She sat there edging forward with a tense look of bemusement on her face. It might have said, “why is this child acting this way?” He sat beside her looking like a spoiled kid with pouted lower lip giving the impression of a sulking child who had just been given a spanking by a displeased mother. She offered her hand but the most powerful man in the world sat, hands clasped together, paralysed within his own opinion of himself.

It was yet another display of snotty-nosed, juvenile insipid impertinence from a man completely out of his depth as President of the United States. Leaders making formal visitations to the White House leave wondering how this once great nation got around to electing a man with a childlike attitude to things of great importance.

It is now two weeks since his now infamous tweets about Obama bugging Trump Towers. As absurd as they were he, within the confides of his childish deliberations, believes them to be true. Children are susceptible to many influences and Trump has surrounded himself with many middle aged white Christian men. People who place faith and mysticism ahead of factual evidence and scientific methods of enquiry that are the best way of providing solutions to human problems. But then men have never really grow up.

It is therefore unsurprising that he would adopt the thinking of these people unequivocally. Any of them only have to whisper in his ear and it becomes his truth and he takes ownership of it. A president prone to conspiracy theories. He is a stubborn if not backward pupil.If there is no truth in it, it doesn’t matter. Truth became obsolete during the campaign. He now owns it and shapes it in his own image.

But who knows, somewhere along the way he might have a Road to Damascus coming of age experience.

After Merkel left Donald had his thumb working overtime. Germany owed us “vast sums of money”. Once again he was wrong and the German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen called the criticism “inaccurate”. So did former U.S. ambassador to NATO, Ivo Daalder. “Trump’s comments misrepresent the way NATO functions,” he said.

His lack of experience and preparation for the job shows up in almost everything he does. As in the case with his wiretapping tweets. Now that the FBI Director James B. Comey has categorically said there is no evidence of any taps and Britain saying the same on their part you would think he would lay low. The idea that the British Foreign Secretary might sign a warrant authorising an intrusion into US politics was laughable as are Sean Spicer’s surreal daily attempts at word twisting.

One can only conclude that Trump is susceptible to fake news and is one who believes whatever he is told without applying even the most modest test of truth.

He cannot escape the fact that the FBI director has publically humiliated the President of the United States. His tweets have been found to be lies.The President is a Liar.

On top of this England’s Foreign Minister Boris Johnson, is heading to Washington this week undoubtedly to tell the lads to grow up.

The character of the man, or lack thereof, insinuates itself on the American people every day and will continue to do so. In the short time he has been in power he has a litany of instances of having to be corrected over untrue statements.

“There’s a smell of treason in the air,” presidential historian Douglas Brinkley said. “Imagine if J. Edgar Hoover or any other FBI director would have testified against a sitting president? It would have been a mind-boggling event.”

So on and on it goes day after day just as I predicted it would. But there are signs that even his own side are sick of it. Let’s hope so. This puberty thing seems to be taking for ever.

Like Benghazi, we’ll spend millions on investigations without a shred of evidence, when if it were true, all Trump has to do is declassify the supposed warrant. All it takes is a stroke of the pen for him, and the fact he won’t do that pretty much proves he’s lying.”

”Much of what Trump does seems erratic at the time, but turns into extremely lucrative business deals for Trump, all on the taxpayer dime. It seemed crazy that Melania refused to move to the White House, but the Secret Service had to rent an entire floor at Trump Tower, the DoD a penthouse, and that money goes right into Trump’s pocket. He seems like just a lazy slacker for taking off to Palm Springs every weekend, but he’s making bank there too from all the extra attention …involved in a presidential vacation. When I say “bank” I mean “our money” of course. He thought he’d fool us into thinking he was divested from his holdings by making his sons trustees, but now taxpayers foot the bill for the Trump sons to travel the world and make deals that further enrich Donald Trump himself.”

”He was so proud of claiming he wouldn’t take a salary as president, but I’d be willing to bet he makes more personal profit in a week off the taxpayer’s back than that piddly $400k annual salary.”

My thought for the day.

Leaving aside Trump’s previous record (eg his serial bankruptcies and boasts of sexual assaults), the ideological extremism and sheer incompetence he has shown thus far (only 2 months in), with his unsuitable appointments, delusional pronouncements via twitter, and ineptly attempted enactments, should be ringing alarm bells with even the most determinedly naive of observers.
Why should we continue to give the benefit of the doubt to someone who unashamedly tells patent lies?

