The Convulsed Republic: The Shooting of Donald Trump

As a nation, the United States, as if we did not already know, is convulsed. Paranoid and divided, giddy with conspiracy and deranged by a fear of totalitarian seizure, hyper partisan and hostile to debate and any loose definition of facts (this condition afflicts the entire political spectrum), the only thing missing so far was this: an assassination attempt on a presidential candidate.

Till now, we were seeing the cruel spectacle of an aged president visibly and publicly being mauled, a wounded beast let out on safari in order to be hunted by all manner of trophy hunting punditry. Joe Biden has mumbled and fumbled his way through a haze, even as his stage managers desperately try to operate the strings. With each day, another Democratic lawmaker is expressing concern that he voluntarily yields to a fitter model.

In this whole business, the presumptive Republican nominee, Donald Trump, has remained unusually reticent. Let the Democrats keep finding the rope, and the rest will follow. Then came the shots at a rally held in Pennsylvania on July 13.

Cue to the event. Videos aplenty to choose from. Faint gunshots register in the background. Trump seems to grab his head and proceeds to fall to the ground. Secret Service agents form a scrum. Trump is then lifted, blood streaking his head, seemingly from a grazing wound. A moment of near martyred glory follows: Trump, pausing the agents, salutes to the crowd.

“I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin,” he stated in a post on Truth Social. “Much bleeding took place, so I realized what was taking place.”

The shooter in question is said to have been shot by the Secret Service, making this the first attempt to assassinate either a president or presidential candidate since an effort was made on Ronald Reagan’s life in 1981. One spectator was also killed, with two others “critically injured”. “It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country. Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead,” stated Trump.

President Biden, in condemning the attack, told reporters that “the idea – the idea – that there’s political violence, or violence in America like this, is just unheard of, it’s just not appropriate.”

Far from this being incredible, such acts of violence speckle and blood US politics. Candidates have been previously gunned down in cold blood. Presidents, whether going to the theatre or appearing in public motorcades, have been very publicly assassinated.

Within minutes, the metre on the political gauge was ticking, making Trump sound like an oppressed jihadi warrior. These are the effusive words of Texan Gov. Greg Abbott: “They try to jail him. They try to kill him. It will not work. He is indomitable.” The state’s Attorney General Ken Paxton sounded forbiddingly biblical: “The world is evil. Praise God that President Trump was able to walk away on his own. Praying for his complete healing and that this person is captured immediately.”

Republican Florida Senator Rick Scott also gave an inkling about how the shooting will be processed in the political mix. “Democrats and liberals in the media have called Trump a fascist. They’ve compared him to Hitler. They’ve tried to lock him up. They tried to remove his Secret Service protection.” This was nothing less than “an assassination attempt by a madman inspired by the rhetoric of the radical left.”

While the US is a republic proud of overthrowing a supposedly tyrannical monarch, it sports one unassailable kingdom: that of conspiracy. With its vast court, it exercises a curious tyranny over the mind. All can fall for it. There are those who will assume, and already have, that Trump staged his own shooting for the sheer convenience of it all. Nothing he will say will convince them otherwise, seeing that his relationship with truth is estranged beyond repair.

On the other side, there will be a narrative that lone shooters in these instances never exist. Behind the gun is a long cast shadow of the Establishment: the intelligence community, law enforcement, and other dark annexes of the Deep State.

As both Trump and Biden have been seen by their respective detractors as satanic guarantors of doom should they return to the White House, the moderates have a mere sliver to work with. The tedious words of “existential threat” are used as wounding weapons to excoriate opponents.

Despite such cheap language, the United States has previously endured an effort to constitutionally and tangibly divide it, leading to a Civil War that continues its haunting reach. It has also survived the assassination of its political figures, in large part because the Republic, at some point, took less interest in representative politics than politics bought. It was a point Gore Vidal proved relentless on: Why run for office when you can buy its occupants?

