Who killed Cock Robin?

I read that opening stanza of the old rhyme as a metaphor of the continued and repeated frustrated human progress toward social advancement. It is the most disappointing certainty that as soon as the human collective gets its act together ‘on a roll’ and starts to achieve really useful advances in all things supportive and advantageous to the promotion of the human condition, along come the bastards and it all gets set back a generation or two … or worse. The person who first wrote the story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden must have felt the same way … take away the biblical language and you get the whinge:

“Here we have two people, a young man and a young woman, attractive and attracted to each other, living in the best of any world..a veritable Garden of Eden … no worries, all the food they can want, all the time in the world … nothing to do but eat, drink and root and what do they do but screw it all up! I tell you, it’s a mug’s game! ”

So let’s forget about the many, many thousands of like-managed scenarios throughout history, where exactly the same action has been repeated ad-nauseum with exactly the same result, and cut to the last election where a majority of our own society, our own people, voted in just such a destroyer of many good policies even against their own interests … and no-one can deny that Gonski was for the benefit of the vast majority of citizens … no-one can deny the NBN was for the benefit of the vast majority of citizens … no-one can deny that action on climate change in a coordinated policy with the rest of the world is for the benefit of a vast majority of citizens … so why do we always screw it up? What is this inherent ‘evil’ that, like some incubus, sitting, waiting for the favourable moment then strikes to undo and demolish any or all good works that take years to put in place?

Who killed Cock Robin?

“I” said the Sparrow, “with my little bow and arrow” …

Sadly, dear friends, it is the collective “We”. “We; the people” who kill the ideas that enhance a society. Take the NBN for instance. Under Malcolm Turnbull, in whom many would, just a couple of years ago, have considered a moderate liberal, a reasonable man, we see the total destruction of any meaningful future of high-speed broadband network for a majority of Australians. Who would have thought, by voting in such a person as the current Prime Minister, who, if we admit it, could be any conservative voter (sans a couple of million dollars or so!), himself a self and public proclaimed citizen loyal to the republican cause and the nation, would descend to such a level as to destroy the best system so as to build an inferior system more favourable to a foreign national citizen and corporation, a corporation whose former highest executives, were up before the Old Bailey on charges of grave criminal concern? Who would have thought this “honourable man” would work with such players to destroy infrastructure put in place for the benefit of the nation?

” … with my little bow and arrow … I killed Cock Robin.”

Of course, this methodical destruction of governmental regulated institutions is all to serve the ideology of “economic rationalism” … a crude, totally barbaric system that favours “individual speculation” over governmental stimulus investment. Favouring corporate structures over what is spoken in such circles as “socialist intervention” … So we now have a “free enterprise” government that scorns public sentiment and investment, voted in on a media-manipulated social platform of “all-inclusive democracy” (of, by, and for the people), yet withdrawing what it sees as “welfare state” democratic social obligations toward the citizen body, in favour of the “corporate entrepreneurial speculation” system that, ironically, is wholly and completely founded on an “all inclusive social-democratic principle” of shareholder citizens, valued employee citizens, serviced customer citizens and corporate responsibility ethics. IF THAT doesn’t sound like a humble, all-for-one, one-for-all socialist principle, then NOTHING is!

The entire corporate success ethic is ABSOLUTELY reliant on mutual cooperation between the executive, middle-management, shop-floor production and sales and distribution ONLY sustainable within a stable, employed with good-wage workers, society … surely a marvelous example of socialist democracy at work! So what these fools in the right-wing “think-tanks” and these fools in the current governmenthave not even in their most lucid moments realised, is that all their cynical dismantling is doing is putting themselves out of perhaps the only job they are capable of doing … to replace themselves with corporate authoritarianism. Murdoch/Rinehart et all must be laughing all the way to their “comrade investor shareholder’s cooperatives”!

Who caught his blood?

