A New Year Open Letter to Tony Abbott

Happy belated New Year everyone!

While Tony Abbott was in France over the Christmas break, he sent out his pre-recorded Christmas and New Years messages to the plebs back home.

With the help of my family, including @CatRollison, @KayRollison, Rick Fielding and two of my favourite Tweeps, @GalacticWomenAu and @ForthLeft, and with the extraordinary production skills of @WineTosser, we recorded my latest letter to Tony Abbott during the Christmas break:

Wound Up stars and is produced by Scott Clarke and is published on Independent Australia. Look out for the next episode!

Its more like an extended bucks party than a government.

They are just trashing everything, in a studied and stylized way that doesn’t look too much like abject violence.

"There once was a time in history when the limitation of governmental power meant increasing liberty for the people. In the present day the limitation of governmental power, of governmental action, means the enslavement of the people by the great corporations, who can only be held in check through the extension of governmental power. [Theodore Roosevelt, Address at the Coliseum, San Francisco, Sept. 14, 1912]

So how does Australian society fare if any extension of governmental power under an Abbott Government is primarily established to further the interests of corporations both great and small?

“Enough sitting on our arses, it is time to get-up, get angry and start changing things before it’s too late.”

The problem I find, there is so much to address. We get new things to be in uproar about every day.

Is that their intent. To shower us with so much, that we become confused, or just focus on one or two things, allowing the rest to sneak through, with no attention.

Yesterday it was education, today healt, what will tomorrow bring. Oh, yes, we will pay if the government helps us while travelling overseas.

Yes, each day is something new,

I believe this is their agenda. They aim to prevent us focussing on any one injustice they are proposing.

To us the public, we feel they are chaotic.

To them, they are proceeding as they planned to do, in an ordered, methodical,…….. Working their way through their list.

What they have forgotten, they still have to get thgeleglisation through parliament, and bring the population on side.

I signed a petition to the gov gen to sack Abbott. Just wondering what happened to it. Did it get sent or delivered? Happy to sign more !!!

Maria (@hateabbott): While signing a petition for the GG to remove Our Tony may give an outlet to express your anger, the realpolitick of the situation is that is has absolutely no chance of success. The NLP has a sizeable majority in the lower House and while at the moment they’re being thwarted in pushing through their ‘reforms’ by the Senate although this may change following the High Court ruling due this month on whether or not WA has to return to the polls.
Without being too long winded, the NLP at present do not face the same situation as the Whitlam govt. did in 1975 (I continue to maintain my rage!!).
If the NLP continue to face difficulty in their efforts to push through their neo-lib agenda, then they and their allies in the MSM will wind up the ‘obstructionist’ line and push it loud and long – Around early April, would be my estimate, perhaps earlier, again depending on the High Court ruling.
The suggestion of a petition by Drew Ford to the ALP to get off their backsides and go on the attack would seem a much more practical solution.

Note to the ALP; Get off your arses, stop reflecting neo-lib lite policies which have effectively ham-strung you for nearly two decades and get your head around Neo-Keynesian fiscal policy, or as sure as the sun rises you are destined for the dust bin of history!
Get some spine, grow some teeth, and get into it!!!

  26. John Beaumont

The AIMN subtitles its headline “The Information Alternative”.

Of course this is rubbish, it is an opinion alternative as there’s no objective reporting (information) to be seen.

I am also amused by Mr Clarke’s response to Abbott’s “report card” after 100 days in office.
Clarke says “It’s hard to imagine another world leader awarding themselves a gold star after 100 days in office..” but the loopy left are quite happy to judge the Abbott government a total and utter failure after 100 days in office, in fact I am sure I read “worst government evahhh..” comments before Parliament had even sat following the election which threw the ALP out of office so unceremoniously !!

Then we have idiots* like Graeme Rust “abbott the idiot is a religious fanatic , he’ll do what pell tells him”

And there’s the disgusting complete idiot*, Ron, who seems to be calling for a revolution or undemocratic overthrow of the government,
ron power says “…it is about time the people of Australia stand up against these disgusting lying Liberal party and demand the governor general removed them from office before they do anymore stupid damage to Australia’s reputation world wide we have become a joke lead by complete idiots.”

(* these are the adjectives used by these people against a democratically elected government. A government with a greater mandate than the KRudd government of 2007 and the Gillard minority government).

Look, you lot are entitled to be critical and upset that your fellow Australians were sick of the dysfunctional infighting of a morally corrupt Labor rabble and so tossed them out of parliament.

You’re entitled to hold the government to account.

What you’re not entitled to do is pretend that YOUR opinion is of any greater value than anyone else’s or that YOU hold the moral high ground, because judging by some of the comments here you’re just petty dictators except without any backbone.

