Getting the word out

A couple of weeks ago a reader asked why AIM wasn’t being more proactive in spreading the word in what we do.

It was a flattering question. Said reader clearly considered our contribution to the political debate important enough to deserve a wider audience.

A number of readers responded with ideas for us.

Two that were prominent were that we come up with car stickers and pamphlets (that could be dropped in letter boxes).

That got the ball rolling.

The first thing we had to do was have a logo designed that would catch the eye. Check. ☑️

Number two – in regards to the pamphlets – was to purchase a quality printer and pamphlet paper. Check. ☑️

Next was to have a pamphlet designed. Check. ☑️

Lastly, design and have car stickers printed. This is still a work in progress. They are designed, but we’re having difficulty finding a local printer. We may have to look online, but we will find one.

Back to the pamphlets …

Eventually we will have a link/button on the site where people can print these off themselves. In the meantime if anybody would like some pamphlets please email us at theaimn@internode.on.net letting us know how many you would like and we will send them to you.

As we don’t have a web version of the pamphlet yet – and knowing that you’re keen to see what you’re ordering – we hope this photo will do:

Like what we do at The AIMN?

You’ll like it even more knowing that your donation will help us to keep up the good fight.

The future’s online – I really can’t see what car stickers and pamphlets will do to raise awareness of your very good work. You probably need your own Twitter account and FB page. I pass on many of you articles on Twitter, so it gets to 1200 followers. Who then can retweet.

Well done AIM! The more publicity etc that can be be generated by stickers, pamphlets etc the better. It may be just wishful thinking, but it would be great if lots of right wing political party supporters etc could perhaps avail themselves of the always excellent articles that appear on your site. May even be enough for some of them to realise that this is not a mouthpiece for Unions, the Labor party or even bloody Communists. Just a forum where good, sensible-thinking people make available via your site, the thoughts & opinions of what a great number of “good thinking” (perhaps i should say “right” thinking?) Australians say & think about the state of current affairs & especially the dismal state of what passes for Federal & state government actions here in Australia. Keep up the good work & many thanks from me to all who contribute to this great & free & unbiased site, the AIM!

I need another bumper sticker. Trying for the retro bogan look.

Seriously, I would buy a sticker. No point in downloading pamphlet, printer refuses to work.

The article by Kaye-Lee What Liberals Really Think is a very important contribution in the run-up to a federal election and I would love to see it being referenced on The Sword , The Conversation and Pearls & Irritations. Anywhere that thinking people are likely to read it.

I know that AIMN shares articles from some of these blogs and this is one that needs exposure. It demonstrates how blatently conservative politicians are prepared to lie to achieve and hold office and only tell the truth when they leave.

They have lied about climate change, they have lied about negative gearing. We even see them dragging out the carcass of John Winston Howard to scare people into thinking that Labor in NSW will weaken gun laws if elected.

    Where does it end ?

    My two bobs worth:
Word of mouth and reposting links attracts those already engaged.
Indiscriminate pamphleteering could end up costing more administrative effort dealing with trolls who seek to disrupt rather than contribute to the conversation. This is also true of injudicious posting of links.
Stickers seem to be more of a merchandise option to encourage kicking the can unless you really need to burn the pile of cash you have been unable to send to the Caymans before that nasty Bill Shorten fellow comes for all grannies money.
It could be worth running a poll on options to gauge interest before committing yourself.
    Thank you.

Bumper stickers are a bit old hat. Modern vehicles don’t have bumpers you would stick something onto. If you do go ahead make sure the printer uses light fast inks otherwise the image will disappear after one day in the sun.

My 2012 Hyundai has bumpers, I think it still qualifies as modern.

And I like them. Very proud of many years of Triple R stickers.

The reasons we have the pamphlets is because people have asked for them. Three people said they want them to drop in letter boxes. Two cafe owners want them to put with the newspapers they have for their customers to read.

As for Facebook, we have our own Facebook page and it has almost 20,000 members. Most of our traffic comes from Facebook, so we’re doing very well there.

We haven’t been focusing on Twitter for very long, yet @AusIndiMedia have almost 6,000 followers. Our traffic from Twitter is continuing to grow.

People have also asked for stickers for their cars. Naturally they don’t have to go on their bumpers.

Placed on the lower corner edge of a side or rear window ?

No ongoing cost, passive publicity at the lights, in stop-start traffic or jam, whilst parked …

I copied the photo and pasted it into Facebook and Twitter. On an iPad it is a breeze!

I like bumper stickers — have anti fracking on our vehicles — but it needs a slogan. “Media for independents” ? “Media for independent thinkers”? Sell them, We will buy.

Good to know you are on Facebook. I don’t do twitter. Actually I hate it, especially on Q and A.

Put me down for a ‘bumper sticker’ or two when they are done. It can replace the now faded sticker on the back window of the car from the local community facebook group (with 21,000+ members). However something that doesn’t fade or shrink quickly in the SEQ sun and heat would be good.