“I” said the fish “with my little dish” …

What do these fools in the LNP/IPA think will be the end result of their destructive machinations? Do they think the citizen body will respect them? Do they think the corporate body will seriously consider them for a serious job (not even an enemy respects the money-hungry traitor) after they have done the dirty work? Do they think their lot in life will be a peaceful retirement after they have reduced the living standard of many of those fellow citizens around them? They have to go to the shops. They will want to go to the beach, to the hotel or restaurant. They will be noticed … will they demand some sort of security to accompany them every time? If we consult “The Discourse of Titus Livius” by Nicolai Machiavelli, we will read where he recommends (wtte); “To deal judgement on a person of power, first remove him from his position of power and then ‘deal’ with him at your  leisure!” Such will be the reward of those who spite and cruel the citizen body … there are few examples in history where vengeful memory has not brought some sort of rough-justice to such perpetrators of injury.

Who’ll toll the bell?

“I” said the Bullfinch “cause I can pull, I’ll toll the bell”.

There is an inherent truth in the line; “No man is an island.” What we do unto one, we do unto all and only a child or the fool will delude themselves that they can “get away with a secret”. We of aged years know from rich experience that there are no secrets … there is no devious act nor kindness of intent that is not noted and reciprocated. There is a hunger in the honest soul for justice. There is a hunger in the virtuous soul for kindness. There is a hunger in the community soul for equality in labour and reward. Those who would deny or willingly destroy such ambition in the spirit of a nation, history notes, will be culled from the citizen body before they infect the entire life-blood of a nation. History show us there are two methods this can be done. One is the taking up of arms … an ugly result! The other is a better justice … a more resounding justice; to vote the bullies out in no uncertain terms at the ballot box. THAT is the greater justice, for THAT tells them to their face … “You are not wanted in this House”.

Who killed Cock Robin? “I” said the sparrow, “with my little bow and arrow” …

Who’ll be the mourner?

“I” said the Dove.

“I’ll mourn for my love,

I’ll be the mourner” …

And now,for Krissake … maintain the bloody rage!

Joe, you are an optimist and I hope that you are right with the possible outcomes but I am not, no in my few years left in this world and no in the life of my children and their children as well.
Greed rules Joe, in is embedded in human genes, they want the “apple from the bad tree” and are prepared to listen to the snake instead of their own conscience.
The only weapon against that is education and the ones in the top, the snakes have mastered the knowledge of providing just the basic education for the majority to serve them.
People do not risk what they have and will not sacrifice what they have to bring justice and equality to others, AKA selfishness a product of greed.
People voted for this “leader”and his team been very aware that they all formed part of the “Abbott’s team” that supported the Abbott’s agenda and behavior. Many were saying “the others will be worse”
Moderate voices or called “center left” in the opposition, protest and are asking for changes, real changes but are aware that will not having that changes and choose to be on the political safe side and not do what it is necessary.
Comments about the future speech by Swan on Saturday marking the 45th anniversary of the election of the Whitlam government will back up what I am saying.
He and the ones that share his views will be defeated by Bowen and the others that cannot see or accept the reality.
The bad ones do not care about the damage that they can cause and they will live a very long and comfortable life supported and in many cases admired by the majority.
Mugabe, Kissinger, come to my mind as a present example.

If we never had a Rupert Murdoch cast as the sparrow and cock robin was democracy our world would of been a much better place’

Free”T”…..I am curious as to what the vote will be for Barnaby Joyce at the end of today..if he will be punished for his twisted behaviour, or whether the voters will be prepared to overlook his “little peccadilloes” in their habitual pattern of putting a Nat’ back in the seat…it may be of interest as a litmus test for gauging the depth of ethical honesty of the electorate.

  5. Freethinker

Joe, lets making some generous allowances regarding the electorate and assume that it is not an ethical issue but education.
“My grandfather and his brothers, my father and his brothers have voted for the Nationals and I cannot see any reason why to change it”

  6. Joseph Carli

” “My grandfather and his brothers, my father and his brothers have voted for the Nationals and I cannot see any reason why to change it” ” ….You’d have to wonder how many times they change their underwear in a month?…I suspect it would be at least when they get told by more that three people that they are starting to stink!.. 🙂

  7. Chris

Thank you Joseph. Us Queenslanders were quite vocal in our vote the bastards out, but it didn’t translate into any power. Voting systems don’t reward protest and you can’t make people do what they don’t want to do. Wish it weren’t so

Not connected to the post, just out of interest this happened tonight..

