Has anyone heard from our Minister for Women or is she too busy protecting the workers?

The past week has seen the exposure of the disrespect for women that is prevalent in Coalition ranks.

The actions of Briggs and Dutton have been excused by Matthias Cormann, Ewan Jones, Barnaby Joyce and others who have shown their support for good blokes having a tough day. Barnaby doesn’t want us getting all PC about this.  And he wants to be our Deputy Prime Minister?

During all this time, we have heard nothing from our Minister for Women, nothing from the Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party.

Oh that’s right – they aren’t feminists.

In an interview in Harper’s Bazaar Julie Bishop reiterated she is not a feminist and told women they should “stop whingeing and just get on with it.”

“Please do not let it get to you and do not become a victim, because it’s only a downward spiral once you’ve cast yourself as a victim,” Bishop told the fashion magazine.

Michaelia Cash told the Press Club “In terms of feminism, I’ve never been someone who really associates with that movement. That movement was a set of ideologies from many, many decades ago now.”

“I consider myself a very lucky person whose parents told their four children to achieve, you work hard… All I know is that I believe in women … but I also believe in men.”

Senator Sue Boyce, in her valedictory speech, commented on Julia Gillard’s misogyny speech, describing it as powerful.

”I think it would have been more accurate if she had called him a sexist,” she said. ”But singling [Mr Abbott] out as a sexist was not reasonable either,” she added, saying the Prime Minister was one of many ”subtle” sexists in federal Parliament.

The only Liberal woman I have heard speak out about the obvious sexism being displayed by her colleagues is Sharman Stone.

“The interesting activities of the past number of weeks demonstrate that some of our male colleagues still don’t get it in terms of treating all women with respect,” she told the ABC.

“I think the most important fact is that it [the photo] was leaked, that someone didn’t see it as important to keep the woman’s identity strictly private. It is just an example of how we’ve still got a way to go in all parties.”

We have watched an advertising campaign on domestic violence telling us to speak up. To tell others when their behaviour is not ok.

We are waiting Julie and Michaelia…