A mad patient, an inspired experiment, a cruel manifestation, a sprawling empire, the republic will continue surviving, even in decline, overseen by corporate boardrooms and unelected figures. “The lesson,” the Financial Review remarked optimistically, “is that American democracy has proven itself resilient.” Despite making the usual error about a political system that is distinctly not democratic – the Founding Fathers hated the idea of a fully represented demos – the paper is unlikely to be proved wrong. A spell of febrile lunacy, however, is likely to follow first.

sad and worrying on so many levels

USA is living up to ALL our expectations.

  3. Andyfiftysix

Oh the irony of it all. So many fence sitting commentators. Lets call a spade a spare, of all the politic al assasnations and attempts that the usa has endured, why , at its most hr of need, did this one fail?.
How easy we forget, letting a would be tyrant get away with it till its too late .

  4. Lyndal

Both Biden and Trump are amazed by this incident of gun violence. “Incredible” says Trump. “Unheard of” says Biden. One wonders where these men have been over the last decade

  5. Jon Chesterson

Neither Trump nor the USA deserve our gaze or attention. And neither will get an inch of sympathy from me.

I fall into the ‘set up’ camp, whether by Trump himself, the radical right or elite who wish to gain by his second presidency or whatever institutional puppetry is playing out in the shadows.

My earlier commentary elsewhere this morning as the case unfolded –

THE ACE OF TRUMP’S MASTER PLAN – NEW KENNEDY MOMENT

‘Well folks – we have just witnessed Trump’s electoral master card – A carefully orchestrated Trump rally and fake assassination attempt. All the former president’s men and world leaders including Albanese, sending in their sympathies, Trump not just centre of attention, now has world centre stage, open gate to presidency, evasion of criminal conviction and stage set to attack US democracy and anyone who opposes him. However unlikely still, that this will put Humpty Dumpty back together again, the self inflicted yoke of the US curdling in the streets.

It smells of a set up by Trump to get sympathy vote, ‘defender’ of democracy. Perfect storm – how otherwise could a shooter have missed with such arms like candy readily at their disposal, and the alleged shooter shot dead so we will never know, might even be just a fall guy. So it’s a new Kennedy moment. This will secure Trump’s second presidency. Totally predictable, he is a desperate man, a tyrant who will do anything to grab power. America is stuffed and Putin is guaranteed support and detente when Trump is elected. Total farce and manipulation of the last vestiges of US democracy. Within a couple of years US will be a dictatorship like Russia with a vengeful Trump at the helm kissing and cuddling Putin in Europe.

Did you catch Trump’s defiant fist salute – presence of mind? I doubt it, he is seriously demented but adequately choreographed by the fraudulent and sociopathic actor he is. He knew he’d bagged it and deliberately roused the crowd (deja vu) for all the world to see, part of the plan. And he will be responsible for the deaths of millions’.

Some scream conspiracy theory – well yes, America is full of it, the archetype, and Trump is no newcomer, he too is an architect of conspiracy theories, claiming he is the victim all along, this is his narrative to justify, mystify, confuse and sustain his campaign against all the lies, hatred, vengeance, malice, incompetence, failure, delusion and stupidity he dishes out, like toxic caviar from his jurassic Trump Towers – He is of course the tyrant who may ultimately get away with it, he too is slowly dismantling the judicial system, just liike Putin and Netanyahu – wake up everyone, plain sight.

Some have said already, he wouldn’t direct, order or let any harm befall any of his supporters! Yet he already has during the insurrection he deliberately incited, his legal advisers, lawyers, business associates, once confidantes who fall like flies around him. Tyrants don’t care in the least, Putin revels in it and Netanyahu wears it like a badge of honour.

Do we think Trump would care about the dead and wounded the way he dishes out his punishment and ‘justice’? Do Putin and Netanyahu? Do we really think the US is immune to such pathology, it too revels in it, it is enshrined in their Constitution and their genes – guns guns guns yahoo. This will serve his purpose perfectly, been done many times before by tyrant political leaders, and the most recent players here are Netanyahu and Putin with respect to the expendable, collateral damage and indifference to their own citizens, Hamas leaders inflict it on their own citizens as if it were a rite of passage in equal measure and slaughter as Netanyahu. Trump is full of hate speech, lies, megalomania and vengeance to the point of inciting insurrection – He has form, motive, means, pathology and history, and he’s not going to be left out of the action with such a big prize on the horizon, blind to around 75 million Americans, may be more, may be less – the ultimate influencer, and with Elon king clown Musk et al at the rescue. And this stage of his, this platform, however it has been arranged practically wraps up his second presidency (the frame), as even gullible world leaders all around the globe are sucked into his game plan – suck it in everyone, we are being played.