    Comin’ at me like Gunsynd!

It’s blowing a gale out here in the Mallee..and I am going to fetch in the big Holsteiner warmbloods from the 40 acre paddock…I put them out there every day so they can forage and wander to stretch the old legs a tad…and toward evening, I go to the gate to call them in for hard-tucker..and they are usually up there by the water trough waiting for me to show up..

But today it’s blowing a gale..so windy it would blow holes in the wire netting..as they say..and the buggers are around the side aways behind the wind-break so I have to go out into the paddock a ways to get them to see me as it is no use shouting as the wind is too loud…well they pop their heads up when they see me, and I give them the “c’mon it’s dinner-time wave”..

And by geezus!…didn’t they come!…especially the big bloke…he’s off like a shot off a shovel and comes bearing down on me like Gunsynd going for home in The Cup!..I tell you what, there’s nowhere to hide in a 40 acre paddock and those buggers didn’t head to the gate so I could then lead them in…no!!..they came barrelling toward me at a hell of a rate of knots and the big fellah went past like one of those fighting bulls in a corrida at Pamplona!

I just shut my eyes and he went past so close I could smell the smear of last night’s shite on his blanket and was showered by the divots thrown up from a clean set of heels!…The mare is a bit more easy on the “dare-double-dare” thingo…she’s a cutie..but oh ..that big bastard..he can be a handful…must be a blokey thing..

  9. Freethinker

The problems of being a big landowner, we need a Praphat Panyachartrak in SA

  10. Joseph Carli

” The problems of being a big landowner…” …..we’re talking Mallee land, Free”T”…even a back-yard is big in the mallee…you need it!…and it’s cheap!..you should retire out here..not quite as wet as Tassie but…

  11. Freethinker

I have my family here Joe, but any time my wife and I jump into the campervan and go there.
We have to go back again to the Barrosa to see if the German butcher still there and do a quality control of the red vinos.

  12. Joseph Carli

” to see if the German butcher still there”…that would be “Linke” in Nuri’, or perhaps “Schulz” of Angaston…Those “German” migrants absolutely MADE the Barossa…bless their hand-knitted knotty wollen socks!

  13. Freethinker

Joe, unfortunately my prediction of what was going to be the result in the New England election come a reality
.Joyce come back to the parliament with a strong positive swing in his favor.
People like to have more of the same,as one of them say,Joyce is one of us.

  14. Joseph Carli

Free”T”…I’ll have to concede…almost!…But Insiders today will be worth a watch , if just to see the art of the “Australian Crawl” being shown to perfection by Bazz Cazz and the lizards on the lounge..and of course, Barnaby will force them to eat humble shit-sandwich…..and they will…and they will smile as they do it!…recommended viewing as a part of the cultural instruction to the young.

  15. Freethinker

My prediction is that they will go in the next election, but they will do enough damage to the country that will be irreversible.
The ALP will win, and some of the bad policies implemented by this mob will stay in place because ” they are to hard to change”
The GST come to my mind.
Remember Joe, the rules for any “smart” politician are first his safe seat and future, second what it is good for the party and third what is good for the people.
Anna Bligh, Andrew Robb, etc are a good example across the parties.

  16. Joseph Carli

I will agree that when Rudd won in ’07, many of us on social media pleaded with him to purge the ABC and go through ALL govt’ dept’s like a dose of salts to clean out the Howard sleepers….but the silly churchee didn’t ..and we saw the result..This time they BETTER…and for chrissake start on day one with the Murdoch stooge on the 14th floor of the ABC.

  17. wam

What do you mean ‘they’ screwed it up’ You have lost the significance of the bible.Eve used her below neck god-manufactured attributes to cloud adam’s mind. This feminine ability is seen in almost every advert, on every catwalk(Do you have a reason for the weird walk??). It is the topic at every party. It is the point of having women in films and TV. It is visible in every school and intensifies with each year from pre to puberty and sexual contact is accelerated by the access to the net.
Sorry, Joseph, god set the scene, making man think below the waste about women below the neck. He erred by giving women a brain but he has managed to hide that fact from the majority of them.