  27. Fed up

“What you’re not entitled to do is pretend that YOUR opinion is of any greater value than anyone else’s or that YOU hold the moral high ground, because judging by some of the comments here you’re just petty dictators except without any backbone.”

John you do not believe in free speech? The government seems to be, if one has the right to say anything.

After all, I believe readers are capable of making up their own minds about what is written.

  28. Fed up

John, we are entitled to say what we like about this or any other government.

Saying that, I have seen little here, that cannot be proven with facts. Indeed most is just repeating what the government has said or did.

Yes, using their words and actions.

  29. Kaye Lee

“The AIMN subtitles its headline “The Information Alternative”.

    Of course this is rubbish”

Is that your objective opinion John?

  30. Dan Rowden

    John,

I agree that AIMN is essentially an opinion alternative, but it is wrong to suggest that it doesn’t meet the description of “information alternative” as well. Many of the contributing authors and commentators provide links to articles and information that would not otherwise be seen by anyone other than dedicated (read obsessive) political sleuths. In that sense AIMN can rightly refer to itself as an information alternative.

You are also correct in observing that sometimes hyperbole and overwrought rhetoric sometimes creeps into people’s statements. This, however, is a human failing and not one that is the sole domain of the Left. If you visit any right-of-centre political blog you’ll find exactly the same thing, if not worse.

    Edward,

Agreed. Calling for the GG to sack the Abbott Government is really doing nothing more than announcing one has no idea how politics and Government work. There is zero basis for such a call to be made. A petition may have some measure of symbolic force, but in practical terms it’s just plain silly.

  31. cornlegend

What a deadly duo, Victoria Rollinson and Scott Clarke.
May many more collaborations take place

  32. Kaye Lee

John I find it somewhat hypocritical that you are berating other commenters for expressing their opinions whilst using terms like “loopy left” and “Labor rabble” and “petty dictators”. Surely you are doing just what you are telling others not to.

I am one of those “obsessive” people Dan alluded to. I try to stick to facts in my articles but I express my opinion sometimes, usually more likely in the comments section, which I feel is quite appropriate.

I wonder how many articles from here you have read. They vary greatly in style and content. Some may interest you, others may not. Personally, I have learned a great deal from reading them and from the further research they have prompted me to do.

I don’t like gossip or personal abuse or witch hunts or physical lampooning either but you have to admit, the last 6 years have been full of that – Tone set the tone.

  33. Kaye Lee

  34. Fed up

    Thanks Kaye.

  35. Kaye Lee

Ok now this is pretty funny.

“It’s hard to imagine another world leader awarding themselves a gold star after 100 days in office..”

Actually Kevin Rudd brought out a glossy 55 page brochure after his first 100 days so I thought I would look it up.

Google led me to a story called Kevin Rudd’s first 100 days on the following site

    http://www.smartcompany.com.au/leadership/4857-.html#

The really funny part comes when you click on the link to read Kevin’s 55 page book. I am so laughing, but I won’t spoil the surprise. Look for yourself.

  36. Scott Clarke (@Winetosser)

    John Beaumont

This video represents our opinions only. We are not inciting a revolution. Your comment represents your opinion. We are both entitled to it.

    The End.

  37. Scott Clarke (@Winetosser)

Ron, I don’t think John really meant to call you a disgusting complete idiot. I think what he meant to say was that he doesn’t agree with your comments but realizes that they are your opinion to which you are entitled. Ron does seem to think that his opinion is worth more than ours though possibly due to a sense of entitlement. Sensible people would see that is his clumsy way of expressing himself. For the record; I respect people who are true to their convictions but I do not respect those that try to restrict how others express themselves.

  38. Scott Clarke (@Winetosser)

Sorry Ron, that should have read, “John does seem to think that his opinion is worth more than ours though possibly due to a sense of entitlement.” I got my Johns and Rons mixed up. My sincere apologies.

  39. Scott Clarke (@Winetosser)

    Dan Rowden

I put my hand up right away and admit I do not claim to be an information alternative. I’m just a fellow with an opinion, a camera and a virtual set who is frustrated by the incredible bias we have seen in the mainstream media. I no longer, read, listen or watch it as their power rests in my hands. I figure I might as well enjoy myself instead.

  40. Kaye Lee

Great video Scott. Thanks to you all. I enjoyed it. The only trouble is I keep thinking of more songs.

  41. John Fraser

    <

    @John Beaumont

I don't pretend my "opinion" is of "greater value" than yours.

But you pretend that your "opinion" has some value.

Humbly suggest you get of the pot.

    All your doing is farting.
