Why The Left Have the Abbott Government All Wrong!

“Look, it’s a personal matter, it’s a private matter and I don’t propose to comment on something which is almost certainly coming before the courts, I just make the general point that when people have personal issues, they should be given all the support and all the encouragement that they possibly can to work through those issues.”

Tony Abbott

Tony Abbott was commenting on the airport behaviour of Stephen John Ellis, a member of Malcolm Turnbull’s staff. Or at least he was, until he resigned after he was charged on Thursday with committing an act of indecency and indecent exposure, as well as drug charges.

And you thought those Liberal staffers were always covering things up!

…Mm, maybe that’s why he felt that he needed to resign.

A lot of my left wing acquaintences – I wouldn’t call them friends, because I know from reading Andrew Bolt that the Left have no affection for anyone and are just abusive nasty types who call people names rather than argue things logically – seemed to think that this was inconsistent with Tony Abbott’s position on Craig Thomson or Peter Slipper.

Of course, the Left are always looking for ways to suggest that this government is somehow hypocritical. After the Budget, we had all those media trotskyites ignoring the fact that Labor created the deficit by not predicting and preventing the GFC and their only response was to spend, spend, spend. While Australia avoided a recession, we went into to debt, and the Liberals were elected to fix that. The media seem to be taking the Abbott Government to task for seemingly forgetting about the debt and presenting an even bigger deficit than Labor. But this overlooks the fact that the Liberals have a plan to reduce the deficit by urging us to spend, spend, spend which means that it’ll be us that are in debt and that’s no problem for the government, because it’s nothing to do with them.

And to encourage people to spend, they’ve given some well placed tax relief to small business.

Some people are inaccurately suggesting that this will be used as a “rort”. What they don’t understand that small business will only use this for legitimate reasons and that the people rorting the system are those mothers who were “double-dipping” by claiming maternity leave from both their employer and the government. It’s important to absolutely clear, though, that while these mothers have committed what Joe Hockey agreed was basically fraud, and Scott Morrison described as “a rort”, they aren’t fraudsters or rorters. In much the same way that many of Mr Howard’s ministers gave misleading statements onthings like “children overboard” or the AWB scandals, that doesn’t make them liars. It just meant that they had no idea what was going on most of the time. Which doesn’t make them incompetent. To paraphrase Barnaby Joyce on Abbott’s mistakes, it just makes them more loveable because they’re authentic and therefore human and we all make mistakes, so let’s move on, hey?

No, just because I say that someone has committed a theft, then it doesn’t mean that I’m calling them a thief. And we know that these women can’t be rorters or fraudsters because the wives of two Liberal ministers did some “double-dipping” and surely they wouldn’t have done anything wrong because, like Caesar’s wife, the wives of Liberal Ministers need to be above suspicion. As for the husbands, well, that’s a whole other issue…

So there’s nothing inconsistent with their position on this, just as there’s nothing inconsistent on Tony Abbott’s refusal to comment on a matter “before the courts”. When the Thomson matter was being investigated and about to come before the courts he merely suggested that Thomson’s vote in Parliament was “tainted” and accused Julia Gillard of running a “protection racket” for Thomson. Comments which some tried to link to the matters before the court, but Abbott may have simply meant that Thomson’s vote was tainted because Kathy Jackson said so, or because he spells his name with a “p” in some of the credit card signatures that were presented in evidence against him. Surely, Abbott is entitled to the presumption of innocence here, as nobody knows what he was thinking at the time.

Once I had pointed all this out my left wing “friends” attempted to change the subject by quoting Malcolm Turnbull:

“The acid today is on Bill Shorten. He has been promising a better budget outcome, lower taxes and more spending. You can’t have all three.”

They then attempted to suggest that this is precisely what Abbott promised going into the 2013 election. This was easy to disprove.

“No,” I calmly told them, “Abbott promised a surplus, lower taxes and no cuts to spending. That’s completely different from more spending.”

“But where’s the surplus?” they asked, annoyed when I scoffed and asked who was being hypocritical now.

“You can’t deny that Abbott’s broken his promises,” they insisted.

“Not the overriding one that matters.”

“Getting the Budget back to surplus? Even if you try and argue that means that none of the other promises count, he’s got a deficit twice the size of Labor’s.”

