Day to Day Politics: The Trump Report No. 11 – “Just kids’ stuff”

Thursday 23 March  2017

She sat there edging forward with a tense look of bemusement on her face. It might have said, “why is this child acting this way?” He sat beside her looking like a spoiled kid with pouted lower lip giving the impression of a sulking child who had just been given a spanking by a displeased mother. She offered her hand but the most powerful man in the world sat, hands clasped together, paralysed within his own opinion of himself.

It was yet another display of snotty-nosed, juvenile insipid impertinence from a man completely out of his depth as President of the United States. Leaders making formal visitations to the White House leave wondering how this once great nation got around to electing a man with a childlike attitude to things of great importance.

It is now two weeks since his now infamous tweets about Obama bugging Trump Towers. As absurd as they were he, within the confides of his childish deliberations, believes them to be true. Children are susceptible to many influences and Trump has surrounded himself with many middle aged white Christian men. People who place faith and mysticism ahead of factual evidence and scientific methods of enquiry that are the best way of providing solutions to human problems. But then men have never really grow up.

It is therefore unsurprising that he would adopt the thinking of these people unequivocally. Any of them only have to whisper in his ear and it becomes his truth and he takes ownership of it. A president prone to conspiracy theories. He is a stubborn if not backward pupil. If there is no truth in it, it doesn’t matter. Truth became obsolete during the campaign. He now owns it and shapes it in his own image.

But who knows, somewhere along the way he might have a Road to Damascus coming of age experience.

After Merkel left Donald had his thumb working overtime. Germany owed us “vast sums of money”. Once again he was wrong and the German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen called the criticism “inaccurate”. So did former U.S. ambassador to NATO, Ivo Daalder. “Trump’s comments misrepresent the way NATO functions,” he said.

His lack of experience and preparation for the job shows up in almost everything he does. As in the case with his wiretapping tweets. Now that the FBI Director James B. Comey has categorically said there is no evidence of any taps and Britain saying the same on their part you would think he would lay low. The idea that the British Foreign Secretary might sign a warrant authorising an intrusion into US politics was laughable as are Sean Spicer’s surreal daily attempts at word twisting.

One can only conclude that Trump is susceptible to fake news and is one who believes whatever he is told without applying even the most modest test of truth.

He cannot escape the fact that the FBI director has publically humiliated the President of the United States. His tweets have been found to be lies. The President is a Liar.

On top of this England’s Foreign Minister Boris Johnson, is heading to Washington this week undoubtedly to tell the lads to grow up.

The character of the man, or lack thereof, insinuates itself on the American people every day and will continue to do so. In the short time he has been in power he has a litany of instances of having to be corrected over untrue statements.

“There’s a smell of treason in the air,” presidential historian Douglas Brinkley said. “Imagine if J. Edgar Hoover or any other FBI director would have testified against a sitting president? It would have been a mind-boggling event.”

So on and on it goes day after day just as I predicted it would. But there are signs that even his own side are sick of it. Let’s hope so. This puberty thing seems to be taking for ever.

From my American friend Ben Williamson:

”Republicans have agreed to investigate the ridiculous claim that Obama tapped Trump’s phones. Like Benghazi, we’ll spend millions on investigations without a shred of evidence, when if it were true, all Trump has to do is declassify the supposed warrant. All it takes is a stroke of the pen for him, and the fact he won’t do that pretty much proves he’s lying.”

”Much of what Trump does seems erratic at the time, but turns into extremely lucrative business deals for Trump, all on the taxpayer dime. It seemed crazy that Melania refused to move to the White House, but the Secret Service had to rent an entire floor at Trump Tower, the DoD a penthouse, and that money goes right into Trump’s pocket. He seems like just a lazy slacker for taking off to Palm Springs every weekend, but he’s making bank there too from all the extra attention …involved in a presidential vacation. When I say “bank” I mean “our money” of course. He thought he’d fool us into thinking he was divested from his holdings by making his sons trustees, but now taxpayers foot the bill for the Trump sons to travel the world and make deals that further enrich Donald Trump himself.”

”He was so proud of claiming he wouldn’t take a salary as president, but I’d be willing to bet he makes more personal profit in a week off the taxpayer’s back than that piddly $400k annual salary.”

My thought for the day.

Humility is the basis of all intellectual advancement. However, it is truth that that enables human progress.”

Please give Donald a go. He has only been in Government for a very short time.