Our coalition government learned – or at least we hope they did – a very important lesson yesterday : you don’t introduce so called Omnibus Legislation comprising a basket of thorns with a few plums on top and insist that the whole lot be legislated in one vote by the senate.

The whole idea of omnibus legislation was a ‘cute’ idea to try and circumvent the democratic operation of our parliament, just don’t try it on again.

I am merely an observer, not a participant, in US politics (being strayan rather than mericun).
Thus I have no real power in either allowing or preventing Trump from implementing his agendas.
So far his main obstructions seem to have been from US constitutional law and the democratic processes of congress.

Myself, as someone who admires honest competency, despises corruption and lies, and who also rationally believes that humanity must reduce our destructive influences upon the biosphere in order to secure a reasonable chance of a sustainable future for our descendants, am glad there are such controls over the power of the sociopathic egotist, pathological liar and sexual predator currently occupying the position of POTUS.

Unfortunately Denise, it’s clear Trump is clueless at how the system works in the US but instead of realising it and getting educated, or getting in some expertise, he has decided to publicly show his ignorance every other day via Twitter.

He has self harmed by continually producing material that is demonstrably untrue, then instead of sensibly backing down, he doubles down with more rubbish.

When pollies lie, they risk the Voters getting frustrated. When they keep it up the polling goes exactly the way Trump’s polling is going at the moment. And we are yet to see the worst of it. When those health care cuts hit his supporter base, that polling is going to be even worse.

I think John is right suggesting it’s a puberty thing. Most folk touch base with reality every so often. Donald thinks saying something makes it so. The US President role is powerful, but not that powerful.

It doesn’t matter how much proof there is of his disgusting sexist behaviour, his woeful diplomacy, his blatant nepotism (his daughter now has an office in the White House with an unspecified role – ‘nanny’ probably describes it best), his endless conflicts of interest, his mercenary business practices and many bankruptcies, his possible tax avoidance, his close association with Russia, allowing that maniac Steve Bannon to write policy, offending pretty much every world leader, every Muslim and every Mexican, nude photo shoots of his wife on his plane handcuffed to a briefcase…..on and on it goes.

People like Denise will still say well I like him so there!

Facts are truly irrelevant to that constituency.

Denise, Trump is so great that Democrat Senators have hinted at Impeachment indicated by Senator Diane Feinstein, Senate Judiciary Committee; and Maxine Waters, Committee on Financial Services.

The FBI has stated that Trump lied in relation to Obama organising phone tapping. The FBI are investigating any ties with Russia that Trump may have had.

The Trump administration provides a swamp full of climate change deniers. Deregulation of everything possible is on their agenda.

Tillerson, while CEO of ExxonMobil had very close ties with Russia, he obtained a Russian honour for his close relationship with Russian fossil fuel interests. The Russians were wanting to use the expertise of ExxonMobil to develop oil reserves in the Arctic Ocean. The project collapsed after the Russia was involved in war in the Balkans, and President Obama created sanctions against Russia.

I would have no issue with the voting in of Trump – but a tiny percentage of the total population actually voted. So the POTUS, arguably one of the most powerful positions in the world has been put in by 27% of the eligible population. That is unacceptable, he has the power to push a button and destroy the world. It seems the only button he can push is one that tweets lies and rubbish every day. Don’t even get me started on the narcissim and the mysogyny. On top of that he is still holding election mode. My theory is that he doesn’t know what the president actually does once elected, so he keeps on rallying to pump up the 27% that voted him in.
Pathetic. Dangerously uneducated. I wonder if they have told him he can’t just declare bankruptcy and start again – it’s a country not a business.

The Donald can’t tolerate the idea of a woman being better than a man so he went into pouty petty teenage mode when he was with Merkel when he worked out that she was superior to him. I understand there are such things as chat-bots that are programmed to respond to online blogs and are triggered by particular words – they can be programmed to the right or left of politics and rarely develop or initiate well thought through propositions or arguments.

Frequently they respond in one-liners that are not well developed or persuasive but are usually argumentative and provocative.