“No, not that one. His promise to the Liberal Party that he’d do whatever it took to win the election. That’s the one that counts and you’d only have to ask Peta Credlin to see what he’s prepared to do to keep that one.”

Whenever he spoke I felt quite sick
Did he think I was stupid?
Did he think I was thick?
He made false promises, told so many lies
kept making excuses and he’d blame other guys

So I stopped listening, over it all
The lies, the excuses, hypocrisy and gall

Then he started pleading, said he’d changed
I saw no difference, he must be deranged
Yet all of his mates were still right by his side
But they can’t be trusted, all of them lied

So whenever he spoke, I just turned off
I knew he’d be lying, enough is enough

He became more deluded like Monty’s black knight
kept changing the story saying black now is white
When called to account he’d build lie upon lie
with a wink and a smirk and a bogus blue tie

So I moved on, tired of the lies
    eagerly awaiting his certain demise

He says now he’s turned over a new leaf
No apology for all the pain and the grief
He wants forgiveness but no mention of fault
It’s just a fig leaf for continued assault

Nothing has changed, just different deceit
I’ll just bide my time till his demise is complete

His demise can’t come soon enough.

You seem to know diddly squat about the Left, they are the conscience within the ALP.

Interesting that today’s Weekend Australian finds that we are the leaders when it comes to border protection and that Abbott is at the “cutting edge” when it comes to turning back boats.

No doubt the authorities in Malaysia, Myanmar and Indonesia have been comforting themselves, as they push boatloads of asylum seekers out to sea, that this is the Australian exemplar that will become the international norm thanks to the leadership of our Prime Minister.

Fortunately the Europeans have so far ignored Abbott’s offer to show them how to introduce callous brutality and indifference to their border security strategies.

    Damn straight, Rossleigh

The Right are, well, always right – it is a law of nature (and god). Even if the Left behave exactly the same way – then the Left is wrong, because it is always wrong.

Like interest rates; if interest rates are lower while the Left is, cough, splutter, in power – then that is the greatest evil. Of course if low interest rates occur during the right and proper reign of the Right – break out the champers, well done, award yourselves a gold plated elephant stamp, oh, righteous ones.

The Left simply do not do reality very well at all.

  6. Anomander

@townsvilleblog – The ALP aren’t part of the Left any more. They are creeping further and further to the right to be almost indistinguishable from the Libs.

  7. Rossleigh

No, Anomander, townvilleblog wasn’t suggesting that the ALP was part of the Left – he was suggesting that the Left of the ALP was its conscience…
Sort of like Jiminy Cricket, just before Pinochio starts smoking and ends up being sent to that island…
No, not Nauru or Manus… Some Disney watcher will be able to tell me the name of the island where boys turned into donkeys and….
    Oh, that’s right…
    Canberra!
    Or was it “Pleasure Island”

More like its Gilligans Island a show of comical errors by really bad actors/LNP soon to end though because the ratings/polls have hit rock bottom because its ran its course, nothing lasts forever oh except the reruns 30 years later 🙂

  9. Kaye Lee

Do you realise that the Australian National Anthem can be sung to the tune of Gilligan’s island. Try it, it works.

  10. DanDark

Lol noooo I didn’t realize, but now you have enlightened me, I will just have to go have a listen
At least we don’t sing God save the queen anymore, oh hold on I just saw Breaking news,
Tones the man of the hour or of the 50s has just announced the regression back to that anthem
like he is regressing everything and everybody else in this lovely country,,, 🙂
PS so the national anthem was plagerised or what ever the bloody word is from a yankeeee sitcom….tooo funny LOL

As of today…. Abbot leads Shorten as preferred PM at 44-39….. How inefficient and incompetent do you have to be, to score second behind that clueless, shameless, blundering oaf?

Which poll are you talking about?

I note that the IPSOS poll has the two party preferred at 50-50 but Newspoll has Labor leading 53 to 47.

Usually the ABC highlights Newspoll but I suspect tomorrow the emphasis will be on IPSOS.

    Talk about shallowness.

Most polling in 21st Century media is aimed at influencing public opinion, not reflecting it.

It’s not just that “journalists” are innumerate, intellectually lazy, professionally compromised or constrained (although there is that) -or that polling outfits tailor results to what they think their paying clients want to hear (although there is that) or that accurate, objective research is difficult and expensive (though there is that, too). It’s more like people (in particular: “opinion leaders”) get hold of a narrative- and, even when actual results start comming in, are loathe to let go of it.