  2. corvus boreus

    Denise Drysdale,
Leaving aside Trump’s previous record (eg his serial bankruptcies and boasts of sexual assaults), the ideological extremism and sheer incompetence he has shown thus far (only 2 months in), with his unsuitable appointments, delusional pronouncements via twitter, and ineptly attempted enactments, should be ringing alarm bells with even the most determinedly naive of observers.
Why should we continue to give the benefit of the doubt to someone who unashamedly tells patent lies?

  3. helvityni

    He’s having a go many people, isn’t he Denise…? 🙂

Do people change their ways at seventy, at any age…? Some do, not many, and some get harder to deal with as they age….

I had no illusions about Tony’s ability to change, but I naively expected better from Mal….

    And so it goes…

  4. Denise Drysdale

He was voted to lead the country so let him lead.Let him do it his way.

  5. corvus boreus

    Denise,
“His way” as in “just grab them by the pussy” or as in “YOU’RE FIIIIIIRED !!!!!” ?

  6. Terry2

Our coalition government learned – or at least we hope they did – a very important lesson yesterday : you don’t introduce so called Omnibus Legislation comprising a basket of thorns with a few plums on top and insist that the whole lot be legislated in one vote by the senate.

The whole idea of omnibus legislation was a ‘cute’ idea to try and circumvent the democratic operation of our parliament, just don’t try it on again.

  7. Terry2

    Denise

You said “He was voted to lead the country so let him lead.”

Have you noted the glaring inconsistency in what you say and that the world is now seeing. He is not a leader he is a narcissistic bully.

  8. Denise Drysdale

I think he’s great. So there!

  9. corvus boreus

I am merely an observer, not a participant, in US politics (being strayan rather than mericun).
Thus I have no real power in either allowing or preventing Trump from implementing his agendas.
So far his main obstructions seem to have been from US constitutional law and the democratic processes of congress.

Myself, as someone who admires honest competency, despises corruption and lies, and who also rationally believes that humanity must reduce our destructive influences upon the biosphere in order to secure a reasonable chance of a sustainable future for our descendants, am glad there are such controls over the power of the sociopathic egotist, pathological liar and sexual predator currently occupying the position of POTUS.

  10. helvityni

“I think he’s great. So there!”

So HE says, Denise, and YOU agree….

  11. Denise Drysdale

    Your just jealous Terry!

  12. Terry2

The Wall Street Journal has noted of the Trump tendency to :

“seemingly endless stream of exaggerations, evidence-free accusations, implausible denials and other falsehoods”

Otherwise, Denise, things are going really well for Donald !

  13. Harquebus

We have seen no evidence concerning the DNC email hacks that were probably leaks nor Russian interference in the presidential election and yet, it is taken as fact.
What was that you said once John? Question everything.

“Few any longer believe the “mainstream media,” that is, the presstitutes. This has put them into a panic as the presstitutes lose their value to the ruling elite if the presstitutes cannot control the explanations in order to justify the self-serving agendas of the ruling elite.”

glad to see truth is back lord i was missing my morning giggle.

spot on corvus our equivalent potus and iiots (independent idiots of the senate) deserves our attack and billy has been strong on 2 and 24 quietly hoping for a breaking news.

As for denise we could paraphrase malcolm, (the intellectual heart of the iiots) and suggest, a la crocodile dundee:
‘some women like pussy being groped’
ps did anyone else notice miriam margoyles try to talk to a trump republican woman, in the real marigold tour? At least denise is a trier.

As for trumpuisms, Indeed I wish my labor government would call our paper’s bluff and stop any government advertising or comment.

  15. 1petermcc

Unfortunately Denise, it’s clear Trump is clueless at how the system works in the US but instead of realising it and getting educated, or getting in some expertise, he has decided to publicly show his ignorance every other day via Twitter.

He has self harmed by continually producing material that is demonstrably untrue, then instead of sensibly backing down, he doubles down with more rubbish.

When pollies lie, they risk the Voters getting frustrated. When they keep it up the polling goes exactly the way Trump’s polling is going at the moment. And we are yet to see the worst of it. When those health care cuts hit his supporter base, that polling is going to be even worse.

I think John is right suggesting it’s a puberty thing. Most folk touch base with reality every so often. Donald thinks saying something makes it so. The US President role is powerful, but not that powerful.