The cock in robin(oops) is the killer not the killed, the rest are voters in barnaby’s electorate

ps What do you make of the truth in people here put labor last on the ballot at almost the level of Australians who put the boys of Di first

  18. Joseph Carli

Wam…you have all the delicate twists and twirls of an accomplished adagio dancer who manages to finish their act with a flourish…and as to the majority of your comment, I cannot but concur… 🙂

  19. guest

I am sorry, wam and Joseph, but I see this nonsense about Adam and Eve to be just a story of misogyny concocted by males. You can imagine some of these males now being outed for their poor behavior saying: “She made me do it.”

  20. guest

That the ordinary person is being exploited is plain to see, from the sweat shops of Asia to the suppression of collective bargaining to the reduction in taxation of the rich. And the powerful never lets us forget that they are the ones who are born to rule.

Reference to Insiders reminded me of a recent Drum panel where there was discussion about the decline in respect for government and some percentages were given for different years. Oh yes, said the scribbler from Murdoch media, that was when we had huge wastage of money with school halls, pink batts…He had the words off pat because he has been reciting them from the neo-liberal catechism for some years now. The time was finishing and no one had time to comment.

It is part of the blame game which the neo-libs play, whereby Rudd is responsible for all our economic woes. And, by the way, in a more recent Murdoch rant, Shorten is the origin of all the disarray in Canberra politics.

I remember how Rudd and Garrett were blamed for the unfortunate deaths of four young people installing insulation: two from heat exhaustion, one from an electrical fault created by another electrician and another who was using a stapler after its use had been banned. It took a long time for people to realise that so many of the problems of the batts program and the school halls program were caused by the actions of entrepreneurial, profit-seeking, fly-by-night businesses.

And then there was the $900 payment. All of these schemes were to put money out into the community. I wonder how many of the critics who ranted about waste actually paid back the $900.

All of these schemes were meant to improve the lot of the broad spectrum of Oz society. But of course the neo-liberals are opposed to the idea of society and approve of austerity measures, hence the hideous nature of the first Abbott budget. We have seen how austerity has failed in other places.

As for waste and profligacy, none have been worse perpetrators than the Coalition governments of the past 4 years, with the destruction of the NBN, the doubling of debt, the non-achievement of “jobs and growth”, the chaos of the disarray of the back-benchers and the continual white-anting by the previous Coalition PM.

So what is the latest distraction? Dastyari. Meanwhile, the political assassins of Slipper and Thomson run free, and the Coalition makes all kinds of deals with Communist China while at the same time promoting China as a potential threat.

So John Howard calls for an end to “madness” in the Coalition – which has been there all along.

  21. wam

Dear Guest thanks for the lesson on god not making women from adam’s rib.
I was always under the impression that man was the first to give birth in his sleep but abrogated any responsibility for the process from then on(it hurt when he coughed)
I suppose you do not consider noah’s ark has any truth? I was always wondering how the elephants reacted to 40 days and 40 nights of shit raining down from the upper decks but then imagine the trauma when they are rotated to get fresh air.

Of course, Jonah and Lot’s missus are probably stretching it a bit.

At least the modern religions have the women below the neck line right.

So your theory of religion being by males for males to exploit the animal need to breed in women Is one I can live with.

Now all you need is to get women to think that god didn’t give them a physiological handicap to create them unequal. Rather women have a brain and muscles to accomplish great things. Historically man gets the kudos. If a woman does anything it is hidden under men or a male god did it using the woman.

    Dear Joseph
I dance like I sing the former with flat feet and the latter with flat tones.

  22. Freethinker

Wam, spare a thought for Noah, he was 600 years old when God give him the job of building the Ark, collecting all animals and put them on it.
Was very efficient the old bugger and a good excuse and example for our government to rise the retirement age.

  23. Hefina

So what is this I heard on the insiders ,that NewEngland was the first to get the NBN.only saying!!! What else have they been promised with the open Cheque ,worth following , Barnboy is in this up to his neck,
