Spanish Flu, Covid and Vaccines

By Annasis Kelly

People seem to be very careless about just how important this pandemic is so I will use the information presented from the 1918 Spanish Flu (or H1N1) Pandemic as a reference. Now that one has been dubbed as the worse pandemic in recent human history with amount of approximately 50 million people dying of the virus worldwide. With 500 million people contracting the disease which was approximately one-third of the population of the world at the time. In a comparison of the Covid-19 virus, we have, to date, 227,026,185 people worldwide who have been confirmed with having contracted the virus. The United States is on the way to having more dead with Covid-19 than they did have with the Spanish Flu, with 678,183 dead and 42,222,673 cases. The reported number of deaths in the US with the Spanish Flu is about 675,000, though the number generally sits at between 500,000 – 850,000 or 0.48-0.81% and 105 million cases or 25% of the population.

To put into perspective, India has a total population of 1,391,942,558 people, yet has 33,380,522 cases and 444,278 deaths due to Covid-19. The US has 331,449,281 people and has 42,222,673 cases and 678,183 deaths. India has fewer deaths and cases than America despite them being more than 1,000,000,000 more people. Yet has less, despite having more areas prone to having sickness being able to run rapidly because of the conditions there.

Australia fares better than other places in the majority of the pandemics that we have had over the past 100 odd years, currently sitting at 82,202 cases and 1,138 deaths. Most of the cases are in Victoria and NSW with 25,591 cases, 826 deaths and 49,611 cases and 276 deaths respectively. Most of these cases are internationally contracted.

Now back in 1918 we didn’t have the medical information we have now. But the absolute basic information was used back then, with masks, social distancing and isolations.

“A later study found that measures such as banning mass gatherings and requiring the wearing of face masks could cut the death rate up to 50 percent, but this was dependent on their being imposed early in the outbreak and not being lifted prematurely.” (Bootsma MC, Ferguson NM (May 2007). “The effect of public health measures on the 1918 influenza pandemic in U.S. cities.” (Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America. 104 (18): 7588–93. Doi:10.1073/pnas.0611071104. PMC 1849868. PMID 17416677. S2CID 11280273).

In response to past pandemics, the scientific community had a calculation that it wasn’t a matter of if, but when the next pandemic was to hit, and sadly it hit in November 2019. So in preparation for this they had been developing a vaccine so when the time was right they were to be able to produce the vaccine and send it out in mass for the world. So all they needed to do was isolate the bit of information that was needed in order to create the vaccine. They have created a messenger to enter the cells via the RNA to address the issue. How that differs is; “Safety: Unlike live-attenuated or viral-vectored vaccines, mRNA is non-infectious and poses no concern for DNA integration – mainly because it cannot enter the nucleus which contains DNA. Other strategies such as protein-based or inactivated vaccines also require chemicals and cell cultures to produce. mRNA is made through a cell-independent process and does not require inactivation; thus, it poses no safety concerns due to contamination with toxic agents.” How does an mRNA vaccine compare to a traditional vaccine? (Vanderbilt Institute for Infection, Immunology and Inflammation). (https://t.co/KPGehAPYU2).

With the success of Covid-19 vaccines, the push for introducing the type of vaccine for the flu mRNA flu vaccines may face a sterner challenge than Covid-19.

The differences in how the vaccine was developed are why it seemed quicker to go from the lab to production. The fact that it is not reliant on live-attenuated or viral-vectored helps make the stages quicker. It is not dangerous because of this.

If you choose to not vaccinate that is your choice. I chose to vaccinate and have already received the first shot of Pfizer with a sore arm and currently a sore bump at the injection site. That is it. I do not feel ill in any manner.

“It [mRNA vaccine] is not dangerous because of this.” True, are there other reasons it is dangerous though? 14k+ deaths recorded in the US VAERS system, 24.5k deaths in the EUDRA Vigilance system are proof of ‘safe and effective’? As for India, search ‘India use of ivermectin’. No wonder ivermectin won a Nobel prize for its makers.

“If you choose to not vaccinate that is your choice.”

Just remember that all choices come with consequences, so if you choose to not vaccinate, don’t act all surprised and cheesed off if certain restrictions are maintained for you and like-minded selfish, ignorant jerks.

*note: this is about those who choose, not those with medical conditions that mean they cannot.

The ‘Spanish flu’ was Uncle Sam’s first foray into international biological warfare, albeit unintentional, because it has been traced to some WW1 recruits from Kansas.
And the clamour from the ‘murricans’ to investigate Wuhan should be considered in the context of their outright refusal to agree to investigate the allegations that Covid-19 began in Fort Detrick.

  4. Bill

leefe, once the unvaccinated are locked out of society and dumped in quarantine camps or whatever you will have the life of your dreams? Your masters might like to keep a few alive so that they have a pool of unvaccinated blood? Or maybe that is the lot of peasants in 3rd world countries, a resource of clean blood? #InfectedBloodAustralia

    Bill,

Ivermectin did not win a Nobel Peace Prize, it was Avermectin that helped win the prize.