  16. Kaye Lee

It has been a very deliberate campaign by Trump to make people not trust the media and the intelligence services. It doesn’t matter how much proof there is of his disgusting sexist behaviour, his woeful diplomacy, his blatant nepotism (his daughter now has an office in the White House with an unspecified role – ‘nanny’ probably describes it best), his endless conflicts of interest, his mercenary business practices and many bankruptcies, his possible tax avoidance, his close association with Russia, allowing that maniac Steve Bannon to write policy, offending pretty much every world leader, every Muslim and every Mexican, nude photo shoots of his wife on his plane handcuffed to a briefcase…..on and on it goes.

People like Denise will still say well I like him so there!

Facts are truly irrelevant to that constituency.

  17. Keith

Denise, Trump is so great that Democrat Senators have hinted at Impeachment indicated by Senator Diane Feinstein, Senate Judiciary Committee; and Maxine Waters, Committee on Financial Services.

The FBI has stated that Trump lied in relation to Obama organising phone tapping. The FBI are investigating any ties with Russia that Trump may have had.

The Trump administration provides a swamp full of climate change deniers. Deregulation of everything possible is on their agenda.

A Top Congresswoman Just Made The Trump Announcement We’ve All Been Waiting For

Tillerson, while CEO of ExxonMobil had very close ties with Russia, he obtained a Russian honour for his close relationship with Russian fossil fuel interests. The Russians were wanting to use the expertise of ExxonMobil to develop oil reserves in the Arctic Ocean. The project collapsed after the Russia was involved in war in the Balkans, and President Obama created sanctions against Russia.

  18. jimhaz

[It has been a very deliberate campaign by Trump to make people not trust the media and the intelligence services]

He also cannot handle the questions from the MSM. It would show him up as a one trick pony with Bannon on top.
So barring the media provides propaganda against accurate reporting and hides his incompetence.

  19. Keitha Granville

I would have no issue with the voting in of Trump – but a tiny percentage of the total population actually voted. So the POTUS, arguably one of the most powerful positions in the world has been put in by 27% of the eligible population. That is unacceptable, he has the power to push a button and destroy the world. It seems the only button he can push is one that tweets lies and rubbish every day. Don’t even get me started on the narcissim and the mysogyny. On top of that he is still holding election mode. My theory is that he doesn’t know what the president actually does once elected, so he keeps on rallying to pump up the 27% that voted him in.
Pathetic. Dangerously uneducated. I wonder if they have told him he can’t just declare bankruptcy and start again – it’s a country not a business.

  20. guest

    Denise Drysdale,

Your comment “Your just jealous Terry!” tells us something.

You’re in need of a little advice, Denise. Luckily for you, you have some advice here already. I am not sure you’re going to pay much attention.

  21. Kronomex

Theresa May is a weak leader while Angela Merkel is a strong leader. The Donald can’t tolerate the idea of a woman being better than a man so he went into pouty petty teenage mode when he was with Merkel when he worked out that she was superior to him. And like a nasty petty teenager he waited to snipe at her behind her back after she left.

  22. Roswell

What stuns me more than anything is his refusal to have his regular security briefings, which you’d think are rather necessary (for obvious reasons). He is deluded enough to believe he doesn’t need them, because … “I’m a smart guy”.

    Holy shit, Batman.

Thank god he’s a smart guy. We can’t afford to have a dumb prick as leader of the free world.

  23. jimhaz

[In his second term, Obama continued to miss the majority of his daily intelligence meetings]

The article means nothing to me – unworthy of any attention. Trump needs to attend more as he is an outsider and knows so little.

  24. Terry2

I understand there are such things as chat-bots that are programmed to respond to online blogs and are triggered by particular words – they can be programmed to the right or left of politics and rarely develop or initiate well thought through propositions or arguments.

Frequently they respond in one-liners that are not well developed or persuasive but are usually argumentative and provocative.

They interfered quite successfully in the US presidential election and helped insert fake news into social media sites. For instance, the ‘announcement’ from the Vatican that the Pope had thrown his support behind Donald Trump was actually a satirical article : http://wtoe5news.com/us-election/pope-francis-shocks-world-endorses-donald-trump-for-president-releases-statement/

With 165 million American Catholics, many of hispanic ethnicity it is probable that this announcement, that went throughout social media, would have influenced a proportion of those voters to vote against their own best interests and to follow a false papal decree.

So, the question is : are you Denise Drysdale a chat-bot domiciled in Moldova or are you Ding Dong ?