I abhor violence, but I will not stand around silent, sycophant, hypocritical and watch Trump inflict it on others, as he continues his march, manipulates and abuses everyone on his way to the odious White House again… and wait for it, what he will dish out when he gets there. If you have any doubts whatsoever and wish to consign this to just another conspiracy theory – cast your gaze on Putin and Netanyahu and look at the horrors they have inflicted in our world with impunity (or should that be immunity?). And don’t ever forget, at your own peril, what Hitler achieved, because no-one would step up, as again and again we listen too readily to absent wisdom, unearned and misplaced authority of our national and world leaders (not that I can think of anyone who is suitably qualified for that latter title) – condemning violence, when in fact they are either protecting their own backs, behaving like cowards as they do, or don’t have the balls to stand up and defend their own people, stabbing each other in the back – and we in Australia, our leaders are so very good at doing that. Ask Assange.

Et tu Brute, Dutto, Scotty, Botty, Johnny, but not you too Albo surely! Conspiratorial or not, one thing’s for sure, the outcome will be the same – Trump will milk this all the way to heaven and back, and hell for the rest of us… and there is the irrefutable rub.

  6. Terence Mills

A centimetre further to the right and it would have all been over !

  7. Senna

Terence, I think the opposite, a cm further to the right and it would have all kicked off.
It’s going to kick off anyway, but thanks to a bit of divine intervention, Trump turned his head to the left a moment before the bullet whizzed past his head.

This political assault will result in a major modification of the plans of the global parasites, whether or not they were directly or indirectly involved.

This event, I believe, just galvanized the majority of Christians not only the States, but the whole world. And that one bit of divine intervention is going to totally pizz off the narcissistic God-less atheists who want to destroy the sovereignty and long-held freedoms of all Western nations. The last people to see what is happening will be the lying Misinformation Streaming Media and anyone foolish enough to believe them.

My resolve to stand firm against the terrorists hiding in plain sight in this world is unfazed by this assassination attempt. The terrorist outfits who want our lifestyle vanished – the UN and the WHO in particular, are now, figuratively speaking, the ones with a target on their backs, thanks to a little divine intervention.

    How good is divine intervention.

From the UK Telegraph May 8th — “Donald Trump is planning to send US assassination squads into Mexico to kill the leaders of drug cartels if he returns to the White House, according to a report…The former president, 77, has spoken publicly of his determination to tackle America’s fentanyl crisis by “waging war” on the criminal gangs who fuel it. Three Trump allies, cited by Rolling Stone, claim the presumptive 2024 Republican nominee has privately endorsed the missions – even though he has yet to decide on specific details such as how many US troops would be sent into Mexican territory.”

The thing about a report such as this is that it does not have to be factual to have the same consequences as a factual one.
Politicians who use inflammatory rhetoric should be aware that by doing so they put themselves in the cross-hairs.
It did not even have to be a drug cartel behind the assassination attempt.
Inflammatory rhetoric raises the temperature across the board.

Did he bring it on himself?

  9. leefe

” … inspired by the rhetoric of the radical left.”

The shooter was apparently a registered Republican.

As for the Coppertone Caligula’s injury, the initial report was that it was caused by glass from a teleprompter that took a bullet. Given that the weapon used was an AR-15, I find it hard to believe that a scratch was all he received even from a slight graze. And then all the grandstanding and fist-pumping … you will never convince me that this was not a set-up.

    Senna:

    “Divine intervention”
Sure, your sky daddy was fine with an innocent bystander being killed when it could have simply prevented the shooting in the first place. I mean, that innocent bystander must have deserved it for soome reason, right?

  10. Bert

Oh dear Trump will really belive he divine, immortal, a god and his followers will bow before him.