They interfered quite successfully in the US presidential election and helped insert fake news into social media sites. Denise, I disagree with you, however I sincerely believe in your right to hold your opinion and in the interest of a free and open debate, I invite you to provide the reasoning behind your assertion that Trump is good.
Everyone see what I did there? I didn’t deliver the big smack down, I didn’t belittle someone for having an opposing opinion and I invited open debate. Was there not an article on this very website, not a week ago, entitled something like “I’m right, you’re wrong, so I will denigrate you.” And did not a number of commenters on this thread cheer and support the sentiment expressed in that article? And now some of these same commenters are now denigrating Denise for having a contrary opinion.
I can handle bigotry, I can handle ignorance. These are traits which can be addressed. What I can’t stand, is hypocrisy. I’m out.

Only a few weeks in and Trump has shown himself to be just a big baby narcissist who has surrounded himself with crackpot acolytes and is yet another member of the Kardashian Club of Celebrity Saviours.

One day he may stop talking about his “huge” electoral college win and do something meaningful.

Until then he’s already told us many times that “no-one knows more about (…insert any subject whatsoever here…) than me”, lies blatantly and continually and is totally paranoid about media scrutiny. Every criticism is called “fake”.

Despite his accusatory statements about Mexico and China, both he and Ivanka have most of their Trump-labelled products (shoes, business suits etc) manufactured there.

It would be funny if it wasn’t so potentially serious.

To most women, it’s incomprehensible that women voted for this person. And despite everything, there are still women like Denise Drysdale (presuming she’s a woman) who want to “give him a bit more of a chance.” Well, I don’t want to give him a chance. I would like to see him locked up, this assaulter of women, liar, cheater of women and tax obligations. It’s an abomination that he could be in such a position as POTUS. Trump saw being President as providing a massive boost to his businesses. He is also incapable of self-analysis so can ignore the fact that he does not know how to lead a country in a useful direction. He sees it as an opportunity to do what he likes on a global scale. Hopefully he will step over the mark badly enough and soon enough to be impeached. Otherwise the USA’s reputation will go down the gurgler real fast

In my humble opinion Trump relies on those rallies as they are the only thing left that work for him. As his ratings continue to slide, as he gets deeper into trouble, as the shit is about to really hit the fan … watch the rallies become more frequent.

There is a negative to it though: the violence they promote. Things are about to get ugly.

It is a bit much to try to somehow link population to rally attendance as an approval/disapproval of something.
A decent size rally shows people are committed to their cause

While Denise wasn’t offensive, at best she was vacuous – empty of argument or debate. Not that there’s anything wrong with that but as to why she posts is puzzling. Wants to get her name in print? Wants to be noticed?

Me – I come here to ‘buy a fight’, intellectually speaking. To test ideas, arguments, points of view and the like. And in so doing, I hope to learn something along the way. In short, I don’t want to be a Denise. A fully functioning Democracy demands more than that.

I understand and agree with your points nurses, but these rallies are like the polls that we see spouted in all the papers – they are based on a miniscule proportion of voters who were motivated enough to answer the survey.

March in March is a unique event in that it is an invitation to ordinary unaligned Australians to come together to air their grievances whatever they may be. There is no specific interest group directing the protest which has drawn criticism from commentators but relief and praise from the ordinary citizens who take part. I think we all recognise that it is individual venting in a collective way but how different is that to Trump rallies where everyone has the same sign and they chant stuff like they are the kids in Lord of the Flies.

March in March is for a community to allow its citizens to say “Yanno what really pisses me off….”

My comment had nothing to do with Trump rallies, the attendance at which I would assume would be very different depending on location. It also had nothing to do with any tv show or comment about same. It was just a statement of fact. It shows two things to me – not many people voted (less than 60%) and, of those who did, the majority didn’t vote for Trump. About 27.5% of eligible voters voted for Trump and I doubt his support has headed in a positive direction from there.

I would have no issue with the voting in of Trump – but a tiny percentage of the total population actually voted. So the POTUS, arguably one of the most powerful positions in the world has been put in by 27% of the eligible population. That is unacceptable, he has the power to push a button and destroy the world. It seems the only button he can push is one that tweets lies and rubbish every day. Don’t even get me started on the narcissim and the mysogyny. On top of that he is still holding election mode. Only a few weeks in and Trump has shown himself to be just a big baby narcissist who has surrounded himself with crackpot acolytes and is yet another member of the Kardashian Club of Celebrity Saviours.

