The Blame Game – only it isn’t a game!

When things go wrong in a political context, the finger finally points at the man at the top of the ladder of responsibility.

In life, in general, we have to pay the price as individuals if we break a law.

Our prisons are full to overflowing with those whose refusal to behave according to the laws, has been deemed serious enough to warrant loss of liberty.

Government coffers are regularly replenished by fining those for whom a monetary penalty is seen as more appropriate – mainly because the public is not seen as being at major risk if the offender remains at large.

Back to politics – and despite his having used every reasonable coercive power to discourage the public from breaking the COVID-19 rules – social distance, wear a mask in public, etc – Dan Andrews is being held responsible by the Prime Minister for the upheaval in Victoria created by a second wave of the coronavirus.

Yet at the same time, funerals are being held, prematurely, for elderly people who met their deaths in Aged Care Homes which were not provided with adequate safety plans for COVID-19 by – guess who?

SCOTT MORRISON – YOU ARE VERY UNWISE TO PLAY THE BLAME GAME FOR POLITICAL PURPOSES WHEN RESPONSIBILITY FOR SO MANY DEATHS CAN BE LAID FIRMLY AT YOUR DOOR.

TIME TO STEP DOWN AND PASS THE REINS OF POWER TO SOMEONE MORE COMPETENT.

AND THE BEST WAY TO DO THAT IS TO CALL AN ELECTION, AND SEE IF YOUR POLICIES ARE VINDICATED BY THE RESULT.

I end as always – this is my 2020 New Year Resolution:

“I will do everything in my power to enable Australia to be restored to responsible government.”

When did we last have responsible government? Curtin and Chifley.

Boris of Britain, The Donald and El ScoMo are all confidence tricksters who are more than economical with the truth. All three had their campaigns backed by The Murdoch Media. Two with Russian interference and probably money. Clive The Palmer helped Morrison over the line with money which should have been payed in tax.

The three sociopathic so called leaders Of the English speaking world like three card tricksters require distractions to perform their deceptions. They do not act alone.

Dan has patiently , humbly listened to experts and hecklers, answered every question, sought further information when he had no answer. He his done this daily, for nearly 2 months , without a break. . I expect more of Labor leaders than of coalition, but he has exceeded that expectation, without casting blame or cheap politicking. Would that we had that standard of service from the federal level. As it was, the minister for Aged Care was pitiful in his ignorance and unwillingness to prepare for very obvious questions. A definite fail that should have been rebuked by the person who gave him the title without requiring any effort.

Dan’s political future hangs by the proverbial thread – to be determined by many who have no interest in politics but who are just weary of lock-downs, bad news, empty wallets and poor prospects. Right man in the wrong place at the wrong time. A victim of circumstances. But he won’t be the only one in the longer term.

Annastacia Palaszczuk might just scrape through because the Opposition is in total disarray and, to date, she’s keeping the virus at bay. But things can change very, very quickly. Perhaps we will witness an Atheist on her knees.

    MorriSCUM rule of politics.

    BLAME LABOR.

It’s worked for the Libs since Abbott took the treasury, so why would they change now.

One thing I’ve noticed with the conservatives is that they like to blame but at the same time shirk responsibility. We have had multiple examples of how they have to be dragged, kicking and screaming, to take any responsibility for anything at all and then make it sound as if they were the best thing since sliced bread for doing that.

I agree with what you have written RJ, and believe Andrews has done the best job possible in horrific circumstances. The hotel security was a misstep showing the folly of relying on the private sector when good sense and basic intelligence was required. Morrison can duck and weave and blameshift all he likes but the hard truth is that aged care is his responsibility and its ( private enterprise) failure is also his. It’s been a massive failure of oversight. Albanese almost got there last night but I thought could have sunk the boot harder into Morrison, I think he’s lost his bottle. But back to Andrews and I have to say that I think a further twelve months lockdown is going a bit too far.

Yes Rosemary, this isn’t a game. In Germany a group of doctors have had enough of half-truths about ‘this pandemic’ and have formed an ‘COVID-19 Extra-Parliamentary Inquiry Committee’ in the hope of getting to the bottom of the story.

All he tried to do was bring Victoria in line with other states. In SA, the health spokespeople and the police commissioner call the shots – the state government just says ‘okay!’ That’s what
Andrews is aiming at. His faux pas was putting a time frame on it.

When has dan andrews called for a further twelve month lockdown? Perhaps you are confusing an extension of the state of emergency with a 12 month lockdown? If so, that is not the case as I understand it. Perhaps, RC29, you could clarify your statement.

We only need look at the smirking jerk’s pitiful response to the sukkah/andrews/bastiaan branch stacking/illegal use of staff, his constant non answers to most questions, his hypocrisy, his lies and general sliminess to know this bloated bag of shit belongs in the deepest possible hole, in company with the rest of the rorting criminals of this criminal enterprise known as government.

Here is (what I consider) a balanced view-

    The federal government-
    1. Following the outbreak of covid 19 in NSW due to the Ruby Princess debacle, the federal government had ample time to put in place all types of contingency plans in the event of another outbreak in aged care.
    * It should have ensured all federal medical and emergency services were on standby to be deployed to an aged care facility when staff had to self isolate.
    * It could have given every nurse and doctor, who had to self isolate, a dedicated phone and laptop to continue to be easily accessible for patient care, and rapid advise to the federal health professionals deployed to the facility.
    * it should have immediately implemented a pandemic leave payment to ensure people working across multiple sites did not continue to work.
    * it should have regulated to prevent people working across multiple aged care facilities

    The Victorian government
    * the notion that untrained people are deployed into a hazardous and contagious workplace is entirely at odds with labor values
    * starting work without employment screening, safety training, PPE, a risk assessment, a safety plan and independent safety auditing is unacceptable. It would not be tolerated in any decent workplace, let alone one the is operated by the state government.
    * the relevant minister is a former union official, who is entirely conversant with the legal and ethical requirements of a safe workplace. He knows contractors cut corners and they would therefore require particularly close monitoring for safety and workpractices
    * Victoria is in a dire health and economic condition and there is no avoiding the responsibility of the state government.

There is no point in overlooking the damage caused by both levels of government.
The incompetence and negligence does not conform to any particular political orientation.