And with the Supreme Court in his pocket my even be made President for life even if the election result goes against him.

  11. Phil Pryor

Someone called Senna has managed, one handed, to cobble up a huge bowelful of reeking excrement in the hope it will cover up the lack of brains, intellect, learning, honesty, clarity, decency, truth. Fantasy, lies, fiction, fabrication, falsehood, fiction, filth, it’s all there. There is no god, dummy, so look in the best of telescopes ands microscopes to check, for that is all there is. Fistfondling fairy frigging fool…

  12. Andyfiftysix

hey Senna, divine rights dont exists.

“This event, I believe, just galvanized the majority of Christians not only the States, but the whole world. And that one bit of divine intervention is going to totally pizz off the narcissistic God-less atheists who want to destroy the sovereignty and long-held freedoms of all Western nations. The last people to see what is happening will be the lying Misinformation Streaming Media and anyone foolish enough to believe them.’

you obviously have a fairly blinkered view of the world. Lets all hope you do meet your maker and he lives up to the hype.

Its the right wing that’s destroying what you call sovereignty and long held freedoms. And mainstream media is a right wing batch of lies. Lies by omission are still lies.
so i dont know how you managed to disconnect those facts in your brain.

as far as athiests go, i dont remember ever reading about an athiest leader declaring war anywhere. You think trying to stop plundering and barbaric behaviour is anti god. Trying to make the world a better place is anti god in your mind…..keep it up…..we may well end up with the cockroaches with that thinking.

  13. Senna

leefe, every person on this planet is going to die, except for maybe the off with-the-fairies-crowd such as Kurwell, Bezof, Gates etc who believe they can upload their memories to the cloud and thus live delusionally as immortals. I don’t know who they intend to perfect their transhumanist experiments on to achieve that, but they can count me out.
Was it a case of “divine intervention” or was it a case of Trumps innate intuition in the moment, which btw all of us have access, being in tune with the Universal will which resulted in him turning his head, completely oblivious to any threat? As far as the man in the audience who died and the gunman who died, I think it was Shakespeare who said something to the effect the whole world is a stage. Not everyone is going to die in the comfort of their air-conditioned home watching State of Origin, or sipping a pina colada by their pool while their servant feeds them grapes. Every day there are car and industrial accidents, and yet every day millions of people drive to work. Go figure.
Andy, Stalin argued the new “socialist man” was an atheist one, free of the religious chains that had helped to bind him to class oppression. There’s one atheist maniac, Stalin. He declared war on his own people, democide, 9-50 million.
As for Trumps politics, not a fan. Yet, credit where credit is due, he did tell the WHO to get lost back in 2020.

  14. Harry Lime

The bullshit surrounding this ‘incident’ is already knee deep, and expanding by the minute…everyone has a theory.Personally I think this was a deliberate set up by some Hollywood producer to use as a trailer for a movie tentatively called “The life and times of St.Donald”.There will no doubt be golden chariots and heroic fight scenes…the impossible done immediately, miracles take slightly longer.
Investors can donate to the Trump Foundation c/o the Trump Phallic Corporation,(tax deductible)
On a similar note,I see that bonnie King Chuckles is going to favour us with a visit,as a reminder that we’re still paying homage to a dead empire. For animal lovers, he will be bringing his favourite horse…I hope we’ve arranged a suitable stall. There are several qualified companions for her on Sty TV to help her settle.

  15. Phil Pryor

Senna, a large and usually poo inducing pod, has scribbled, one handed, some irritting rubbish, to prove a duncery below normal lows. Shitheads like this can survive in a coddling world of support, for even the hopeless get offered help from decent peole, whose numbers are declining. Seek treatment.

  16. Bert

Yes, Divine intervention it must be and the big daddy in the sky is selective, take a look at some of his words, as republished by the would be god in the fundraiser, Trump Bible.the sacrifices the man has made to ensure that all the teachings which have been tossed aside like the killing of unborn babies, even the ones frozen for later use, the abhorrence god has of men who fuck other men, but it’s OK to play with a porn star while the third wife incubates the fifth child… and ensured that the judges who will determine what law stands are good, righteous (self-righteous even) occupy the bench in the highest court of the land and protect the would be god from any discretions inadverently commited while in or even seeking the authority of the oval office.