” The bioactive agent was purified and named Avermectin, which was subsequently chemically modified to a more effective compound called Ivermectin.”

    https://www.nobelprize.org/prizes/medicine/2015/press-release/

And there is still no empirical, or otherwise, evidence that Ivermectin is useful in any way against Covid-19.

  6. leefe

    Bill:

The developers of Ivermectin did not win anything over the putative effectiveness of an anti-parasitic when used as an anti-viral. As for the ”it killed the virus in a petri dish’, just remember the cartoon that says ‘so will a handgun’. You could pee on a petri dish containing live viruses and it will probably kill them. Bleach will kill them. Heaps of things will kill viruses in lab conditions. Killing them, in a human body, without damaging that body unacceptably, is the issue.

VAERS is anecdotal and reports are no indication of causative impacts. I could go into VAERS and report that the vaccine turned me into a newt (whether I got better later or not) and it would be accepted as a valid record. If you sent an email to a thousand people – complete strangers – selected entirely at random, within a month a certain (reasonably predictable) number would be dead. That does not mean that your email killed them.
(though it is only with great effort that I refrain from saying that, if your email contained enough of the sort of illogical conspiracy theory crap you post here, it might be sufficient to drive some people to suicide, so … )

    Bill,

“Recently, the number of deaths reported to VAERS following COVID-19 vaccination has been misinterpreted and misreported as if this number means deaths that were proven to be caused by vaccination. Reports of adverse events to VAERS following vaccination, including deaths, do not necessarily mean that a vaccine caused a health problem.”

    https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/facts.html

I think you will find that the Indian government has revised guidelines to stop the use of Ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine

    https://www.livemint.com/news/india/govt-removes-ivermectin-other-popular-drugs-from-covid-19-treatment-list-check-revised-guidelines-11623074154396.html

The Nobel Prize was “for their discoveries concerning a novel therapy against infections caused by roundworm parasites.” , not respiratory viruses.

Bill, “14k deaths in US VAERS system, 24.5k deaths in EUDRA Vigilance system”

What on earth are you referring to? This is nonsense.

A team led by researchers from the Clalit Research Institute in Tel Aviv, Israel, and Harvard University matched vaccinated Israelis 16 years and older (median age, 38) with similar but unvaccinated people infected with SARS-CoV-2 from Dec 20, 2020, to May 24, 2021. They then derived risk ratios (RRs) and risk differences 42 days after vaccination (short- to medium-term) using the Kaplan-Meier estimator.

The analysis of the Pfizer vaccine, which the US Food and Drug Administration fully approved earlier this week, involved 1.7 million vaccinated and 233,000 unvaccinated people.

The vaccine was determined to be safe, with only 4 of the 25 potential side effects that the group examined strongly associated with the vaccine. While the vaccine was associated with a 3.24 RR (or more than triple the risk) for myocarditis, or inflammation of the heart muscle, it was still rare. In contrast, the RR for the condition in unvaccinated COVID-19 patients was 18.28.

“These results show convincingly that this mRNA vaccine is very safe and that the alternative of ‘natural’ morbidity caused by the coronavirus puts a person at significant, higher and much more common risk of serious adverse events,” senior study author Ran Balicer, MD, PhD, said in a Clalit Research Institute news release.

“These data should facilitate informed individual risk-benefit decision-making, and, in our view, make a strong argument in favor of opting-in to get vaccinated, especially in countries where the virus is currently widespread,” he added.

  9. leefe

“leefe, once the unvaccinated are locked out of society and dumped in quarantine camps or whatever … ”

And there we go again, right to the extremes. ‘Restrictions’ does not mean isolation camps. There are restrictions on where you can smoke tobacco but we don’t shove smokers into camps out beyond the black stump (or on Pacific islands as with refugees).

  10. Jack Cade

So someone walks into a pub and says ‘I’ve got Ebola. Touching me or breathing even in the same room as me will probably kill you, but I cherish my freedom and refuse to wear a mask and/or wash my hands!’
Who’d march to preserve his ‘freedom’?

  11. Roswell

Bill, surely Alex Jones has a website that you’d feel at home with.

As I said to you the other day: we’re not interested in your conspiracy rubbish.

  12. Phil Pryor

There’s a pox named Bill, an effing dill, believes in fear, what an effing queer…

  13. Harry Lime

Phil, the biggest pox on this country is the Lying Nasty Party, currently ‘led’ by the most disgusting, fraudulent piece of shit ever to fall out of a nightwagon. What the country urgently needs is a vaccine against this most virulent of plagues.