  25. helvityni

Yes Kronomex, because Angela is strong, Trump could not tolerate her,as Theresa was keen to meet him (the first leader), so she was ok…

Both of them must thank their lucky stars that they are not prettier…Trump might even be tempted to give them a kiss and a bit of a squeeze…

  26. Warwick

Ok, I’m going to attempt a different tack here, and everyone see if they can spot the difference.
Denise, I disagree with you, however I sincerely believe in your right to hold your opinion and in the interest of a free and open debate, I invite you to provide the reasoning behind your assertion that Trump is good.
Everyone see what I did there? I didn’t deliver the big smack down, I didn’t belittle someone for having an opposing opinion and I invited open debate. Was there not an article on this very website, not a week ago, entitled something like “I’m right, you’re wrong, so I will denigrate you.” And did not a number of commenters on this thread cheer and support the sentiment expressed in that article? And now some of these same commenters are now denigrating Denise for having a contrary opinion.
I can handle bigotry, I can handle ignorance. These are traits which can be addressed. What I can’t stand, is hypocrisy. I’m out.

  27. Roswell

Harquebus, I’m sure that every president has missed a briefing or two. But at least there were briefings.

  28. Harquebus

    Roswell
Yeah but, Obama didn’t just a meeting or two did he? More like half.
    Cheers.

  29. Denise Drysdale

Gee that really hurt guest !

  30. Zathras

Only a few weeks in and Trump has shown himself to be just a big baby narcissist who has surrounded himself with crackpot acolytes and is yet another member of the Kardashian Club of Celebrity Saviours.

One day he may stop talking about his “huge” electoral college win and do something meaningful.

Until then he’s already told us many times that “no-one knows more about (…insert any subject whatsoever here…) than me”, lies blatantly and continually and is totally paranoid about media scrutiny. Every criticism is called “fake”.

Despite his accusatory statements about Mexico and China, both he and Ivanka have most of their Trump-labelled products (shoes, business suits etc) manufactured there.

It would be funny if it wasn’t so potentially serious.

  31. Roswell

Harquebus, you miss my point. Trump said he didn’t need the briefings because he’s a smart guy. That doesn’t rest easy with a lot of people.

  32. margcal

Is “Denise Drysdale” the media personality or is someone using her name?
If it is the real media personality, she wasn’t ‘acting’ dumb as I’d always thought.
But if someone is using the media person’s name, they should be barred – in my opinion, of course.

  33. Dyve

His orangeness, the ever-lasting teenager, Drumph, has three activities, rotated on a regular basis. In Washington he tweets and otherwise displays his ignorance, foolishness, capacity to lie, pettiness, pent-up anger and vengefulness. In various cities he plays to yet another rally of his acolytes in order to stroke his ego. He plays golf in Florida at $3million a trip. Now, that’s leadership!

  34. babyjewels10

To most women, it’s incomprehensible that women voted for this person. And despite everything, there are still women like Denise Drysdale (presuming she’s a woman) who want to “give him a bit more of a chance.” Well, I don’t want to give him a chance. I would like to see him locked up, this assaulter of women, liar, cheater of women and tax obligations. It’s an abomination that he could be in such a position as POTUS. I don’t think he’ll last long, but he’s already doing a great deal of damage, at home and abroad. Donald Trump, the demented Cheezel.

  35. Arthur Baker

“Brittan”? That would be Britain, then.

  36. Roswell

Thanks Arthur. I’ve fixed it. John needs to turn on his spell-checker.

  37. Johno

    Kronomex
Yes that is the feeling I got as well. Trumps demeanour around Angela Merkel really made it apparent he can’t handle a strong person/women.

  38. paulwalter

    There’ll always be a Brittan.

  39. @RosemaryJ36

Trump saw being President as providing a massive boost to his businesses. He is also incapable of self-analysis so can ignore the fact that he does not know how to lead a country in a useful direction. He sees it as an opportunity to do what he likes on a global scale. Hopefully he will step over the mark badly enough and soon enough to be impeached. Otherwise the USA’s reputation will go down the gurgler real fast
    !

“The Senate vote on the Greens motion that could reduce the suffering of thousands of patients across Australia has been postponed until 11 May 2017 as it needs the support of all of the Labor Senators to get it across the line.

If Labor had supported the motion on Thursday [today], patients with terminal conditions and serious life threatening conditions in every state and territory of Australia could have had fast tracked access but now they will have to wait until May and hope that Labor stops dragging its feet on this issue or they will need to try to use the laborious and painstakingly drawn out Category B process that can take up to 6 months or more as the doctor needs TGA and state approval.”