  17. GL

I imagine The Donald’s paranoia and insecurity will start going to ludicrous speed now.

  18. Fred

Senna: Very funny… “credit where credit is due, he (Trump) did tell the WHO to get lost back in 2020”. Giving notice to the WHO was another of his brain farts. To quote Sen. Bob Menendez of New Jersey, the ranking Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, after Congress learned about the termination notification: “To call Trump’s response to COVID chaotic & incoherent doesn’t do it justice”. Next you’ll be endorsing Trump’s concept of injecting disinfectants.

  19. totaram

I stand with Jon Chesterton. Well choreographed and rehearsed and managed to get some silly, deeply committed Republican to give his life for his “god”. How come he missed so many times? Hopeless shot? Deliberate? How did “bystanders” get shot?
    So many questions.
If so many people believed the Sandy Hook massacre was “fake”, what is one assassination attempt?

Clipped from The New Yorker: A Nation Inflamed

“On April 5, 1968, the day after Martin Luther King, Jr., was assassinated in Memphis, Robert F. Kennedy, who was pursuing the Democratic nomination for President, spoke to the Cleveland City Club about the “mindless menace of violence in America which again stains our land and every one of our lives.”

In a mournful cadence, Kennedy told the crowd that a sniper is a coward, not a hero; that the “uncontrolled, uncontrollable mob is only the voice of madness, not the voice of the people.” Violence, whether it is carried out by one man or a gang, he said, degrades an entire nation:

Yet we seemingly tolerate a rising level of violence that ignores our common humanity and our claims to civilization alike. We calmly accept newspaper reports of civilian slaughter in far off lands. We glorify killing on movie and television screens and call it entertainment. We make it easy for men of all shades of sanity to acquire weapons and ammunition they desire. . . . Some look for scapegoats, others look for conspiracies, but this much is clear; violence breeds violence, repression brings retaliation, and only a cleaning of our whole society can remove this sickness from our soul.

    Fifty-six years ago.

DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE WITH DONALD

Someone said to me today, ‘Don’t you find it a bit early for jokes about an assassination attempt? To me, it represents an anathema to democracy’.

Well it wasn’t a joke and I replied, ‘Not if Trump or his cause was behind this, you wouldn’t and Trump is already milking it, raised fists which will later come with deliberate or misplaced vengeance, and his truth social belief this is a sign God is on his side – Except I am not convinced he does believe that, rather a chosen narrative he will claim, just as he believes he is some kind of Saint or defender of democracy, just as he incited insurrection – The irony here is monstrous, and he is the monster elect. You can’t have your cake and eat it’.

That someone’s rebuttal was, ‘errr, that is shimmying down the rabbit hole’.

And on that note I replied, ‘Down the rabbit hole…’ ‘As Nazi Germany was what it was, Russia is what it is now, and what the USA is will be. We poke our heads down the rabbit hole and pretend it is a dream, it is not happening or nothing. We turn a blind eye, we let it happen, we wait until the evidence is so compelling we are stunned by our own inaction and ineptitude, and by then it is simply too late. Democracy is not something we can wait for or take for granted, it doesn’t get handed down from heaven or by dictators. We have to work on it, fight for it, defend it. Democracy is not just about having a vote, it is not a popularity contest, there are fundamental social, civil and moral responsibilities, duties, rule of law, preservation of justice, rights and freedoms. Trump has already violated much of these, and as his manner, corruption, vengeful and demented personality has already demonstrated over and over again, we cannot just sit on the fence and say, ‘well… isn’t it too soon?’ – when he has history, form, motive, means and opportunity. This is his latest cash cow, whether it be of his making or not, he will milk it anyway all the way to the White House for a second time and he has already been deemed the worst US president in history and he hasn’t even started yet! And while those who are blind let him do so, support him with their own delusions and misadventures, or sit on the fence because they still couldn’t make up their mind, Trump cast the bait and went to war on his own people. All that wait will suffer as will many who had no choice like us elsewhere in the world – There’s your rabbit hole!’

