fun.

    Curse you Scott Morrison.

Thank you to those contributors who have directed readers towards real Science sites. Much appreciated.