    “Where’s nurses1968?”
I’m here now, miss me did you 😀
I’m not up to date on why Labor is dragging its heals as I’ve been off a few days representing my boss at a do for Julia Gillard who is now chairing Beyond Blue but I’m sure they had a reasonable reason.

I didn’t read the link but assume you mean the cannabis legislation?

  43. nurses1968

Trump is generating so much interest they are running a new series of The Circus
“THE CIRCUS. This documentary series pulls back the curtain on the 2016 presidential race and the Trump administration, revealing the intense, inspiring and infuriating stories behind the headlines.”
With the stuff ups they couldn’t let it end at the election.
Trump still is drawing massive numbers at his rallies though

  44. Kaye Lee

population of the United States of America is 325,816,150 (today’s est)

    Of the voting population:

    62,979,636 voted for Trump.(46.1%)
73,648,823 voted against Trump (48.2% for Clinton, 5.7% for others)

How many people attend Trump rallies?

  45. Roswell

In my humble opinion Trump relies on those rallies as they are the only thing left that work for him. As his ratings continue to slide, as he gets deeper into trouble, as the shit is about to really hit the fan … watch the rallies become more frequent.

There is a negative to it though: the violence they promote. Things are about to get ugly.

  46. Kaye Lee

“The Nazi Party relied on spectacle to impress German citizens and wow true believers. Beginning in 1933, once Adolf Hitler ruled the country, the annual rally in Nuremberg became a shining example of the power of German propaganda. Each year, the rallies grew larger and more impressive, and Hitler’s speeches became progressively more sinister.

The 1937 rally, called the “Rally of Labor,” recognized the reduction of unemployment in Germany after the Nazi rise to power. It had fallen from 6 million at its peak to 1 million. Hitler did this by emphasizing manual labor, restricting companies from using labor-saving machinery, and keeping wages low.”

BUILD THE WALL – line on the left, one brick each

  47. Roswell

I read somewhere that things got fairly ugly in Germany too, Kaye.

I’m not drawing a comparison between Trump and Hitler, by the way. There is none.

  48. nurses1968

    Kaye Lee
“How many people attend Trump rallies?”
quite a lot going by what is seen on The Circus from rallies last week
It is a bit much to try to somehow link population to rally attendance as an approval/disapproval of something.
A decent size rally shows people are committed to their cause
Using your methodology what numbers need to turn up to March in March next weekend to be deemed a success?

  49. Matters Not

Warwick at 1:28 pm raises an interesting point re contributors and how they might be ‘considered’ and then ‘treated’. Denise Drysdale made four ‘contributions’:

    First:

Please give Donald a go. He has only been in Government for a very short time .

Then: I think he’s great. So there!

Followed by: Your just jealous Terry!

And finally by: Gee that really hurt guest !

While Denise wasn’t offensive, at best she was vacuous – empty of argument or debate. Not that there’s anything wrong with that but as to why she posts is puzzling. Wants to get her name in print? Wants to be noticed?

Me – I come here to ‘buy a fight’, intellectually speaking. To test ideas, arguments, points of view and the like. And in so doing, I hope to learn something along the way. In short, I don’t want to be a Denise. A fully functioning Democracy demands more than that.

  50. Kaye Lee

I understand and agree with your points nurses, but these rallies are like the polls that we see spouted in all the papers – they are based on a miniscule proportion of voters who were motivated enough to answer the survey.

March in March is a unique event in that it is an invitation to ordinary unaligned Australians to come together to air their grievances whatever they may be. There is no specific interest group directing the protest which has drawn criticism from commentators but relief and praise from the ordinary citizens who take part. I think we all recognise that it is individual venting in a collective way but how different is that to Trump rallies where everyone has the same sign and they chant stuff like they are the kids in Lord of the Flies.

March in March is for a community to allow its citizens to say “Yanno what really pisses me off….”

  51. nurses1968

    Kaye Lee.
I never really thought about trying to justify rally numbers with population as I was always of the belief that if people were committed enough on issues they would take action
Given your population/rally size association I googled “Trump rally sizes” and found this.

no idea about the site, its [political affiliations etc although I assume it is a Trump based site but figures and graphics are there

FACT CHECK : Trump vs Clinton “Battle of The Rallies” – Here’s the SHOCKING Attendance Numbers
    From Gateway Pundit:

Through August 25th, Trump has held 29 campaign events in August with an estimated 168,000 participants. Clinton on the other hand has held only 11 campaign events attended by an estimated paltry 10,000.