One day he may stop talking about his “huge” electoral college win and do something meaningful.

Until then he’s already told us many times that “no-one knows more about (…insert any subject whatsoever here…) than me”, lies blatantly and continually and is totally paranoid about media scrutiny. Every criticism is called “fake”.

Despite his accusatory statements about Mexico and China, both he and Ivanka have most of their Trump-labelled products (shoes, business suits etc) manufactured there.

It would be funny if it wasn’t so potentially serious.

To most women, it’s incomprehensible that women voted for this person. And despite everything, there are still women like Denise Drysdale (presuming she’s a woman) who want to “give him a bit more of a chance.” Well, I don’t want to give him a chance. I would like to see him locked up, this assaulter of women, liar, cheater of women and tax obligations. It’s an abomination that he could be in such a position as POTUS. In my humble opinion Trump relies on those rallies as they are the only thing left that work for him. As his ratings continue to slide, as he gets deeper into trouble, as the shit is about to really hit the fan … watch the rallies become more frequent.

There is a negative to it though: the violence they promote. Things are about to get ugly.

A decent size rally shows people are committed to their cause

While Denise wasn’t offensive, at best she was vacuous – empty of argument or debate. Not that there’s anything wrong with that but as to why she posts is puzzling. Wants to get her name in print? Wants to be noticed?

Me – I come here to ‘buy a fight’, intellectually speaking. To test ideas, arguments, points of view and the like. And in so doing, I hope to learn something along the way. In short, I don’t want to be a Denise. A fully functioning Democracy demands more than that.

I understand and agree with your points nurses, but these rallies are like the polls that we see spouted in all the papers – they are based on a miniscule proportion of voters who were motivated enough to answer the survey.

March in March is a unique event in that it is an invitation to ordinary unaligned Australians to come together to air their grievances whatever they may be. There is no specific interest group directing the protest which has drawn criticism from commentators but relief and praise from the ordinary citizens who take part. I think we all recognise that it is individual venting in a collective way but how different is that to Trump rallies where everyone has the same sign and they chant stuff like they are the kids in Lord of the Flies.

March in March is for a community to allow its citizens to say “Yanno what really pisses me off….”

I decided, rather than just suppose as you had, to check local newspapers for the corresponding day to see if figures were exaggerated or downplayed.
It seems the graph of attendances in the truthfeed link was exactly what separate sources were quoting

i find there is a lot of things that are similar. It is more that times have changed and there are more checks and people that will protect from the excesses, so the outcome one hopes will not be the same.

Of course if Trump sets back renewables by years, or inflates the Clash of Civilisations too much, that could result in many deaths over the long term.

I simply remember reading that he’d been caught out paying people to attend his rallies. After some googling I discovered that I had read correctly, however even though the article was recent, it was about an event in 2015.

My vague comment. FFS.

And if you think Kaye was having a go at you then you perhaps need to spend more time reading people’s comments instead of jumping to conclusions.

‘We will immediately repeal and replace ObamaCare – and nobody can do that like me. We will save $’s and have much better healthcare!’

Then reality hit home and like most conservatives who hate universal healthcare he realized he couldn’t do it without harming at least 24 million Americans .

The Trump saga rolls on. The Americans got themselves set for higher US rates, a high American dollar, higher share prices etc. But the legislation requiring the lower taxes and other assorted measures requires first the abolition of Obamacare. This is not easy to do because the Republicans came to office in the very states that are among the major beneficiaries of Obamacare.

Many US voters didn’t know what Donald Trump was talking about when he promised to abolish Obamacare. They didn’t know medical benefits by that name. But they are starting to understand, and that is starting to make a lot of Republicans very nervous.

While I have difficulty with Gottliebsen, there is no doubt that attempts to muck around with health care face strong opposition in both Australia and the America. In Australia, the LNP approach has been ‘death via financial strangulation’ but the reality is that the punters are in revolt. Watch for the coming Budget to see an increase in health funding. Health funding is a vote changer.

My comment had nothing to do with Trump rallies, the attendance at which I would assume would be very different depending on location. It also had nothing to do with any tv show or comment about same. It was just a statement of fact. It shows two things to me – not many people voted (less than 60%) and, of those who did, the majority didn’t vote for Trump. About 27.5% of eligible voters voted for Trump and I doubt his support has headed in a positive direction from there.