‘What, calling this a false flag. A conspiracy? That’s going f own the rabbit hole. Ask yourself seriously, knowing everything that’s been published. OK, whatever’, came the reply.

To which I ventured, ‘Evidence – Biggest false flag and conspiracy theory was Donald Trump’s accusation in 2020 that the election was stolen from him to which he incited insurrection and overthrow of a democratically elected government and directed certain States to find the votes to overturn the result in his favour, what amounted to a serious constitutional crisis and threat to the fragile remains of US democracy. And now he states he is immune from prosecution, to which the US Supreme Court (3 of whom he appointed just in his first term) have ruled he is if it was in his official duty as president – meaning he is above the law and free to do whatever he wishes even if it were unconstitutional, criminal or insane. Of course let anyone try to unravel what would be defined as official duty or a private matter for which he could still be prosecuted, as this is conveniently stupidly not defined. Already, he intends to avoid all his criminal proceedings and convictions by assuming the presidency. Here is your false flag and conspiracy.

And as to everything that has been published… well there’s another rabbit hole. Anyone with any sense knows that what is more important than merely being published, is the independence, objectivity, balance, veracity, authenticity, reliability, credibility and relevance of your sources, and what we know already about Trump, and dare I add entertainment value? Mein Kampf was published in 1925 and the bible emerged over 1000 years, many authors unknown. How useful would either of these be as authoritative texts or sources for determining truth, fact, scientific evidence or history? Would you consider News Corp and Sky News to be worthy sources or publications and trust the CIA or Kremlin on its critique of the facts? Anyone can publish, it means nothing. And as far as rabbit holes are concerned, Lewis Carroll is the go to authority on them, notwithstanding Tolkien. We can learn a lot about morality and from the tyrants in Wonderland and Middle Earth, aghh but I digress… and why not they are far more imaginative and interesting stories than Donald Bloody Trump and Miss Liberty America…. Whatever’.

Trump said that he initially thought it was a ‘bee-sting’. I thought it may have been a pellet from an air rifle largely due to the lack of blood etc.

I have been watching for the media to tell us what type and velocity gun and bullet it was and, as it seems the bullet passed Trump on a downward trajectory, where is it and why did it not hit somebody behind him ?

So many questions and so few answers !!!

CNN (2024/07/14/us/trump-rally-gunman-thomas-crooks-invs/) he was “spotted sitting at the front of an economics class in a TV ad for the investment firm BlackRock . . filmed at his high school”. OK, he had aspirations to be successful financially?
Al Jazeera News (2024/7/14/what-we-know-about-thomas-matthew-crooks-the-suspected-trump-rally-shooter) “he made a $15 donation to ActBlue, a political action committee that raises money for left-leaning and Democratic politicians”. Demonrats? Are they still a thing? Was he naive to what the Left intends? Seems so.
A related side note from news source WION (trump-assassination-bid-shooter-thomas-matthew-crooks-link-to-blackrock-emerges): “BlackRock also announced it will release its second-quarter results on Monday.”

Crooks was a human being who fell through the cracks, ending as a useful idiot for some murderous ideology, likely influenced by MSM’s take on political discourse of the day, all of which led to his early death?

Now MSM is in a flurry, doing what they do best, downplaying the most relevant part of the story. The part of the story where Trump rose from the deck, told the secret agents to wait while he let the world know what to do in regard to the Deep State and the mercenary machinery supporting it – Fight, fight, fight, fight, fight.

Americans and the world got the message loud & clear, and MSM cannot work hard enough to hide that fact.

Terrorists in high places can take out a President or whistle-blower (political, medical etc) at almost any time. The trick for them is do it without their pants falling down. Unsadly for the parasite class, their pants have not only fallen down but are stuck to mud in their galoshes, forever. They’re about to fall flat on their stupid faces.

The documentary Bad Faith, about the absolutely rabid and extremely dangerous Christian Nationalist movement is and the threat it poses to the US when/if Trump gets back in.

You can, even though it might be naughty, watch it on the ‘net if you don’t have access to streaming services. I dread to think what will happen here if it hits Australia.