Trump averages 5,800 people per event in August while Clinton averages less than 1,000.

Overall, month to date, Trump held nearly 3 times the number of events than that of Hillary Clinton and 16 times the number of participants. Clinton held 5 of her 11 events in high school gyms which in many cases were half empty while Trump held his events in arenas and other large facilities with at least 7 of his events (Columbus, Harrisburg, Ashburn, Wilmington, Abingdon, West Bend, and Akron) having reported overflow crowds

  52. Matters Not

on a quick check it seems it is a Trump site

Why did you have to check? Surely the numbers advanced would have been enough to …

  53. Kaye Lee

Is there a lucky door prize? A free round of golf? Dinner at the Florida White House with the other paying guests (who are paying double since Trump got elected) to watch foreign affairs dealt with live and unhinged?

“Why did you have to check? Surely the numbers advanced would have been enough to …”

    Well… No
I decided, rather than just suppose as you had, to check local newspapers for the corresponding day to see if figures were exaggerated or downplayed.
It seems the graph of attendances in the truthfeed link was exactly what separate sources were quoting

And the point of these comments was?

[I’m not drawing a comparison between Trump and Hitler, by the way. There is none]

i find there is a lot of things that are similar. It is more that times have changed and there are more checks and people that will protect from the excesses, so the outcome one hopes will not be the same.

Of course if Trump sets back renewables by years, or inflates the Clash of Civilisations too much, that could result in many deaths over the long term.

  59. Roswell

“And the point of these comments was?”

You were saying that Trump gets more people at his rallies.

    Roswell
I made a comment regarding the TV series”The Circus”

“a new series of The Circus…” and included my observation from viewing
“Trump still is drawing massive numbers at his rallies though”

I was then given a lesson on population
“of the United States of America is 325,816,150 (today’s est)”

    and the question
“How many people attend Trump rallies?”

then another eduction on Nazi rallies

““The Nazi Party …The 1937 rally, called the “Rally of Labor,”

So I decided to look up “”How many people attend Trump rallies?”

    and came up with http://truthfeed.com/fact-check-trump-vs-clinton-battle-of-the-rallies-heres-the-shocking-attendance-numbers/19536/

which I was unsure of as a site

and got the following 2 replies
“Why did you have to check? Surely the numbers advanced would have been enough to …

Is there a lucky door prize? A free round of golf? Dinner at the Florida White House with the other paying guests”

Well, I did a quick check and it seems that even if truthfeed is a Trump supporting site according to local Media in town where rallies were held the graph/chart on rally attendances was pretty accurate truthfeed being a Trump site or not

    then came your vague comments

Not bad for just mentioning a TV show and an observation

I did learn one thing though
    One comment
“Why did you have to check? Surely the numbers advanced would have been enough to …”

No,,,it seems not all Trump biased sites print bullshit and it has alerted me to be aware of that and not just jump to conclusions

    as I said earlier,not bad,all from a comment on a TV show

Nurses, I wasn’t questioning you, doubting you, or disputing you.

I simply remember reading that he’d been caught out paying people to attend his rallies. After some googling I discovered that I had read correctly, however even though the article was recent, it was about an event in 2015.

    My vague comment. FFS.

And if you think Kaye was having a go at you then you perhaps need to spend more time reading people’s comments instead of jumping to conclusions.

Nobody is here is deliberately trying to make your own presence here uncomfortable. Nobody.

    Speaking of Trump….

    2 Timothy 3:1-5
3 But know this, that in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here. 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, haughty, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal, 3 having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness, 4 betrayers, headstrong, puffed up with pride, lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God, 5 having an appearance of godliness but proving false to its power; and from these turn away.

The pressure to remain on message with Trump must be unrelenting. All around him plus the infatuated acolytes will be constantly wanting more “genuine” news about how great he is. They are constantly commenting on the quality of his clothes as Trump steadily disrobes to reveal what lies beneath. And perhaps what lies ARE beneath. I find the most revealing activity is the constant blurting out to other leaders the truly stupid minutiae about numbers at a rally or the latest conspiracy theory. He surely has no idea how petulant and self-serving this looks. What a needy character he is. All sycophants please apply. Endless supply needed.

