    We are a front, a skirmisher sacrifice, a frontline pillbox, a huge target, expendable. In an all out W W 3, in which China will certainly be covered by Russia who foresees USA stupidity and pushiness as potentailly and decisively fatal, we will be an early, vulnerable, large, unmissable target. No-one here might foresee this in that way. Dutton now advocates a Trumpy policy shift to fakery, fantasy, forelocktugging and fellatio. The USA is “dying ugly” from now on, insincere, untrustworthy, bullyish, soulrotten and heartless, selfdeceiving, vanity suicidal in social and political matters. Rich, ruthless, greedy USA types rob all the others anyway, so they’ll outsource and offshore misery and doom on to us without a thought or worry. Can we revise, retreat, rearrange, reassess? No?

    We make the choices, as do all others. Is it possible to not have alliances? Notions of ‘sovereignty’ is simply modern (probably troublesome lawyer-speak) spin to give the impression of independence whilst the inevitability of alliances is pursued.

    Musing earlier today, wondering what would it take for a responsible, properly focused federal government to critically assess the prospects for the future of this country and act accordingly; kick out all American security assets, shut down Pine Gap, remove Yankee military and hardware from places like Tindal, renege on the cyclic war games played out at Shoalwater Bay north of Rockhampton, shut down the Holt. Naval Communication Station at Exmouth in WA. Cancel AUKUS. Legislate for no future American military or security relationships with this country.

    And commit to a future economic and social partnership with China.

    The Yankee marauders will squeal and rage, for sure, but it would, I think, be a series of actions enjoying massive support from the people of this country and likely ensure the government will remain in power for an extended period, as a reward for their courage and behaviour.

    Any sensible person would have to agree with you Phil that there’s no doubt of our being a target, thanks in the main for allowing ourselves to become a launch-pad for the US military into Asia and the Pacific. If (and it’s a very big if) there was to be a war with China – whether or not due to incoming US or other aircraft departing from Australia, then it’s a certainty that two or more places in WA and the NT would receive visits from hypersonic Chinese missiles – they wouldn’t need to be nuclear tipped, but they just might be. As for the rest Phil, agreed, and agreed that a reassessment is unlikely.

    BTW, its sobering to reflect that just over 10 years ago the late Malcolm Fraser called “..for an end to the Australian-US alliance”, saying (in part)
    “The taskforce in Darwin, when fully equipped, it will be an immensely powerful taskforce capable of exercising force anywhere in the Pacific, and if the US wants to use that force they’re not going to ask first; we’ll read about it in the newspapers.”

    Yes C, there’s a heap of spin involved, largely to confuse the public, all of which spin is an excellent cover for Australia preparing to spend billions to support the US and UK armaments industries. Oh, and to help things along, Australia’s Security/Military/Intel operatives have long spun the view that ANZUS commits the US to the defence of Australia. It doesn’t. Unlike the NATO treaty, ANZUS commits the US to have a think about coming to our defence, and doing so if it feels so inclined, but not otherwise.