    Impressive, isn’t it?

The perfidy bubble and media cover for dishonesty & hypocrisy has extened so far as allow right wing ideologues (and other dishonest, self-interested or sociopathic sorts) the leeway to think that they can plausibly deny what’s recorded right there- for everyone to see for themselves, on video.

This is not a new phenomenon, btw:

Yet it is coming to the end of its useful life.

“…because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously…”

Light reading Mars08: Labor seem to be a rather masochistic bunch at the moment.

  17. DanDark

Jexpat, I have seen and been at the end of violence, its something I avoid these days but I watched a tid bit of your video
I myself have been at the end of police intimidation and threats and bullying recently, and the Seargant old Rosemary who is in semi retirement because our cop shop is only open on weekdays after 12pm, no shift work, they work on Sunday that’s the day they go out and harass the locals, and my crime was I made 2 phone calls and left a voicemail on my daughters teachers phone to tell her I was going to the cops because she was a pedophile that had been exposed…
well geeezuz lordy mother mary anyone would think I had friggin killed some bastard the way the two bitch cops carried on when they rocked up at my place late on a Sunday arvo, I put a formal complaint in to the commissioner and now they have backed off because it was bullshit how they threatened to come get me if I didn’t go down to the cop shop the next Thursday in front of my 9 yr old daughter, it was appalling their behavior and Rosemary just had to believe me in the end because I have cleaned her cop shop and many others over the years, so if I was a liar etc I wouldn’t be a cleaner for cop shops, you almost have to pass asio to clean in the joints…so yeah old Rosemary tried to back her lying little bitch coppers but realized if she did she was going down too after I said go speak to the Superintendant at Sale and get a reference off him about me he is my friend LOL oh shit it backfired so bad on them they have screwed the whole case up and it wont even go to court now because 2 bitch cops couldn’t help but be smartarse bullies….
Ps they didn’t even go through with their threat, and I didn’t go to the cop shop, they turned up the next friggin Sunday and told me to come down on Tuesday when they had time, I went down Monday morning and surprised them bitches LOL

  18. Jexpat

    DD:

    Sorry to hear about that.

I posted the Rodney King thing to shpw that even with video, people (in this case a jury) sometimes won’t believe their own eyes, but will instead follow their own pre-conceived fears, inclinations and prejudices. Sometimes with disastrous results.

  19. diannaart

    @DanDark

There’s nothing worse than feeling so completely and utterly powerless. What a terrible time for you and your daughter – when you cannot trust anyone…. I do hope that your daughter is doing well and that cow of a teacher..?

  20. DanDark

Thanks Diannart and Jexpat its cool, the truth will always prevail even if its not in the courts of Law.
yep there is nothing worse than being a 52 yr old 55kg mother of 6 kids who we are given to protect its part of being a mothers job, and ya have two thumping big arse cops threatening ya infront of your child, they wouldn’t tell my why I had to go to the cop shop, they kept putting there hand up when I spoke, I said I have rang Sale and they said to ring socts on Monday morning and speak to an expert on these matters, so I thought it was about my complaint, but she put a complaint in after I rang the cops,
she is also married to an ex cop who used to run the cop shop here for years, he just sits in the pub all day now while the teacher/principal wife works at a very small school of just 13 kids out in the sticks, she has got away with stuff for far to long because she is good damn good at lying and locking kids in an office and many more things that she told my daughter not to tell me,
she rang me and was suggesting my daughter was going into puberty, I was shocked actually that she said that, I said back um she is only 9 Helen, we have a few years yet, but in all the years I have dealt with teachers with 6 kids not ever once have I had a convo about my kids puberty because its not their feckin business and she had just turned 9,
but she will get away with it because I am too old to fight the bitch, been there and done that 20 years ago, and the pedophile wins because you have 2 young fat arse cops being bitches intimidating victims, this all started a month ago but no formal charges for using a communication device to harass YET 🙂
geeeezuz she was harassing me and my daughter but that’s cool hey…. and they all need a fitness test these cops we have now,,,
you should see the shit they eat, 3 large bins a day emptied because they are full of mcdonalds, KFC, subways, pizza boxes, coke cans, they keep those fast food stores in business, healthy food equals a healthy reasoning thinking brain…..