A couple of weeks ago Trump said :

‘We will immediately repeal and replace ObamaCare – and nobody can do that like me. We will save $’s and have much better healthcare!’

Then reality hit home and like most conservatives who hate universal healthcare he realized he couldn’t do it without harming at least 24 million Americans .

This emperor definitely has no clothes !

  65. Michael Taylor

Roswell, that is big news, and a big blow to Trump.

Interesting take from the Boston Globe:

with Republicans in control of both houses of Congress and the White House — and fanatically committed to repeal — Obamacare again has withstood the onslaught. … There’s an important lesson here: it’s awfully hard to take away government benefits from people once they’ve received them. For all of the GOP’s talk about hatred of big government, the continued, unlikely survival of Obamacare is a tribute to the American people’s love of government entitlements.

For Republicans, repealing Obamacare has always been a talking point and not much else. With little expectation that they would have the legislative opportunity to overturn the law, the GOP railed against the bill as if it was the devil itself. They repeatedly lied to their supporters about the bill. They claimed that it cost people care when it hadn’t. They said it increased health care costs when it didn’t. And they repeatedly said that repealing it would make American health care better, when it wouldn’t.

… Moving from an opposition party to a governing party comes with growing pains, and, well, we’re feeling those growing pains today,’’ Ryan told reporters late Friday afternoon. “This is a disappointing day for us. Doing big things is hard.’’

Yes it was the GOP railed against the bill as if it was the devil itself. Technically, it was Paul Ryan who decided to ‘pause’. He can count and the numbers weren’t there. The Democrats were rock solid. Trump will now move on to ‘tax reform’, hoping that he won’t be trumped there as well.

Further to the GOP decision not to repeal Obamacare at the moment at least. Robert Gottliebsen’s take:

The Trump saga rolls on. The Americans got themselves set for higher US rates, a high American dollar, higher share prices etc. But the legislation requiring the lower taxes and other assorted measures requires first the abolition of Obamacare. This is not easy to do because the Republicans came to office in the very states that are among the major beneficiaries of Obamacare.

Many US voters didn’t know what Donald Trump was talking about when he promised to abolish Obamacare. They didn’t know medical benefits by that name. But they are starting to understand, and that is starting to make a lot of Republicans very nervous.

While I have difficulty with Gottliebsen, there is no doubt that attempts to muck around with health care face strong opposition in both Australia and the America. In Australia, the LNP approach has been ‘death via financial strangulation’ but the reality is that the punters are in revolt. Watch for the coming Budget to see an increase in health funding. Health funding is a vote changer.

What is your aim here nurses? You seem like a very angry person who has paid $10 for an argument and is insisting on having it.

Instead of continually prodding and taking pot shots, perhaps you could make some suggestions on how things could be improved.

They have had 8 years to formulate a health policy. Typical conservatives. They believe that just being in power resolves everything.

No I was just trying to work out your response to my comment about a TV series
    just a reminder,
    I just tried your logic,
    remember?

    nurses1968March 23, 2017 at 8:57 pm

Trump is generating so much interest they are running a new series of The Circus
“THE CIRCUS. This documentary series pulls back the curtain on the 2016 presidential race and the Trump administration, revealing the intense, inspiring and infuriating stories behind the headlines.”
With the stuff ups they couldn’t let it end at the election.
Trump still is drawing massive numbers at his rallies though

    Kaye LeeMarch 23, 2017 at 9:55 pm

population of the United States of America is 325,816,150 (today’s est)

    Of the voting population:

    62,979,636 voted for Trump.(46.1%)
73,648,823 voted against Trump (48.2% for Clinton, 5.7% for others)

How many people attend Trump rallies?

  72. Roswell

Nurses, I’m still trying to work out your response to my comment.

  73. Kaye Lee

My comment had nothing to do with Trump rallies, the attendance at which I would assume would be very different depending on location. It also had nothing to do with any tv show or comment about same. It was just a statement of fact. It shows two things to me – not many people voted (less than 60%) and, of those who did, the majority didn’t vote for Trump. About 27.5% of eligible voters voted for Trump and I doubt his support has headed in a positive direction from there.

  74. Roswell

John, they had no intention of formulating a health policy. They were only focusing on destroying one.

  75. Terry2

On the pulling of the ‘Obamacare’ repeal Bill.

Trump is now blaming the Democrats : he is a Republican President, the Congress now has Republican majorities in both Houses.

If it was Australia the conservatives would blame Gillian Triggs.