  14. Bill

leefe, to input false data into VAERS scores a penalty, the FDA website has details. STUART, yesterday I found a 14k dashboard figure for deaths in the US but don’t remember the website, today I will go with Childrens Health Defence ‘Nearly 11,000 Deaths After COVID Vaccines Reported to CDC, as FDA Adds New Warning to J&J Vaccine’ https://childrenshealthdefense.org/defender/vaers-deaths-injuries-reported-cdc-covid-vaccines-moderna-pregnant-women/ VAERS stats might change due to legitimate duplicate errors being corrected. VAERS and EUDRA Vigilance data is on the internet. Seems the only real conspiracy at the moment, in terms of VAERS, is under-reporting by hospital admin. Watch the interview with VAERS whistleblower Deborah Conrad to get the picture. Jack, I doubt if someone with ebola would enter a pub, that stuff is pretty debilitating and, as you caution, smart to avoid. A few nights ago I watched a tele-prompter read a statement on the news ‘Researchers have found a cure for ebola’, I said “vaccine”, the robot on screen continued ‘they have a new vaccine’. Roswell, AJ is a bit loud for me but someone pointed out his doco ‘ENDGAME: Blueprint for Global Enslavement’ (2007) which I found quite insightful.

  15. Kaye Lee

“Children’s Health Defense is an American activist group mainly known for anti-vaccine activities and has been identified as one of the main sources of misinformation on vaccines.”

    https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/how-robert-f-kennedy-jr-distorted-vaccine-science1/

“FDA requires healthcare providers to report any death after COVID-19 vaccination to VAERS, even if it’s unclear whether the vaccine was the cause.”

Anyone can report events to VAERS (vaers.hhs.gov/reportevent.html) and a disclaimer on the CDC’s website says: “The reports may contain information that is incomplete, inaccurate, coincidental, or unverifiable” . When downloading the data, users are presented with a further disclaimer that the data do not include information from investigations into reported cases. The disclaimer also says “the inclusion of events in VAERS data does not imply causality”

    https://www.reuters.com/article/factcheck-vaers-12000-idUSL1N2P21DB

In the US, the VAERS collects reports of adverse effects in patients following vaccination but it does not show whether those adverse effects were caused by a vaccine. The death of a one-year-old included in the data could not have been caused by a vaccine for COVID-19, as the child had not received one.

    Michael,

I am getting quite concerned about the misinformation that Bill is posting and the links he is sharing. We have a responsibility to present factual evidence and that is even greater during the pandemic.

I am always torn between showing the misinformation up and the damage done by giving it a platform.

Bill is clearly not asking questions as he is ignoring the evidence that everyone has been providing, particularly about the lack of credibility of his sources and context.

He is using a scattergun approach, overloading us with misinformation in a kazillion different directions until it becomes difficult to discuss coherently.

Perhaps he is genuinely interested in learning. I have my doubts though.

  17. Michael Taylor

Kaye, I’m a 100% with you, and I admit I’ve been negligent in not acting earlier.

But as from this moment Bill’s comments will be held for moderation, and they will not be approved if they contain conspiracy rubbish.

I’ll let the other moderators know.

I’ll also be deleting his published comments that contain links to sites that spread disinformation.

  18. Kaye Lee

Not sure that deleting everything is necessary – he was well answered by many people.

    Just moderation in future maybe?

  19. Michael Taylor

I had deleted them, but they’ve now been restored. Your point was right.

    But he’s definitely in moderation.

  20. John O'Callaghan

I have noticed a few people here are quoting the FDA as proof of this or that study, which is a uneducated ignorant statement to make as they are in the pockets of “Big Pharma”…. one of the most corrupt evil organisations on the planet….. and they will do or say anything that Pharma\ Medical Industrial Industry order them to!…….. If any of you believe anything they say you also probably think Bill and Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are nice people and America is a force for good in the world….. wake up people you are all being conned!……….

  21. DrakeN

Another flat earther for you to consider, Michael 🙁

  22. totaram

John O’C: If we are being conned, please list the various persons/organisations who are conspiring to con us. And also explain, to what end this conspiracy is directed. Vague allegations of conspiracy mean nothing to any sensible person.

  23. DrakeN

totaram, is there any kind of connection between John O’Callaghan and any kind of “sensible person”?
People seem to believe what they want to believe – facts are irrelevant to quite a lot of them, it would appear.

  24. Kaye Lee

I was a teenager in the 1970s and it was exciting. The first protest I attended was about the Vietnam War. We had our first International Women’s Year the year I was finishing high school. University education was free. I won a scholarship to help with my living expenses which then guaranteed me a job when I finished. There were more jobs available than people to take them. Life was pretty good.

Yet now I feel like I am drifting back into the Dark Ages where intellectuals are vilified as the enemy, research is dismissed as fake news, scientists are on the make, feminists are misandrists, governments are exercising mind control…….and a whole host of other ill-informed paranoia from uneducated people who are resorting to pack rule, violence and force to cover their fear…..mainly because the corporate world has made it that way.

  25. Michael Taylor

I was in the anti-Vietnam War moratorium march in Adelaide. An army guy walking past me on the sidewalk later, upon seeing the moratorium badge I was wearing said; “Hey, kid. Do you even know why you’re wearing that.”

I could tell he didn’t like me.

  26. totaram

DrakeN: Just asking, as the saying goes. Perhaps, something will emerge that makes more sense. I didn’t lose much by asking. I understand how you feel, but we should try to be a little more “understanding”, when we have the patience.
